To be clear, the grade goes to the pick, not the player. There's no question Kendrick-Watts has been as good as advertised. However, to use the 1OA pick on a player who started out 4th on the depth chart at his position rather than an immediate-impact, franchise-altering kind of prospect? I find the decision-making there to be questionable. The Hahalua got a terrific player, but did they make the best use of the draft pick?

It's entirely possible that Honolulu just didn't see that kind of player available in the draft, and the research kind of supports that. This was a draft with plenty of solid players but light on superstars. Had it been my call, I probably would've opted for one of the D-line monsters (Brando or Beanman) with the top pick.

All that being said, I definitely don't think Honolulu regrets their decision, and with another season or two of development Kendrick-Watts has the talent to be a Top 5 WR in the league.
This pick was more war room and locker room focused than position focused tbh. But pretty good analysis here, I could certainly see us taking Brando or Beanman if Numbers wasn’t available.

So this was my inexperience showing. I watched the draft last night and one thing I learned is that draft picks in this league are just as much, maybe more, about the *user* rather than the player. GMs talked about wanting to draft their friends, for example, or trying to accommodate a user who reached out wanting to get their player onto a specific team. That makes an article like this especially tricky then, because a pick that seems odd might have been, as you say, a great "locker room" pick. Or a player who doesn't have great stats might be an awesome user who does a ton for the league.

Because I wasn't aware of these things, I wrote this article from a strictly role-playing/kayfabe perspective. Even knowing what I know now, I will probably continue to do so for future articles of this nature just because I find that type of storytelling to be more fun. (And less complicated to research!)

To sum up, a pick that makes great sense in the real world because @124715 is a great user can still get a C grade in the article because for the purposes of the article, users don't exist.

I really hope I'm making sense.
