Just from being in Portland alone over the last year, I've seen us like quadruple the number of capped players we have for a season, if not more. The way the DSFL cap works makes it a lot easier for teams to have big ups and downs usually, but Portland has been able to pick up a lot of steam by stimulating activity and keeping around semi active players that would usually have solid ISFL careers as role players but can no longer compete with the oversaturated rosters. Even if we expanded to 18 rn, this Portland roster would still be one I'd be psyched to have in S23. There are probably 20-25 that will be called up after two seasons of being down. Some are looking at potentially 3 seasons of send down. This is not because of salary cap, but because the players ahead of them are all too high TPE to be replaced. This is causing some older users to retire early and cut short their careers, in some cases Hall of Fame careers, and younger users to be called up just for there to be a spot for them to play on the team that drafted them. This also often causes the team to lose roughly 300-400 TPE at that position until that younger player can develop. But now the younger player has missed two seasons of the beginning of his career, and will likely miss two or three seasons at the end of his career because he will have to do the same thing that the older player once did to him. Now this is not going to be every draftee. But it will be the majority at this stage unless something is done.Wow, it’s worse than I thought. I’ve been wondering if we need to change the regression scale given that people are playing fewer ISFL seasons - due to more time being sent down - so that users get more out of their ISFL careers once they make it up there. But that’ll mean that players spend even more time in the DSFL if there’s not another bigger offsetting measure applied at the same time. I remember reading a QB’s media piece (Cue’s?) about how the DSFL got boring by the second or third season, and those long DSFL careers are becoming the norm for everyone, not just QBs. On potentially losing DSFL teams: I do think contraction is possible if we expand the ISFL, at the moment we’re seeing some teams fall to 5-7 actives pre-draft if they get particularly hurt by call-ups one offseason. That number could drop with more roster spots in the ISFL. I think it’s a legitimate concern. But if the trade off for potentially losing 2 DSFL teams is less time spent in the DSFL for the average user, more ISFL roster spots, better retention, etc., I’m taking that risk every time. RE: S27 Trade Deadline Newsletter - Opera_Phantom - 02-26-2021 It sounds like something i said yeah. And even though the DSFL at the time was different, as it had less users, it gets boring. After a while all.you think about is when you're getting called up. And as a QB, you already knew that would happen, less spots on the ISFL.. but now that's happening on nearly every single.position... it sucks. I hoped that expansion would come sooner rather than later, I'm obviously thinking about my recreate and i really don't want to be playing in the DSFL again for 3 seasons. I don't see myself leaving the league, but my interest would drop significantly. If given a choice between expanding the ISFL and that takes us to a contraction on the DSFL or keeping it like it is... I know what i would choose for sure. As for Laser suggestion, increasing the TPE limit on the DSFL, i really don't think it would make a lot of difference tbh. I'd rather play in the ISFL with 250 TPE than in the DSFL with 1000.But a lot of people probably think differently on this. |
