Just a quick update to this. I did some very brief tests in DDSPF21 with freezing system time to see if I could get duplicate game results. Seems like Wolverine Studios changed their randomization code because even with my system time frozen, I still received unique results every time I simmed.

what a crazy finding. thinking about it, using the system clock to randomize makes some sense, but also wow. the duplicate play by play might be the craziest thing i've ever seen. did that come up in an exhibition or from the actual season sim?

Exhibition games. All of this testing actually was done using exhibition games.


So you haven't tried to do this with an actual season? Ah nuts.

Sorry I must not be understanding something here. I've simmed plenty of exhibition games in 16 within a 3 minute window of each other and the games were never the exact same, or even remotely close to each other 99% of the time.

No worries. It isn't so much if you sim multiple exhibition games within the 3.5 minute window. It's more if you manage to run multiple batches within this window. By batch, I mean run a certain number of games, close DDSPF, re-open DDSPF, run the same number of games. Provided you don't change any gameplan/depth chart settings (and don't save the league file after closing either), the games in one batch will be exact duplicates of the games in the next batch.

Even then, something about this isnt jiving with my prior experience with the sim. I no longer have 16 thanks to a corrupted hard drive but if you ditch the batch tool and just run an exhibition, reload, run another exhibition you're telling me those two games will be exactly the same, assuming they fall in that window?

the real solution is to have all the rookies run the same batch setup, do cross-analysis, compile all the unique results, and then do it again ---- and lock them in the catacombs if they refuse

Is it too early to crown London the Big Brain Base?

Correct. I tried exactly this just now with the DSFL S25 Week 5 file (picked randomly, league file doesn't matter). Without the batch tool, I manually ran an exhibition game between Dallas and Kansas City, closed the league file (without saving), re-opened DDSPF16 and reloaded the same file, and ran another Dallas and Kansas City exhibition game. Same exact box score, stats, play by play, everything.

using system clock time as a seed for random makes sense. thats pretty common. what's amazing to me is that they don't recalculate with a fresh seed on a case by case basis when something needs to be calculated within the sim engine -- as evidenced by the duplicate plays. that's... basic logic, i thought.

once again, wolverine studios proving that i think (or at least thought) too highly of them. smh my head.
