RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - Opera_Phantom - 06-28-2021 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? (5 TPE) Cue Jr. career started with a bang. Pulling great numbers, rushing touchdowns left and right, catching passes short and long, what a fantastic season he had, he has to be a lock for the rookie of the year award. Wait... Am i looking at the right stat line? Oops... Let me rephrase it then: Cue Jr had probably the shittiest season ever from a running back that had games as a RB1. He played 16 games, rushed 149 times for 520 yards (not a lot by any means), averaging 3.5 yards per carry and for a grand total of 4 Touchdowns. Not bad for a rookie hey? Who am i kidding, it sucked. This just shows that the new sim is way less forgiving to rookie running backs. I remember that with DDSPF 16 a rookie RB could pretty much carry his team on occasions, and put up very respectable stats to fight the position veterans. But nowadays, the'21 sim destroyed those possibilities. Still, i am pretty happy to have been called up in the first season (Sorry Norfolk Seawolves), so that i could see for myself how this works. The fact that i had a pretty underwhelming season at least means that the only way is up. I am not preoccupied with HoF careers, Most valuable player awards or pro bowls, but i do know that as an offensive player, the better i do stat wise, the closer the team gets to winning games and championships. As for the team, the Yellowknife Wraiths, despite Cue Jr. not having great numbers, this meant the the offense had to blow up the defenses. Colby Jack pulled up MVP numbers, throwing for nearly 6000 yards, 44 TDs and 13 INTs, with Kai Sakura and Mark Walker getting 1838 and 1471 yards, for 15 a 12 TDs repectively. Incredible numbers. Even the TE, Zee Rechs, racked up 10 TDs, with Cue getting 3. All in all, the numbers show that YKW had a good season, but unfortunately for them, 10 wins were not enough to get a playoff spot, as Sarasota, Colorado and Berlin managed a few more. And coming fresh from an Ultimus game win, not getting into the post season in the next season has to be considered a failed season for the team. YKW is used to having winning seasons, and the fact that they are now all at home watching the games in tv show they need to do much better in season 30. (415 words) 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? (2.5 TPE) I was never a sim freak in my time here. Adding to that, since i am in europe, i rarely get to see the games live, so i miss most discussions about plays (stupid ones normally) that happen during the games. So what i knew from DDSPF 16 was the most common things users "complained" about, like the 79 speed QB, or the punting at 4th and 1 while 1 point down with 1 minute to go on the game, classic stuff. So far, while i am also not involved with this sim setup, the complaints seem to have dropped, from my perspective. There are still some "perks" this sim offers its users, but i do feel like it more balanced, the home field advantage weight was reduced, bringing more parity to the league. The sim is still going to sim sometimes, so stronger teams will still lose to weaker ones when nobody is expecting it. And, of course, it is only a matter of time, if it did not happen already, for someone with time and knowledge, to "break" the sim and find some kind of exploit in it that they will use to their advantage. I can't wait to learn about it in like 10 seasons or more. (210 words) 29. Affliate PT from either SHL/PBE. The Weeks must match with the timeframe of this UW, which would mean SHL's PT #2/S60 SMJHL PT #3 and PBE's PT 26-2. (2.5 TPE) SHL Affiliate RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - Ace - 06-28-2021 T3, Task 25 – Another Position (2.5 TPE) C.J. Sonjack, Cornerback. It has a ring to it. This player was born to be a shutdown CB, but if I was at the point of starting another player, I think that I would go with a runningback. I am not a football junkie, and I would consider myself a very casual fan, but seeing a dominant runningback breaking through the hole in the line of scrimmage and sprinting for 30 yards is always exhilarating to watch. I watch a guy like Derrick Henry just shed tacklers like they were toddlers and it makes me chuckle. I would have to go back to the drawing board to consider what my player name would be, as C.J. Sonjack is a play on J.C. Jackson on the Patriots, who was lethal in regards to interceptions this past season. Would I go as a power running back though? It’s was super fun to see the Tom Brady to James White passing combination. At times, it felt like James White was Brady’s favorite receiver to target, despite being a RB. Being that passing target for a QB seems like a ton of fun too, without having to worry about drawing the top shutdown CBs. It could probably create a matchup nightmare if you got real good at that side of the game. T3, Task 28 – Affiliation (2.5 