There's a lot to like about this league. The sim and index are very detailed and a great engine to run a league off of. If there's anything I would like to see changed, it's on the site.

There have been times where I've been looking for award winners, pro bowl rosters, things like that, and I find myself searching for a long time and not able to find that information. I think a dedicated awards section with pro bowls and trophies all in there would be great. You could also add in a champions section and have the Ultimus winners posted in there and the roster. It's similar to the awards section in the SHL. That's one thing that stood out to me, trying to look back to find winners.

Another thing I would like to see is more activity on the forums. Now, I don't really know how you achieve that to be honest. We have a media section and there a some quality pieces that get posted, but in all honestly, if you're done your PTs for the week, there isn't much reason to go on the site. I actually think one factor to that is because the sim engine is on it's own. There's no index thread where people can discuss the season, it's just click to go to the index, read the results and go to discord. It's not a huge deal, but it's something that I miss sometimes, having those encounters with people on the forums.

As I said on my podcast, if there’s one thing I really want the NSFL to get to changing, it’s the banking system. The SHL unveiled its automatic banking system that’s made a lot of tedious things like “posting in a transactions thread” go away. It really enhances the user’s experience and just really makes it feel more “modern” in a way. Besides eliminating each team’s transactions thread, its easier for bankers to approve/not approve requests. Not to mention that the best part is being able to click on “banking” and immediately see your “real time” bank account, and how much money you have in it. Or how much you don’t, for that matter. You don’t have to take the time to go to Excel sheet, wait for it to load, and then have to check and see if you got paid on certain things. It’s all right there for you in a quick and easy way to see it. The only thing im not sure of is that a banking system like this is even possible on jcink. I know NOTHING about coding for the most part, and I know that the SHL does have its own hosting site now, so perhaps something like that isn’t possible for us. But if it is? Get to work HO. PT Pass

As an Oakland, CA native, I am always on board to show some civic pride and keep my city in the forefront. So if I could change one thing about the league, it would probably be to place a team in Oakland. I am not picky on which team, but if we were to keep current mascots and team names in place, I would vote to relocate the Outlaws to the Town. The Oakland Outlaws has a great ring to it and it keeps in line with the bad boy projection of the city that was maintained by the Raiders. I would of course have to change the red and black to silver and black, but that isn't as much out of necessity as it is out of personal preference.

Now if an expansion team was placed into Oakland, I would have them carry the Invaders moniker from the old AAFL team. I would even go with making the colors mimic the first Raiders colors of black and gold instead of the Raiders more well known silver and black. I would have to do some real thinking about the mascot. I could go with a barbarian type mascot or try and stick close to the Raiders shield.

If I could change one thing about the league, it would be finding something to do with all the extra money that people can build up. Nickyvmlp has $120M, Oles has $150M, TC has $135M, and infinite has more than $200M! Basically, infinite could take a minimum contract, do no jobs, write no media, make no graphics, not do twitter or fantasy, yet still be a max earner for about an entire career. That is ridiculous. Although infinite is a stud and still does that kind of stuff to support the league, guys like that have no motivation to continue to contribute to the league with jobs and media if there is nothing they can spend their money on. So I propose adding something to the league that is very expensive, but that maxed out guys could spend their money on. One idea is to add a type of training and equipment that is very inefficient. Like we pay $1M a week for 5 TPE or $500K for 3 TPE, and $3M for 8 TPE equipment, and $1M for 4 TPE. What if we could pay $15M a week for 10 TPE, or add another layer of equipment that is like stupid expensive. Say you get elite equipment that is like $10M for 12TPE? It would reward those that have done work to earn all that money but it wouldn’t be a large enough group that could afford it that it would upset the integrity of the league. If we don’t want TPE to be a part of this at all, we could change it. Simmers and updaters currently get a PT pass. What if someone could pay for a seasonal pass. Like $30M a season for a pass? Or maybe we make it so you can make up a missed task through money. So if you forget to do a task by the deadline, you have a month to pay like $10M per task to get a pass for those missed tasks. One thing I know, is we want to continue to encourage more members to take jobs. Hopefully, making your money mean more would help to encourage people to take more jobs.

One of the advantages that the NSFL has over a real-life league like the NFL or CFL is that it can create franchises anywhere, without worrying about things like travel time, local population, or the team's ability to generate a profit. The league has already played into this: the real-life city of Yellowknife, according to Wikipedia, is "the largest community in the Northwest Territories, Canada," with approximately 20,000 residents. It is the last place any professional football league would consider putting a team, but the NSFL has the freedom to place teams wherever it wants, simply because it can. And while I understand that there are some users who would prefer to maintain some sense of "realism" when it comes to the league, I'd personally like to see the NSFL make full use of this freedom to create truly unique franchises.

