*Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - tlk742 - 09-19-2017 I think this is a really well thought out article, but I want to address the elephant in the room: holdouts. The DSFL being viewed as a unique league is a terrible layout, but a big problem the DSFL solves is NSFL rookies holding out because of the previous NSFL waiver system, it helps in the long run. *Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - iamslm22 - 09-19-2017 (09-19-2017, 04:44 PM)TheMemeMaestro Wrote:This is gonna sound hypocritical from me, but I feel like there needs to be protections for DSFL GM's I don't think it's hypocritical at all. It's smart to take advantage of rules, and you think those rules should be changed. That's fine. *Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - Jiggly_333 - 09-19-2017 DSFL hasn't even played its first games and its already getting trashed. *Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - Rindiee - 09-19-2017 (09-19-2017, 02:15 PM)Jiggly_333 Wrote:DSFL hasn't even played its first games and its already getting trashed. Well DSFL teams have been getting trashed by NSFL teams already :/. *Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - Bzerkap - 09-19-2017 (09-19-2017, 03:52 PM)PDXBaller Wrote:I think affiliate teams would make the most sense. It provides a pipeline for NSFL teams to groom and recruit for specific positions while maintaining an active player base for development in the future.Problem with affiliate teams is, who is the affiliate for the Outlaws and who is the affiliate for everyone else? Outlaws sent down like 6 actives. How do you handles trades? The Pierno situation would still happen. *Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - loco - 09-19-2017 (09-19-2017, 02:33 PM)Bzerkap Wrote:Problem with affiliate teams is, who is the affiliate for the Outlaws and who is the affiliate for everyone else? Again like you said and we are all emphasizing in our rant, it's just all to early and unorganized. No matter what side you are taking in this debate it's the facts. *Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - loco - 09-19-2017 (09-19-2017, 03:54 PM)Rindiee Wrote:It is most definitely a good way to get everyone involved with the league (especially mgmt). In terms of the league being unorganized? How can you say that is not the case? (Even though you agree with me I think most can at least agree on the basis of it being unorganized) *Why the DSFL is flawed: A Rant - Kris - 09-20-2017 Okay so while I can't address any of the communication issues simply because I wasn't there, it was the first ever DSFL draft and this league hasn't experienced that. Growing pains are normal and there are going to be issues when you implement something new. In my opinion, it just makes the league interesting and you have things to think about and to solve. There even was a list of available players (just checked the draft thread, IDK if it was there before) so I don't know how there were problems with that. Regarding Pierno. I think, it really was an unprecedent situation as well. He was originally on the Wraiths, as you know, and obviously, Orosz is a great QB and Pierno would have to work really hard to actually get playing time. So what is the solution so he doesn't lose interest and actually gets to play? Oh would you look at that, we just implemented the DSFL where rookies can develop! Nice, he gets playing time, we are happy with his development, everything's A-Okay. And then Noble gets punished for cheating and is suspended for the whole season. What do the Yeti do? Seems like their hopes for a successful future are pretty much trashed. But hey, the Wraiths have an active QB who isn't a starter, so they trade for him, and that makes sense. They logically call him up, because the Yeti needs a starting QB. Yeah, Coyotes get fucked because of that. But the Yeti got fucked too. Pierno happened to be one of those people who read that message when you sign up "IT WILL BE HARD TO GET A STARTING JOB IF YOU CREATE A QUARTERBACK" and said "fuck it", but got lucky in the end. Congratulations, Nicholas. Now, what happens in S4? Noble isn't banned permanently. He is suspended for only the S3 and he still has quite much TPE even without those 73 that he cheated. What if he comes back after the 2 week ban? He can still get TPE, now in a legal way, right? I don't know if the Yeti or, well, any team is going to be willing to take a chance with him again, but like I said, he still has lots of teps. Maybe Pierno gets sent back? On to the DSFL itself. I think the developmental league is a great idea which works in other sim leagues. I don't know if the rosters were already so full that we just HAD to create the DSFL right now, in S3, I think that waiting for just one more season would have resolved many of the problems and the teams wouldn't have to play with numerous bots, too. The gap between new players and the vets WILL be huge and D-League is a great place where to spend your first couple of seasons. Right now, that might be just one season, and that's fine. The league is only in it's third season. There's a long way to go before everything gets established as it is supposed to be. DSFL GMs are completely different from NSFL GMs. They have to find a way to success through draft, maybe trading for veterans or draft picks if a team wants immediate success or is planning for the future. The cycle will not be much longer than 2-3 seasons when a team that sucks can become dominant just because the roster gets revamped and I think that's beautiful. Of course, there can and there WILL be some turnover, but I think, if you really are a good GM, you can prove it by extensive pre-draft scouting, by making good moves. Eventually the league will, hopefully, be filled with players and you'll have guys to work with for a few seasons not just one. I think the call-up deadline should be on the same day as trade deadline. Maybe a day before. Just so if a NSFL team decides to call someone up, the junior GM can have time to make a move. That's just a quick idea. And I still don't understand the waiver system. Why can't we just have normal free agency? And, lastly, about drafts. I think it's perfectly fine as it is right now. A DSFL draft, the juniors get their draftees for at least one full season, and then the most active players in positions that are weak can earn a place in the NSFL. They will have to work for it. In near future NSFL will be strong enough so that new players will just have to spend at least 2 seasons in the DSFL. IMO, things will stabilize in the future. It just needs time. Sorry if my rambling went all over the place, when I touch a topic where I have things to say, I can go on for a long time, but I hope you got my ideas. ![]() |