TPE) SHL PT T2, Task 9 – Commissioner For A Day (5 TPE) Boy, the ISFL is in trouble. I am now commissioner! Tremble before me, mortals! I have announced an immediate initiative to begin negotiations with the SHL Head Office to enable a money transfer agreement, further strengthening our partnership and synergy with the league I pay a significant amount of time to. A long term, established member of the SHL? Struggling to make cash to support your player in the ISFL? Just transfer over 50M! You’ll be all set, and can be a max earner without having to get a job or type up novels to compete with Starcrossed or Murder Moose. It remains to be seen how the SHL Head Office or their community would react to his suggestion, and I would assume that it will take more than one day to finalize a plan, but man, that’d make my life here a ton easier. In addition to the negotiation and communication extended to our hockey brethren, I would have a chat with our player progression folks. For far too long, we’ve been expecting DSFL players and new members to somehow have an idea or an understanding of the comings and goings of the ISFL. There’s a distinct learning curve, and not much payoff other than potentially increased TPE payout for those people that invest the extra time and effort into the league they’re not participating in. I recommend to the ISFL Player Progression staff to consider an alternate to the weekly predictions PTs. I’ve honestly been copy pasting random people’s posts during my tenure here. Perhaps we open an alternate one for DSFL players so they can predict on teams and a league that they’re more interested in and aware of. Thirdly, we will have a sit down with the GMs. We understand that historically drafts have been done in advance and over a period, but it creates a ton of work and isn’t fair to realistically expect war rooms to keep things internal. To further emulate the NFL and a real draft experience, we will be shifting to a live draft effective immediately. We will poll GMs in advance to find a time that is agreeable and that works for them, and far enough in advance so if they cannot make the draft they can designate a representative for their franchise from their war room to run the draft for them. No more worrying about leaks, a more genuine draft experience, and a ton more fun. RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - IsaStarcrossed - 06-28-2021 6. Write 800 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 800 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something. I think it is time that we have a discussion on the strange mystery that is the Colorado Yeti defense and how it seems that sim team balancing may have swung things in a major way for not only this roster but the league as a whole. Keep in mind this is not to insult or rag on the sim team at all, but simply an observation of a chain of even that started when we moved sims. In season 27 the Colorado Yeti barely slipped into the playoffs and only did so with some late season heroics. A big part of that was their defense which while didn't look that good on paper, was statistically one of the best in the league. They were top half in the league in every stat that mattered. Tied 7th for tackles for a loss, fifth in sacks, they led the league in turnovers with 22 interceptions and 14 fumble recoveries, they led the league with defended passes at 129, and they managed to pull together six defensive touchdowns. It was a dominant effort by a defense that made the big plays when they were needed. They tended to give up a ton of yards through the air, but overall they were sixth in yards allowed and when they really needed a play, they would show up. They did this by running an electric 3-4 defense with the blitz ratio set to 100. Then after that season for some reason the sim team decided to nerf the blitz ratios. No real reason was given to why, but they felt like the blitz rations made 3-4 too good. Despite our defense getting better in that offseason with several big name signings and our entire defensive side max earning, the next season was an absolute wreck. This team went from being top half of the league in every defensive stat to being bottom half in almost all of them. We continued to try to run 3-4 because that is what our defense was build for, but then we were dead last in tackles for a loss with only 12, we were last in turnovers with our interceptions down to only 7, a third of the previous season totals and our forced fumbles were cut in half. Our PDs were ranked 10th and we only managed one defensive touchdown. It was clear that the blitz ratio being dropped from 100 to 80 had a dramatic impact on the Yeti as they played identical to the season before. The big difference was this team was not capable of making the big play anymore. We missed the playoffs despite our offense setting records through the season. Due to this, I decided the be selfless for our team. I wanted back in the