(S7) - Special PT - Changes - Beaver - 04-23-2018 ADDED: I'd definitely like to see more mass retirements because that day when Connor Tanner evilly and dastardly forced ~TOTALLY ACTIVE AND CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF THE LEAGUE~ into retiring against their will was by far the best day in league history so I think we should introduce some sort of mechanic for more mass retirements and the only thing more fun than mass retirements is randomness so I'd like to see every offseason each team's GM roll a d20 and have the result of that added to the number of games they won that season and then the team with the highest number picks another team to challenge and those 2 GMs decide how many players they want to risk getting retired (minimum 5) and the next day they roll a d20 and add the number of players they risked to the result and the higher roll gets a success this is then repeated the following day and so on until a team reaches 3 successes and rolling a natural 20 counts as 2 successes and rolling a natural 1 counts as 1 success and if one of the rolls is tied neither team gets a success and a random team is added to the proceedings and when one team reaches 3 successes the team with the least successes has to retire the number of players they decided to risk and double that many if they end up with zero successes. Code: 240 words REMOVED: So basically tampering rules suck and should be removed and let the league be a free for all of sheer anarchy when it comes to tampering and I know many GMs won't like that because muh players and such but if you're worried about other teams snatching up your players you should be a better GM but yeah I realize this won't happen but maybe GMs would be okay with having the final year of a player's contract be a free tampering period that seems like a pretty decent compromise to be honest and then we might see some actual events during the offseason as players might actually hit free agency - I know what a crazy idea right. Code: 118 words ME LIKEY: So there are a lot of things I like about the National Simulation Football League but probably my favorite thing is the New Orleans Second Line because it's a team full of goodboyes who sit around and meme all day so it really helps me get through the work day and also I like that Borkus Maximus III and Terrell Brister are engaged to be married because that's really sweet and tugs at my heartstrings even though I have a cold, black heart so if they can even make my heart hurt they're definitely doing something right I think we should have more New Orleans Second Lines in the league because that would make the league really awesome in my opinion. Code: 121 words (S7) - Special PT - Changes - Roly - 04-23-2018 ADDED: To add would be something along the lines of improving salaries in the same vein of discussion that is generally talked about across the league. I think that if its decided that these ridiculous low salaries are an issue (which they definitely are imo), then the solution has to reward players AND teams (since players are taking low salaries to help teams). I think OL bots could be the carrot or stick used here for either positive or negative reinforcement of spending to the cap. Perhaps teams are limited in individual OL spending to the median salary of 400+ TPE players. Maybe the difference of salary cap - player salaries is reduced from a OL budget. I think having teams purchase OL gives a tool for the league and head office to use to bat teams into healthier salaries. 139 REMOVED: I'd like to remove/alter how media is handled. I think it should switch from its historical "post-any words and get a proportional payout" that is common in most sim leagues. We should push for innovation in the media section. Maybe $$/word is still used, but with a multiplier given from a media grader for the quality of the content. Presser's can still be an easy source for players to get media money, but restrict other content into better tiers. There's some awesome innovative stuff that guys like Sapp does with draft combines or jersey sales that should be better rewarded. Limiting fluff and rewarding more engaging content would be the objective here. 112 LIKE: In general keep doing what's working. Lots of great stuff and having an engaged, communicative head office is a big part of what goes right in the NSFL. Everyone's mentioned the community, but you guys put in hella work on the site and league and in general keep things rolling smooth. Also props to the sim and stream folks for keeping things running there - its a lot of work, incredibly tiresome, and often mistake-ridden. Anyone who helps with sims ever knows that its almost impossible to get a clean one up. So congrats on keeping issues on that side to a minimum. 103 (S7) - Special PT - Changes - Raven - 04-23-2018 Quote:Written: Write 1 thing that you would like added to the league, 1 thing that you would like removed, and 1 thing that you currently like. Each part requires 100 words to be written to receive credit for it. Add: - Bring back trading cards tbh. I wish we still had these things, but I understand it was a lot of work and it kinda died out a little. Would be awesome to see them come back though. - Salary. I think we should look at contracts going up in tier as players progress. Right now you could sign someone for max years at the minimum their tpe level allows and that player could easily reach next tiers, while still being paid peanuts. This could be rewarding to teams who play aorund contracts wisely, but I would like to see contracts and cap mean something as it`ll add parity. - Recruiting. Reading through this PT I see some worries about the amount of active players. Activity was dipping a bit in the last few months, but looking at the post amounts in the last two AC's I`d say it is rising again. However I agree with recruiting more. The more the merry and the more is