Dear Media - slothfacekilla - 07-10-2020 I was one of the media graders that weighed in thinking this was not league related enough to get paid. I wasn't aware that other articles of the same sort were getting paid out, and if I did I would have said we had to pay this one too. The lack of consistency and communication is not good, and I apologize for that. I'm just the podcast guy here but I tend to be around a lot. If anyone ever has any media issues feel free to reach out to me. It isn't a perfect solution but I'll do my best to help in any way I can. Perhaps that is why he didn't want to deal with people acting so passive aggressively Dear Media - Memento Mori - 07-10-2020 Hi @SchwarzNarr. Some people on the grading team thought it should've been graded, others didn't. Grading head ruled it shouldn't be graded. I won't speak for him. I've pasted this topic in the grading discord so he sees it. I was one of the people who didn't think it should be graded. I don't think some of the topics you've linked should've been graded either. My stance tends to be that stuff that's really tangential should be paid out at a lower rate or not at all, but I'm harsher on that front than some of the others. I do know that this was applied to some of the topics you linked, though. To address @IsaStarcrossed's point, there's been other media that hasn't attacked or insulted other people which hasn't been graded. Grading this would set the precedent that 'if you include a league-related intro and outro you can write 5000+ words of whatever you like'. I think it'd be wrong if I could write an article saying that in his spare time Brandon Booker likes to play Football Manager and then included a 5000 word section summarising my FM20 save. I think it'd be wrong if I could write an article saying that while at college Brandon Booker got an internship in an office and then I wrote 5000 words describing my typical irl workday. Back to the general point: People get annoyed when they see giant articles with little or no league-related content paid out for amounts dwarfing league content. As you say yourself, league content is harder to write about. It usually requires research or a lot of background knowledge. This takes time and effort to accumulate. I think your article would've been graded at the usual rate if it'd been shorter, but more words = more pay = more scrutiny. I think we're fairly reasonable with our grading though, and I think some of the takes in this thread are a little OTT. We have paid out over $78,000,000 to SchwarzNarr including millions in bonuses for her creativity in the short time she's been on the site, but this one rubbed some people the wrong way. We're generally criticised for giving out too much money rather than giving out too little, and perhaps the grading has become harsher over time to reflect that. That's me speculating, though. We don't tend to do individualised feedback, and I'd point to the GFX department for why. It slows grading times down a lot, and there are far more media submissions than graphic submissions. I think a media arbitration thread would be terrible, too. Just look at the graphics arbitration thread and you'll see why. The current media spreadsheet has 4800+ articles we've paid out in it, and there would've been hundreds (thousands?) more that pre-dated this current sheet. So basically you're punishing someone because they wrote too much and made too much money while giving other passes because they weren't as creative nor have as much money? Even though both articles have the same amount of league content? The amount paid to player should have to relevance to any article they have written in the past. It should only involve the one being graded. More than that, punishing someone just because they did more is absurd. Dear Media - Amidships - 07-10-2020 (07-10-2020, 12:37 PM)Memento Mori Wrote:... Totally understand your rationale. My thought was that while it may not be an ideal solution to solve problems, it would at least formalize the process for appeal. That end goal could be met in a lot of other ways, but an appeal thread was just the first thing that came to mind. This does assume that the team is willing to accept appeals on payouts, though, which I suppose it isn't obligated to do. I appreciate your response and perspective. There’s usually a little more leeway shown to, for example, New User A who writes a backstory light on league content because they’re new and they need money to afford to improve their player. I think there was less league content in the post in question than many of those linked, and I think ‘league characters play a tabletop game’ is far more removed from ‘league characters do things related to their football career’ and that it’s fair to take that into account. I’d also disagree with the notion that more divorced from football necessarily makes it more creative or that creativity should be one of the more important factors when grading an NSFL media piece. I don’t think it’s absurd to scrutinise longer pieces more, either. Of the articles listed, none of them have anything to do with a football career. What you did at a BBQ is not career related. Getting arrested over fireworks and not mentioning anything about league backlash is not career related. Being investigated by the FBI about things completely irrelevant to football while not mentioning the league isn't career related. Per the FAQ: “ A: Yes. As long as it's somewhat league-related, your media will be accepted and graded. Writing about what your player does between games or his personality in the locker room for example would work.” I fail to see how a media piece about them playing DND presumably between games given they’re all football players plus a piece that develops the characters’ personalities (which would then translate to the LR) doesn’t fall under the above definition Dear Media - IsaStarcrossed - 07-10-2020 (07-10-2020, 12:37 PM)Memento Mori Wrote:We don't tend to do individualised feedback, and I'd point to the GFX department for why. Also do I have to mention how absurd this is? This isn't "hey, we are gradin your article an 8.0 out of 10.". This is legit "we aren't paying you and have no intentions of even making you aware that we aren't paying you." |