playoffs and it was pretty clear that the defense simply was not going to work if we continued to play 3-4. I once wanted a full linebacker career after spending my first player at defensive tackle, but now volunteered to play at defensive end so we could mix 4-3 into our defense. The impact was dramatic as the Yeti cam second in sacks, were fifth in fumble recoveries, and ranked up 15 interceptions for double the season before. The defense returned to scoring with their four defensive touchdowns and once more the team lead the league in passes defended. The when you look at yards and points allowed, the Yeti dramatically improved in both and had the best defensive season they'd had in the new sim. Ranked third in both points allowed and total yards allowed made it pretty clear that this Yeti defensive had made dramatic strides in the right direction and we didn't change personnel at all aside from picking up a 300 TPE Bubba Thumper to play backup. The only change was that now I was playing defensive end so that the Yeti could play 4-3. Obviously this is a small sample size and it could ber very easily boiled down to luck, but the Yeti don't change players often. Our roster stays consistent and so the only real difference in our play tends to be through the strats and it is clear that for the Yeti, 3-4 is no longer efficient. Having our top TPE player on our defense playing out of position to play a formation the team wasn't built around in order to win games should not be how things work. I think the nerfs to the blitz ratios were too harsh overall and may have made 4-3 the clear favorite as far as efficient defensive play is concerned. We went from testing incredibly well running only 3-4 to barely being able to win games and now we're forced to use 4-3. This all happened with nothing in our personnel changing. I'm not sure why the league decided to nerf the blitz ratios, but it had a profound impact on a team in its prime and lost them a season where they could have made a championship run. I hope we don't see further nerfs or buffs to strats without data and legitimate reasons provided. WithTheMoose in SHL RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - FootballIsCool - 06-28-2021 10/10 22. I am in charge of the Season 30 Ultimini Half-time show. The headliner for this show is the former artist formerly known as Prince. Due to the ultimini being held in Minneapolis. Prince and the revolution is the natural headliner being a Minnesota resident himself. Starting out the entertainment the ghost of Prince’s past, blouse and all will rise through the middle of the stage on a pedestal and will challenge Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy and his crew to a basketball game titled “shirts vs blouses”. Prince’s crew will blow out the Murphy boys. Prince will open up with a cover of Queen’s hit song “We will rock you”. Then a smooth transition into Eddie Murphy’s hit song, “Party all the time”. That’ll then transition into Prince’s song “Let’s go Crazy” followed up by “Baby I’m a Star”. Doves will be released and there will be a dancing brigade that will be dropping some sick choreographed moves. As Prince and the Revolution start playing “1999” the pastel colors everywhere really made you feel like you were partying like it was 1999. Followed by the classic "Raspberry Beret". Then all of a sudden it begins to rain right as the lights dim down low and "Purple Rain" is then performed. [209 words] 23. ![]() 27. There are a lot of teams in the league that have some really great brandings but I think the team that has the best branding in the league is the Colorado Yeti. I would consider the Yeti to be my favorite branding because of their use of black as a focal point with how colorful this logo is by using the Colorado state flag. Everything is on a red backdrop in front of which is the Colorado flag’s iconic C outlined in royal blue in front of what is assumed to be a yeti but it is actually just a silhouette of what is unknown. In addition to that I think of all of the potential ways you could portray a missing link or yeti going with something unknown and lacking in detail was the right move. This is a team branding that I could see at a professional level and is something that I would happily purchase merchandise for. The team that I would like to have a rebrand or the logo that I like the least is the Wraiths. It’s the worst logo in the league and isn’t at all what I picture a wraith as. It feels more like a skeleton than ghost-like. [206 word] 29. SHL Affiliate PT Different Username: Hockeyiscool RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - Mavfatha - 06-28-2021 PBE PT 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? So full disclosure I do not pay all that much attention to the sim overall. But if I had to write about it which I kind of do, I would say that the sim as it is now is certainly better than DDSPF16. There are definitely still some issues when