So then each team can only afford say 5 actives and the rest sit in free agency because they're unaffordable? The idea is that the teams with the most talent will have to let players go, who will then seek contracts among the less talented teams. So the backstory would be an S1 draftee who gets signed S1-S3, then gets extended for another three years. Even a $10M contract can't get you all the equipment. Throw in training and you still need to write or graphic just to make money. This is just to prevent the team-friendly contracts which are damaging the league. Flexible Salary Minimum - JBLAZE_THE_BOSS - 09-07-2017 Salaries should re-set each year based on your TPE tier. Much like in baseball the arbitration process goes for a few years until you're a free agent, it makes sure guys are paid based on how they play; in our league, based on how they earned TPE. So yeah you can sign that 1M deal for 4 seasons this year but if you keep tearing thru TPE, the cap hit is going to be, just an example, 4M by season 3. Helps keep from stacking a bunch of friends on one team or super teams and promotes parity. We could also do this to be more like the NFL as guys are cut because their cap hit isn't worth it compared to what they would be paid. So guys with bad builds or guys that float away could move teams as well; so no guaranteed contracts. Helps protect the teams also helps protect players when the system is combined. It can't get you all the equipment, no, but at that level you're probably maxed anyway so it's moot. The money would only be good for sitting in the bank, not even collecting interest. That doesnt make sense. Players should sign contracts based on their current play and potential, like in the NFL. As a result, players take minimum contracts, which allows for teams like the Outlaws to keep their core and add new players - the players just don't value money enough. The problem this solution wants to address is SOME contracts are being based on trying to undercut the market and/or stack teams so elite players are not being paid at a high level. Players should be paid what their market value would be. That's where the proposed plan becomes a solution, players are paid what they're worth. What we want to prevent is guys using the current rules as a loophole to have high TPE earners on minimum deals for several years. This is a sim league so money really doesn't mean anything. We replace the human emotion with baseline salaries and refreshing those salaries annually. Again, like MLB arbitration or Cap hits in NFL vary each year for different players would be the closest IRL thing I could think of. |