also healthy for the league. It`d be a shame if we would have to remove teams at one point, due to the player pools being too shallow to fill 8 teams. Remove: - I find it hard to think of something I would like to see removed. As I think we are in a pretty good state in the league right now. I think we should remove the PTT head, because he has clearly run out of ideas to keep PT's fresh  - The Baltimore Hawks. Hawks are pretty lame too be quite honest with you and I think the league would benefit heavily from a team with a better brand. Remove the Baltimore Hawks and replace them with the Baltimore Giraffes. Giraffes are cool and the future. I bet all the people who are visiting the site get turned off when they see a team with the hawk brand, but if they see a team rocking a giraffe brand they would be hitting that register button quicker then my standarts hit rock bottem when I`m drunk. Like: - The community we have on this site is great. I very much enjoy my time whenever I`m talking to one. My team locker room is lit, the general nsfl discord is lit and its the amazing people on this site that make this place a place to stay at. - The recent kicker changes. It's early in the season and I would hate to jinx myself, but kickers seem to be player more to their TPE levels which I very much like. I don't want low tpe kickers to be horrible, but I would like to see high tpe kickers being at the top of the pack and not being heavily outclassed by a kicker with big amounts less tpe then them. * On second thought pls buff kickers even more - The recent ideas to use social media more. Reddit and youtube could prove to be strong components in our recruitement drives and if we can build these into places where new members can also easily learn about the league would be great. (S7) - Special PT - Changes - Ramero - 04-23-2018 Add - I think that allowing customization of your starting archetype is something that the NSFL should consider integrating. If you look at the SHL, something that makes it unique is the ability to pick what your "strengths and weaknesses" are which allows for some customization of the archetype. This means that even if you pick the same build as someone else, there is room to feel like your own player. My proposal is allowing each user to select one strength, an attribute that can be upgraded at either a discount, or can go slightly higher than would normally be allowed by the archetype. Modify (Remove) - The NCT is something that I think had a lot of potential to turn out very well, but do to the amount of stuff going on in the league's off season it was completely thrown under the rug and it seemed as though most people didn't get a big opportunity to pay attention. I know that I for one am very interested in the success of the tournament and I would love to see it continue, but doing some changes to get users more engaged in the tournament (including consistent index updating) would be appreciated. Their is huge potential for it to be a major part of the sim community. Positive - I am a big fan of the amount of TPE that is up for grabs each season, and while it may seem like a very basic thing to talk about I think that it's one of the big positives of the league. The system is very similar to that of the SHL, and as we have seen in both leagues it's a system that works tremendously well. I think that the one downfall of the TPE system though is that it has a very steep incline for users who have the time to be active enough to write articles and purchase both weekly training and equipment through the season. This incline could be off setting to users that don't have as much time on their hands. (S7) - Special PT - Changes - dropbear - 04-23-2018 Added I would like to see better rewards implemented for podcasts or video media to encourage users to create that sort of content. Podcasts that do show up are almost universally loved, and I think it is that sort of media that gives the league a legitimate feel to it. If there were rewards that encouraged people to make more of this sort of content without sacrificing quality just to churn them out, I think the league as a whole would benefit. I would love to be able to listen to a podcast about the league, a specific team, or even an individual player every week without fail. Removed I’ve already touched on this in the suggestion box, but I really don’t agree with unrealistic position changes. I understand that the purpose of the league is to have fun, and if a player isn’t enjoying themselves it’s natural to want to switch, but the Boss Tweed move left a bad taste in my mouth. He’s a S1 player who was in conversations for the HOF as a running back and was the face of the Colorado Yeti franchise, then gets traded and is suddenly a linebacker? It spits in the face of the history of the league. I want people to have fun and stick around, but for the immersive users like myself (and I’m sure there are others), it just makes me wonder what the point is of becoming elite in your position if, hypothetically, a defensive end can suddenly become the league’s top receiver because he’s been around long enough? Kept Live sims. I don’t really think this was in question, but it really is the lifeblood of the league. Without the live sims, we’re just sort of talking about nothing. I don’t think people would necessarily cheat (beyond the normal cheating the league seems to attract), but without people being able to view their dots and their teams’ dots doing the things that the box score said they did, I think they would start to get frustrated and point fingers and make accusations. It’s surprising how attached I’ve gotten to my little circular #86 running around on the virtual field, and I’m sure other people feel the same way about their sim players. (S7) - Special PT - Changes - Titan127 - 04-23-2018 Added: easily accessible box scores and self-updating statsheets. -The stat sheets in the pages