it comes to stat tracking in particular - we should be able to see things like penalties committed on the index for offensive linemen, and I'm assuming there were still some kind of continuity issues for team and league records overall which should also be viewable from the index. Admittedly this could be more of an issue from what we are able to handle as a league and not just issues with the index or sim and I am just not aware of what is going on behind the smokescreen so to speak. Still, even though the big numbers are not being put up by me as I mainly play interior linemen, it has been great to see some amazing record setting seasons from my fellow offensive linemen since switching to the new sim, and I am a huge fan of things like traits that we were not able to use in the old engine. Of course, I would like to actually know what those traits do in a more well-defined way, but it's still fun. 26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? My version of football would truly be something to behold. There would be no need for such banalities as "keeping score", "using an actual football", or "having players at positions other than offensive and defensive line". Instead, the entire 11 on 11 game would just be linemen of both sides of the ball going head to head until either the entire defensive line gets past the offensive line, or until the entire offensive line puts the defensive line down on their butts. Basically one big rugby scrum but that's the entire game. Pancake numbers would soar even more through the roof, and each offensive lineman and each defensive lineman would be assigned their own referees, to make sure those dirty defensive linemen don't get away with any BS like they always do. This would create more jobs as refs for all of the current players too small and puny to participate in this new and better version of football. We would also do away with things like pads and uniforms, instead going at it sumo style. Huh I guess this is basically just team sumo wrestling at this point - that just sounds way better than football honestly so I am pretty sure that I have invented the best new sport on the planet thanks to this championship week task. RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - jzajenius36 - 06-28-2021 12. I know this short form task is supposed to be writing about another team or player that isn’t your own, but I’d like to use this time to write about my team’s General Manager, Lip Chap – or as others affectionately know him as – Pat. As I’ve outlined in previous write-ups, I feel like I arrived at a pretty tumultuous time for the Philadelphia Liberty. Our team was not good, we were young, but way too young to be on anyone’s radar, our handful of decent vets were basically in their last season before retirement or heavy regression, and we were about to go through a managerial change. Considering it was my first season in the ISFL, I figured hey maybe this is standard procedure. Ignorance is bliss I guess. Well after my rookie season the new GM took over, and I wonder if all teams are this lucky. Looks, I’m probably somewhat of an ‘old head’ on this site, so the memes and the crazy non-stop discord action is a bit too much for me, but Pat has always made it a point to reach out to me directly to keep me engaged has answered and solved a lot of my inquires in mere minutes, and continues to be Honky Tonk Haywood’s biggest advocate in the league. And that’s been from day 1. So while the wins have been a bit slow to pick up, it’s clear we have a plan as well as the support system in place to keep the team energized and morale up while we forge ahead. While I’ve enjoyed my experience thus far, it’s been a bit tough to watch Haywood’s counting stats sit at the bottom of the league – until this year at least. And my general manager, Lip Chap, has been preaching to anyone that will listen about possible player awards. Mr. Chap isn’t just one of these suits who sits upstairs and sends a minion to do his bidding. No. He’s often found in the locker room, giving advice to young players about what they should focus their training on and how their skills will translate to the field in this age of the ISFL. He’s also terribly optimistic and upbeat. Anytime Philly wins you can hear Lip speaking to reporters about how these young kids have finally made it, and ‘look out league!’ But anytime Philly loses he’s the first in the locker room telling us ‘we fought till the end against one of the best in the league. Our time is nearly here!’ Maybe annoying to an outsider, but as one of these ‘young guy’ players, it really makes you want to get out there and win one for the Gipper! So here’s to you, Mr. Chap. Not a playoff birth yet, but at least acknowledgement in the form of an Ultimus Week article! (474 words) _________________________ 14. Ok so I need to use this short form task to finally highlight my player, Honky Tonk Haywood, but this time for good reasons! While I’ll admit I tend to write about myself quite frequently, often the message is something along the lines of how Haywood is not impacting the stat sheet yet, or committed some terrible penalty at an inopportune time, or is the quiet type in the locker room, BUT NO. NOT THIS TIME. Season 29 was finally a chance to celebrate individual success for the fat boi. Yes, it was a disappointing season on a whole for Phildalphia, as it’s clear we’re still another season or two away from factoring into playoff scenarios, but personal pride will get it’s due this year. While Haywood’s rookie numbers were solid, finishing with 42 tackles and 4 sacks, Hawyood’s sophomore year was one to forget as he finished with just 47 tackles and one forced fumble, with zeros across the board for everything else. The following two years saw an uptick in impact plays, but nothing indicating Haywood was on his way to establishing himself as anything more than an occasional short yardage run stuffer. A far cry from his collegiate success in Tennessee. However, Haywood came out as a man possessed in Season 29. Be it offseason results in the weight room, the improvement of defensive teammates, coaching, or a combo of it all, Haywood became most impactful defensive tackle in the league. Haywood finished 50th in the league in tackles with 80, an absurd number for his position. Only 3 other defensive tackles and one defensive end even broke the 60 tackle mark, with none above 67. Although Yellow Knife Defense End Leonard Taylor may be the frontrunner for DLOTY with 67 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks, Haywood’s 11 tackles for loss were tied for second in the league. So although Haywood may likely lose out to defense end/s with more flash and sexy stats in sack and fumble departments, it’s evident that the best run stuffer in the league resides in Philadelphia. Austin Copperhead’s defensive tackle Owen Isaac did tie Haywood with 11 tackles for loss and had two more sacks, Haywood did have one more forced fumble and a whopping 28 more tackles. There is no doubt Haywood still needs to work on some parts of his game - his discipline and getting to the quarterback being top priority. And while eclipsing S29’s numbers may be a tall ask, it seems clear that Haywood has arrived as an impact player and, as scary as it sounds, just might even be a better all around player this year. (444 words) RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - shrub02 - 06-28-2021 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? Bender came into this season with high expectations. After a solid rookie year, he looked to greatly improve his statistical output. He was called up to the big leagues immediately after being drafted last season, so I was well aware that achieving the Defensive Rookie of the Year award was pretty much not an option. My goal for him became to win the Breakout player of the year award. I figured that if he could get 11 sacks, more than double his rookie season, it would be possible. Throw in some forced fumbles and interceptions and it would be a lock. Bender started off the season on track to meet this goal. He had a sack in each of the first four games and was the Otter's leading tackler through the first half of the season. I understood that getting sacks at this rate was unsustainable, so I was really hoping for at least one, maybe two, multi sack games. Unfortunately that did not occur. Bender's hot start to the season eventually returned to his normal production. Though it was an improvement from his rookie campaign, I would have like to see him become more of a playmaker. I think my favorite Bender highlight was in week 13 against SJS. The Sabercats were driving in OCO territory looking to score when Bender strip sacked the QB and recovered the fumble. The Otter's offense went on to score that next drive and we eventually won the game by one score. It's always nice to see your player having an impact like that. I hope to see it more often next season. As a team, the Otters had a similarly hot start to the season but were unable to maintain the momentum until the end. We started off with the best performing defense in the league (maybe partly due to Bender's sim luck at the time??). We were in third place most of the season, primed for a playoff birth. Unfortunately we could not overcome our kryptonite, the Second Line, and lost to them twice this season, putting them ahead of us in the standings. We even tried a straight running game plan against their terrible run defense. But, alas, the sim gods denied us by limiting us to 7 rushes. We had something like over 20 yards per carry that game. But noooo the sim decided to pass 50 times instead. Yes, I am a bit salty about that one. Man I hate losing to NOLA. Anyways, on a positive note, we did improve our record from the past season. With our team steadily improving in TPE and Blas's genius running the team, the league better be on the lookout for the #OtterSlaughter next season. 