First off, of course, he had to make the return trip home. After being thousands of miles away from his hometown, Kennedy had to return to New Orleans and experience all of the things he missed: the nightlife, the food, the family and friends he’d left behind. But it wasn’t all fun and games. Kennedy has big plans for this next season and so he returned to Yellowknife early, so that he could join the rookies in preparing for the season. He worked hard last year to become a solid fullback, making drastic improvements in blocking ability. However, those that know Kennedy know that the position is not his end goal. Placed behind former league MVP Bubba Nuck, Kennedy has vowed to master his fullback duties and find a way to be a bigger part of the offense. With that in mind, he has not only continued to greatly improve his blocking, but he has also put in a lot of work in the passing game. Latest reports from camp indicate that Kennedy has made major strides in pass catching and that, after catching 19 passes last season, his workload is expected to increase heavily this season. He expects to continue to make improvements as a running back across the board, but for now, his focus on blocking and catching has dominated his off-season training. 238 Words (S3) - Weekend PT #1 - Off-Season - bluesfan55 - 09-09-2017 This offseason was great for Joseph Lombardi. In preparation for the NSFL draft, Joey practiced daily while still studying at Vanderbilt University. His team would make the CFP Final, beating Ohio State 48-45 in the final. Lombardi kicked the winning field goal. He kept practicing, hoping to get picked in the top three rounds. Joey knew some teams needed a player in his position, and he hoped they'd take him. He wasn't, as our friend Joseph was drafted 51st overall by the Philadelphia Liberty. He trained hard after that as well, knowing that he'd be spending the season in the DSFL, as the Liberty have a stud player in his position, Kicker/Punter. Joseph doesn't have a DSFL team, as he's waiting for the DSFL draft. But with his rapid improvement, Lombardi could be seeing NSFL football in S4, whether as a kickoff specialist or a punter. In short, Lombardi improved a lot this season, and hoped to make an impact in the DSFL next season. After being taken 9th overall by the team that was his number one choice, he has been eagerly learning from the elders in his locker room about the finer points of player development. Francois has been busy writing articles in order to generate media money to finance his professional equipment and he has already purchased two of his four pieces before the first preseason game has even started. He's been engaging in focused exercises as an efficient means of strength conditioning and is using his time in the gym wisely to most effectively enhance his abilities. He is deeply appreciative of the Wraiths for picking him up and wants to make them proud by hopefully putting up good numbers in pursuit of the Season 3 Ultimus Cup. While he is appreciative of the Las Vegas Legion for picking him up off of waivers last season, he is incredibly impressed by the organization and the passion of his teammates in Yellowknife and it has inspired him to reach for new heights. Without a doubt, Francois is the happiest that he has been in his career and cannot wait for the season to start so he can prove his worth along with his team and make an impact on the league. (S3) - Weekend PT #1 - Off-Season - kckolbe - 09-09-2017 After a disappointing rookie season, Kevin Cushing knew that if NSFL career was going to last beyond his rookie contract, he would need to be on the same page as his defensive linemen. The combination of Jason Spearhead, Luke Chunk and Bork Bjornsson, two of whom were rookies, resulted in the most-pancaked defensive line in the league. Cushing’s high-profile reputation worked against him, as offensive linemen targeted him first with second-level blocks. Now that the Wraiths have drafted Eidur Gustavvson and Ryan Fitzfatrick, Bork Bjornsson has had a year of experience, and the great Ricky Maddox switching to defensive end, the Wraiths finally had enough talent to be successful at stopping the run and occasionally pressure a quarterback. Of course, with three fourths of their defensive line being either new to the league or at least at the position, Cushing joined the four of them in Iceland, where they practiced with an Icelandic semi-pro football team that formed as a result of Bjornsson’s fame, launching football to more prestige. The five practiced different blitz schemes, gap coverage, and finished off with a giant buffet. By the end of the trip, not only had they all put on a few pounds, they were a lot more prepared to improve the NSFL-last run defense. (S3) - Weekend PT #1 - Off-Season - RedCydranth - 09-09-2017 During the off season in Orange County, the Otters members often still hung out. Ricardo Sandoval, one of the top prospects in the NSFL, remained in Orange County for much of this off season because he hoped to be drafted back by the Otters. Marc Spector and Ricardo Sandoval trained a lot together, working on new techniques. Marc was never a super physical guy so he trued to pick up how to better block and press receivers at the line of scrimmage. In exchange, Spector showed Ricardo techniques on how to break off the line faster to get the edge on his opponent using speed. The two tirelessly worked on their game, and in the end, both felt they drastically improved their skills. When the two were not on the practice field, they often were still hanging around the Orange County locker room, with their snails. Snail racing had become quite a bonding experience for Spector and Sandoval. The two knew that there was a good chance that their days as team mates would soon be over, so they relished every race as competitors before they were forced to be competitors on the field as well. When Sandoval was drafted by the Hawks, Marc was the first Otter to message Ricardo congratulating him and wishing him luck in his new home.