are very much annoying, as it is impossible to easily compare players within a team, with the setup preventing that. The pages should be able to compare players to their team, conference, and the entire league, as a whole, and box scores for games would be appreciated. Beyond that, while it would probably take a good deal of effort, it would be really cool if we could find a way to have the stat sheets update themselves immediately following the games, which would not only save everyone the time of updating them manually, but would make it easier to access them in the first place. Removed: Bots being studs -The bots in the sims for the offensive line are understandable in terms of need, but I would also argue that, if a GM fails to secure players for a position, then that position's player shouldn't be having much of an impact on a game, or should even be a liability. The TPE for bots should be somewhere between low-end starter and being a weak point of the team, in my opinion. It just doesn't make sense that months of work from a player is not always enough for them to overcome a bot that is custom built by GMs to the point that it might just be better to have mostly bots in some cases. Thing that I like: Locker rooms The locker room aspect, that being discord, for the most part, is what really gives this whole thing some life. Yes, it takes people away from the main website on many occasion, but getting to know the other players on the team makes this whole thing seem a lot more life like, to an extent. It adds a sense of duty, as well, to show up and perform for those teammates, akin to, even if it is not nearly as intense, that same feeling in real life on the field. So I love that, to be honest, and it has been the best part of this whole thing for me so far. (S7) - Special PT - Changes - nunccoepi - 04-24-2018 One thing that I would like added to the league would have to be the personality attributes. Part of this may come from my background in psychology which finds personalities inherently interesting. But I also think that this may add something to the league that can increase engagement through character depth and development (depending on the specifics of how they work). Who knows, it might even increase parity down the road? Again, I'm not entirely sure of how the personality attributes work, but I would interested to learn more about if it is something that we have studied very much and why don't use them in the first place. I think we may have to if we ever use DDSPF18. Also, just want to *add* my endoresment for two ideas that I've seen presented: Beaver's suggestion to remove tampering rules in the final year of the contract, and BenLongshaw's suggestion to limit position switches. I think both are reasonable and address real problems within the league. (166). As far as what I would like to see removed, I have already mentioned in previous media pieces, that I think a very large turn off for incoming prospects and (presumably) veterans alike is the way that members of the league will tend to jump on others when a mistake has been made or someone acts contrary to how they are expected. It's sort of like a ganged up response in which many people will jump on someone with a fierceness that doesn't exist otherwise. HO can choose to close off certain threads when things seem to be getting out of hand, but I realize that such a change is one of character/attitude and can't be easily legislated. Nevertheless, it's something that is concerning and just causes us to lose focus of what we are really all here for--to have fun. (142) Now, regarding the above paragraph, don't get me wrong--I don't think that the league or its members are at all unwelcoming. That's the weird part and why I truly think that it is an example of groupthink. I mention this because although I started in this league on a whim and was looking for some type of fantasy football experience, more than anything I've come to appreciate the camaraderie that is here. While I can't say I've grown really close with anyone in particular, I've talked one on one with a ton of people an I've found myself more and more attached to the community . It's unique, supportive, it makes me laugh and think, and I'm grateful for that. What's more, I'm not sure that this experience would be the same if the league were to double in size. Not that we shouldn't recruit (we definitely need to) just something to think about. (153) (S7) - Special PT - Changes - CDub2 - 04-24-2018 Added: A common thing so far, but a rule against salary cap circumvention, ie not paying the star players like star players. I'm not sure we necessarily need a minimum contract based off TPE, but maybe a "contract guideline based off of TPE, potential, and in game stats" would be really fun to set up. Not to name names (even the Wraiths are guilty of it) but some recent championship squads have been able to maintain their roster, and even add to it in most cases. In real life (I know, risky comparison), championship teams usually have to lose a couple guys because of the salary cap crunch. We rarely see it in the NSFL. This is accomplished by their star players taking minimum contracts. Now I understand, the star players have other sources of income, so they don't need a big contract and just want to help the team out. But it hurts the parity of the league and now wins are more correlated with which team has the most well paying jobs rather than which team has the best skill and strategy. 