454 words 19. If your player had a show starring them, what would the plot be? Graphic Option: Create the cover art for your player’s show ![]() 27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why? ![]() RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - Void_DCXI - 06-28-2021 Tier 1 - 1 As the season draws to a close, there are a few surprises regarding the playoff picture. I don’t think Berlin was expected to take control of the league with a 13-3 record. Nobody expected Austin to fall flat with a 5-10-1 record to finish out the year. Last season’s Ultimus winners even fell out of the playoffs entirely! So let’s see how each team made it into the playoffs. The New Orleans Second Line manage to squeeze into the playoffs with a 9-7 record, the worst team to make it in. Their arrival was rather unexpected, as after week 10 they had a 4-6 record and were on the outside looking in. They managed to turn it around however, winning 5 of their next 6 and clinching a playoff spot in week 16 after the Silverbacks win against Orange County. A 4000 yard season for their quarterback and a 1000 yard season for their running back make them a threat, but their inconsistent play and middle of the road defense will likely be their downfall. Sticking with the ASFC, The New York Silverbacks head into the playoffs with a respectable 10-6 record. In the middle of the season, they went on a 6 game win streak, but have been rather inconsistent since then. Losses to San Jose, Philadelphia, and Honolulu make their playoff hopes seem dashed already. They do have quality wins however, like a tight week 2 win against New Orleans, and a 33-20 win over Arizona. With Sam Howitzer having his best year to date, and Captain Rogers leading the offense in spectacular fashion, it will be interesting to see how far New York will go in the playoffs. Let’s not forget that New York boasts a defense consisting of top players like Jack Banks and Bob Roberts. If they can just find some consistency, they could go very far. The top team in the ASFC, the Arizona Outlaws, seem to be on the fast track to an Ultimus. Undefeated through the first 5 games, they hit the ground running and never seemed to slow down. They would eventually lose, but after that they got right back to winning. They ended the season with 3 straight wins to clinch the conference and get a first round bye while New York and New Orleans battle it out in the wildcard round. Charlemagne Cortez threw for almost 5000 yards. Tatsu Nakamura ran for over 1500. This team is stacked on offense, but their defense might raise some concern. Only allowing less than 10 points in one regular season game, if they end up losing in the playoffs it will likely be due to their defense. Moving over to the NSFC, we have the 3rd seed Sarasota Sailfish. A couple seasons removed from an unexpected Ultimus win, they hope to recapture that magic and sneak their way in once more. A six game win streak early in the year proves they can light up the scoreboard if they want to, but close losses against Orange County, New York and Berlin took part in them only getting a wildcard spot. They’ll be playing on the road against the Colorado Yeti. Something a lot of these playoff teams have in common is large win streaks, and Colorado is no different. Winning seven in a row near the end of the season, Colorado will hope to build upon that momentum and capture an Ultimus. Mattathias Caliban threw for over 5700 yards and 24 touchdowns in this pass happy offense, but he needs to keep an eye on his interception total. They live by the pass, but if they’re not careful they will die by the pass. Last but not least is the 13-3 Berlin Fire Salamanders. They went on a monstrous eight game win streak to close out the season. It could have even been a 13 game win streak had they not lost by just one point to New Orleans. It is going to take a lot to beat the kings of the ISFL. A quarterback who throws for almost 5000 yards and 39 touchdowns, a running back who picks up 1200 yards and 13 touchdowns and a receiver who gets 1500 yards and 15 touchdowns. This is an incredibly hard to beat team, and it will take the kitchen sink and then some to beat them. So those are all of the playoff teams. Now the big question is who is gonna win the coveted Ultimus? The favorite is probably Berlin with their unmatched offense, but the playoffs are all about expecting the unexpected. Who knows, maybe New Orleans could win it. But one thing is for sure, and that’s the Ultimus is a special time for the landscape of the ISFL, and whoever wins it will go down in the history books. Show their stats, abilities, TPE, or highlights. Written or graphic option available. I have never seen a player exhibit more warranted confidence than Miles Weperom. No matter what he does, he always excels. In his rookie season with the London Royals, Weperom recorded a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a