I think the system does miss out on some context that creates some issues but it would be incredibly difficult to add a modifier that accounts for GMs who say operated during a big rebuild or had an expansion team. And of course some asterisk type issues arise. So I feel based on this and from working with them personally that Bayley and Bovo are both too low for what they actually did. Dwyer is too high. But that's the fun of something like this. It's a nice base to build from in debating. Massive work. Great job.


If I were to suggest a category that I didn't see (assuming I didn't just miss it) it would be good to add some credit for making the ultimus in a losing effort as well. I think the right amount of credit for that would help the rankings of people like Bovo and various yow and baltimore gms who got there but ran into whatever asfc brick wall was happening at the time

I agree with your first point, which is why we're doing out rankings and then combining those with the sheet here. I also agree with the second, but I think that will also be fleshed out in manual rankings. My playoff record is 6-7 but I lost an Ultimus and had like 3 or 4 byes. Byes aren't accounted for or credited much like Ultimus losses, but there isn't an easy way to account for those in the current formula. They will likely be listed in GM summaries though

As an aside, I notice I apparently was roughly average as a GM. Good to know, given I did essentially fuck all in terms of strategy and was pretty sure I was actually quite bad overall.
Feels really weird to be ranked above say, Hendrix, for example. Or any of the other guys I think are pretty hard-done-by in this formula.
Still, this is a really solid attempt at objectively rating GMs.

fwiw s2 gms should be Nuck (head gm) + bzerkap co gm, archon never met nuck , then I believe it went Bzerkap head gm and Archon was hired as co gm but he stepped down i think nearly that same week, and bovo was the co-gm that season and after
