You make a fair point Mithrandir. Although I do respect ADwyer87's point as well.
How about a fair counterpoint of we just treat those selections as free spaces and give them to everyone?

These sorts of situations should be treated as essentially mandatory GM picks, making the second round the appropriate spot for these players. These two teams even gave up draft capital to trade up for those players despite not needing to, while two of the obligatory GM picks gamed the system by trading down to the end of the second round, picking up extra picks knowing that they would still get their guys.
I mean i do have a general issue with concept of rookies holding out for a team, and it greatly annoys me

But, that statement was also just a joke haha

@ADwyer87 I respect your opinions as you've been around a long time. I don't really like that rookies can hold out for one team either. In these specific cases, however, Slothlisberger and Bumper were not consensus first round talents, and the players those teams took instead, Witten and Magic, were seen as second or third round talents by many. Saying that my statement is a joke is pretty disrespectful, especially if you aren't going to back it up with any reasons.

Additionally, I think trading back in the second for your obligatory GM pick to pick up extra value is a far bigger breach and should be addressed by HO.

no, you misunderstand, im not saying YOUR statement is a joke, i was saying that MY statement saying COL and NOLA should be fined is a joke. Im sorry if it came off that way

But i think the biggest thing with GMs and rookies trading back is that in the GM case, everyone is on equal footing. Any team can trade back for any of their GM players. its known the moment they recreate that they will be gotten with the lowest 2nd rounder. With people who hold out, it is an unfair advantage. they may not have been consensus top talents, but they were people who were now essentially undraftable by any other team, thus giving the team that drafted them an unfair advantage whether they get them in the 1st or the 21st. theres other sketchy stuff that comes into play, but also just some misinformation i was told from people as well which just has it come off very poorly to me. When 3 players who I would have certainly had a great interest in otherwise are taken off the board before a pick is even made, its very frustrating

Sorry for misunderstanding! What do you propose as the solution to the holdout scenario? I agree that it's an issue but it doesn't have a clear solution

im not sure honestly. i dont think we could ever really solve it without a sort of compensation draft pick system maybe? even then that would probably get messy and creates its own problems