sack, and three interceptions. Did I say his rookie season? Sorry, my mistake, that was his statline from the four games when he was on waivers with 57 TPE. Weperom would go on to get drafted by the Norfolk Seawolves with the first overall pick in the DSFL draft for his true rookie season. It would not surprise me at all to see Weperom pull the double and get drafted with the first pick in the ISFL draft, as he always demands to be number one. Weperom’s user, MMFLEX, is the number one user in his class with 273 TPE, a whopping 14 ahead of the second place user. He also recorded the highest number of correct predictions throughout the season, earning him a league-high 44 TPE. MMFLEX is active in multiple league servers and brings a ton of energy whenever he is around for a conversation. He always believe that his team will win and that he is the best player on the field at any given moment. Any ISFL team that is able to land him will not regret using their pick on Weperom. 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? Even though there are some new oddities with DDSPF21, I am still overall pleased with the transition from DDSPF16. One of the most important exploits (79 Speed QB) was phased out with the transition to the new sim, so now there is no clear-cut dominant quarterback archetype that stands above the rest. Additionally, I really like the trait system that has been implemented in the new sim as it allows for an additional way to customize your player aside from solely increasing attributes. Most importantly though, my favorite aspect of transitioning to DDSPF21 is that greatly diminished bulk sim testing. I understand that this is still done through some methods, but the scope and amount of testing is far removed from what was possible in DDSPF16. I believe this has led to more diversity in player builds, as it is now much more difficult to definitively say that one archetype of a given position surpasses the other archetypes. About the only thing I miss from DDSPF16 is that the sim streams were shorter, but I believe this is because there were fewer plays in DDSPF16 (at least, it certainly feels that way as I can certainly recall spikes taking an absurd amount of time in the old game). 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? I can’t answer this question directly, but I can certainly tell you what would have happened given today’s rosters. When I created Juan Domine back in S24 I didn’t know that every player makes a DSFL roster, so I wanted to pick a position that was in short supply that would be highly valued. At the time, I somehow came to the conclusion that linebacker was the right position. I wasn’t tied to it in any meaningful way, but I believe that there weren’t enough linebackers to go around in the ISFL or DSFL—or it could have even been something as silly as noticing that there were very few free agent linebackers, which doesn’t make any sense in retrospect. If I were to repeat the same procedure again knowing more about how the league works, I’d most likely land on what I plan for my next player to be anyway—an offensive lineman! There are currently 47 offensive linemen on ISFL rosters, so that means 23 roster spots are currently occupied by bots. I am a firm believer that the fewer bots we have on the field, the better the experience will be for all of us. I am not particularly attached to accolades for my player, so I am happy to play a less flashy position if it means we can fill out the team’s roster a little more. 28. Choose one existing award. Tell us why you think a certain player should win that award this season. Stats, or anything else possible should be used to support your case. I would love to see Kiara Tenoh of the London Royals win Running Back of the Year in the DSFL. From what I can tell, the award looks to be a two person race between Tenoh and John Huntsman of the Grey Ducks. Huntsman has 81 more rushing yards and two more rushing touchdowns than Tenoh (though the touchdown gap is softened a bit by the fact that Tenoh had one more receiving touch down than Huntsman), but it also took him a whopping 81 more carries as he was the only running back rostered by Minnesota this season. Tenoh is the only running back averaging more than five yards per carry, with the next closest player (Noah Johns of the Portland Pythons) sitting at 4.8. To further argue for Tenoh over Huntsman, I think it is wise to consider the TPE of the players and their roster construction. Huntsman came into this season as a second year capped DSFL player, while Tenoh is a rookie who has not yet reached the DSFL cap. Additionally, Tenoh has one human offensive lineman blocking for her, while Huntsman line is complete with three humans and two GM bots. Tenoh was simply more efficient and almost matched Huntsman’s volume, doing more with less resources at her disposal, and I believe the awards voters (except for Minnesota) will share the same view. |