Let's look at the most recent expansion. The two new teams ended up being placed in Chicago and Austin. While those are both great cities, there's nothing forcing the league to place teams in major cities in North America. Those teams could have been placed anywhere, and that allows for some really cool branding opportunities. What if the teams had been placed in, say, Scotland and Australia? This season could have seen the established franchises facing off against the Glasgow Unicorns and the Sydney Dingoes.

While I do appreciate the league's commitment to realism, I feel like that can greatly limit creativity and innovation when it comes to team branding. I think that if the opportunity arises for new teams to be created (whether through relocation of existing teams or another expansion), the league should look beyond the shores of the North American continent when considering location; it might be surprised by what it finds there.

I just want to start this off by saying that I'm not trying to call out any specific person(s) with this post. I'm just trying to bring attention to a serious issue that I've noticed in the few seasons that I've been here. The issue I want to talk about is the entire setup of the award voting system. My god, this is one screwed up system. I have no idea who came up with this, and I honestly don't really want to know, because that's not the point of this. First, there is literally no reason to allow GM's to vote on awards. This is one of the most biased things I've ever thing that was intentionally made to be this way. I've even been told by several GM's and players that they rarely even look at stats when voting. They just vote for a player on their own team, a recognizable name, or, the worst of all, just copy someone's votes. Also, the fact that players can't win more than one award is a terrible rule. It also is terribly enforced. If you have a rule like this, you have to actually enforce it every single season for every player, not just when you feel like it.

There is so much more wrong with the current system, but I'd also like to mention a few changes that could/should be made to help with the issue. My first suggestion would be to have HO appoint an actual voting committee. The committee should have no less than 10 players in it, and it should be a season-by-season appointed committee, that is payed a one-time sum for the season they're on the committee. People can apply to be on the committee as many times as they like, but they should not be allowed to freely keep the position as long as they like. These committee members would obviously be required to individually analyze stats, on their own time, and make their voting decisions completely anonymously, not shared with the rest of the voters, to avoid copying of voting ballots. It would also be up to HO whether or not they want to be included in the committee or not, so the amount of voters each season could change. This system obviously wouldn't remove all forms of bias when it comes to voting, but it definitely help minimize it. Even if you don't want to make a change this big, you could at least force GM's to actually look at stats for themselves and not have a shared ballot submission chat for all the voters, because all that does is encourage copying. If GM's just randomly submitted voting with no real thought behind their votes, they could possibly be penalized. This is just a suggestion, but I definitely think HO should consider going forward with the league.

PBE PT

If I could do anything to change the league it would be to have some sort of visual sim upgrade. This would be incredibly hard because it requires either a giant update to the current sim, or completely overhauling the league into a new sim which would take weeks to work out. But anything to get the ugly checkers with dots away would be worth in my opinion. One choice would be something like Madden 20 but again, it's a huge overhaul and a very expensive game for simmers to be purchasing. Either way, one of the biggest appeals to a sim league is how enjoyable it is to watch sims, and That's where PBE pretty much has everyone beat, part of what makes me enjoy PBE is that it actually looks like a baseball game, unlike a bunch of circle with numbers mentioned like earlier. I think this would be something to implement overtime slowly moving things over and taking time to not overload people and do something that people enjoy. This obviously isn't something to be taken lightly but is something that should be considered if you want to improve the enjoyment of the league beyond it's current capabilities.

As I just joined a few days ago I do not know much about the league. All that I know is what I learned from the PBE Discord servers when I asked which other sim league to join. That being said, I saw a recording of one of the streams for the NSFL and it looked very simplistic at least as compared to what I was used to. Obviously, this is not the league’s fault as there are only so many options of games to be able to run a sim league with but if I could change anything about the league, I would make a better game to run the sims on. Again, I have not actually watched a full stream for the NSFL so I am really just talking out of my ass. For all I know, the game engine in this league could be the best among all sim leagues. I just think it is a bit odd that all of the players look like checkers pieces. Personally, I like to play chess more than checkers but that is completely off topic and probably just a random comment to help fill up words for this PT. No one actually reads these things, right? Anyways, I can’t wait to watch a stream so I can eat my words and look like an idiot for criticizing the league.
