*Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - Memento Mori - 04-23-2020

I think there's a difficult balance to strike though. You see this in all games. It would be really cool and immersive if people actually wanted to chase big contracts. But the only reason they'd want to, is if they needed to.

We'd have to make training/equipment much more expensive, or jobs and media and graphics pay much less. Maybe both. The situation you might run into is that by making things more grind-y, people who don't do as much of this are put off and lose interest in the league. With lots of RPGs people either play loads or not at all because of mechanics like this.

I'd rather have contracts be unrealistic than make them more realistic but put some users off as a result.

Exactly this. This is a league for fun. We all come here to chill, talk to our friends, and watch a sim every now and then. No one comes here to 'work'. No one really wants to work. The harder you make it to earn at a decent rate, the worse you'll see retention rates become. I'm a perfect example. I write here because I enjoy it and it never felt like work. I was once tempted to join PBE thought and went to check it out. Upon realizing it it was far more grindy than NSFL, I swiftly backed out because I was unwilling to put in the extra effort they require there to earn at a higher rate.

What about a fixed inflation system for each new season. I.e. every season increase costs 10% across the board. Training, equipment etc. Increase pay the same value so new money is always equal buy old money devalues.

Probably neater to devalue people’s bank balance by 10% and keep the same net prices however but I think that accomplishes the same thing

this still shocks me just because i know we talked about it already, but PBE seemed way too easy and thats why I left, because i felt that putting effort in wouldnt get me anywhere

I dont think we need to (or should) make things more expensive to fix some of these issues though. If we wanted to do something, we could find other things to add. I dont think these would totally fix everything, but some ideas I have had are legal multis and team owners. There are certainly issues with these proposals and things, but the thought process for me is always to give something for people to strive for. In the end, we dont want casual people to be hurt. But adding things for guys to strive for if they want it, but dont have to use to get a full experience. Would be a nice way to first of all to reward members like infinite and isa, who have so much money they could not lift a finger till like S50 and be fine. theyve earned a lot of money, and im sure they'll both say they do it for the love of the league, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt work on rewarding them with something. Second of all, just lower tier things that might encourage people to earn more, but doesnt force them to. Just something that makes your work actually worth something tangible. I know many people have said they do it for the love of the league, and thats great. But that doesnt mean we need that to be the only thing you can get

Haha. I made this comment before our discussion in GM chat! My opinion has actually swayed a bit as I've learned more about the contract systems in PBE. It does look like despite things being more expensive there, it may be easier to build a bank there!