185 Removed: Position switches. Again, I get it. It's a simulation league and it's not real life. But we need to revamp the position switches. I get it for S3 when we were getting rid of OL and needed everyone to switch out. But we need to move on from the old system. Here's some thoughts I had: 1) Allow position switches but allow minimal (if any) TPE redistribution. So HB to WR would probably be okay and vise versa. DE to DT yes. LB to DE yes. CB to WR might even work. DE to HB, no way. OL to QB, no way. Keep realism, but allows flexibility for the user and the GM for roster work. 2) Allow position switches as is, but there's a half season or full season penalty. The could be accomplished a couple ways. A) after the switch, their experience in the sim goes to 0. If there's another stat in the sim like "Awareness", it should drop or maybe there's an Intelligence penalty. or B ) For half or a full season, the player who switched can only access 75% of their TPE. Then when the next season starts and they've played a full season at their new position, they have access to their full 100% TPE. To be honest, I think position switching alone would create some fireworks in this league. 1) Drafting would be revamped. Teams would draft for positional need rather than just who has the highest TPE and position switch them later. Also, if a team does draft best player available, it might cause them to trade positional surplus if they want to run with the rookie. Which leads to point #2 2) I believe trades would increase to fill gaps in rosters. Right now, if there's a hole, we just position switch someone over (looking at you Liberty QB) 3) Restricting position switches may solve the minimum contracts issue because teams will be much more aggressive in free agency if they don't think they can fill roster holes in the draft. ~300 Like: To be honest, the two points above are my two biggest issues. And the reason why I just wrote way over the 100 word minimum is because I'm passionate about this site. We all are. And that's the reason I like this site. We are all competitive, we all want to win, but deep down, we are all supportive of one another and we all want to see the site succeed and grow. It's very inspiring to be part of and that passion has produced some great projects by very driven people. Things like the NCT, the recruitment drives, the recruitment videos, the podcasts and others were all done because users wanted to do it (and to get paid some fake dollars). The HO has done an incredible job in the past couple of seasons to encourage creativity, transparency, and a great team environment. Really awesome improvements since I joined in S4. 145 (S7) - Special PT - Changes - majesiu - 04-24-2018 1 thing that you would like added to the league: - More ways to make money. I got pretty bored with making repetitive graphics (though I probably get back to it to afford equipment) and English is my second language, combine that with my limited football knowledge and writing articles gets tedious too, I'm invested in other sim leagues mostly, so I'd rather not stretch myself to thin taking a job. I loved the SHL videos payout, that was almost enough to buy most of the equipment when done on double payout. As for concrete proposals: add videos as media option with the huge two-scale (quarter payout, 3/4 quality) payout up to $8M. Another way would be some pension system or adding an even small amount of money for completing PTs. 1 thing that you would like removed: - Asipi and his useless banter, I have never seen him contributing to anything anywhere (besides signing some contracts as GM), maybe he is different behind the scenes, but the Outlaws were one team I didn't even want to be considered drafted by, it somewhat changed when co-GM was announced - run_CMC is great and I hope he will take General Manager mantle soon. From the short span of time I've been here, I thought you learned your lesson with Justice and how to treat trolls, but instead, it seems you decided to reward them. I really hope I'm wrong, but every interaction I have with him wherever he appears it seems like he just wants to stir some discontent. 1 thing that you currently like: - I like the streams with how short they are, but they definitely could use some improvement, have you considered increasing amount of games? 14 games seem really low, even if you account for football limitations as a sport. That has downsides with lower surprise factor, as more games mean bigger sample and less unpredictability. Another thing that is about streaming is that it would be great to see more transparency about the sim mechanics, I know Draft Day Sports has potato quality and I couldn't stand using it for more than a couple of hours (and it's saying much because I love sports sims), but It would be fun nonetheless to know more about it from simmer perspective. (S7) - Special PT - Changes - TheMemeMaestro - 04-24-2018 Something that I would like to see added to the NSFL is a system that rewards the younger players. Rebuilds are tough and it is often disheartening to see your team lose often. However, a good rebuilding team is a young team. In real life we see big jumps taken in a players career between their 1st and 2nd season for the most part. So I was thinking about a system of Career PT's that can only be done at certain points in a career. They have this in EFL and I feel it is a good benchmark to reach and help players at certain checkpoints in their careers. One could be right before they are drafted, one could be between their rookie and sophomore season, one could be after their 10th season (to help out the regression guys). There are many possibilities. However, something that I would like to see changed that already exists would be the way that the way that sims are announced in the discord. At the moment I am not currently able to watch sims mostly, they directly conflict with my swim. But very soon I will be able to again. And all that is announced is the sim is starting. Instead, I would like to harken back to the old days of the NSFL. It was commonplace for the teams to be tagged when their games started. Now, it just goes on without a mention of the teams. Some people do not care about other teams and instead only want to watch their own. We should help those people. I love so much about this site. Thats why my change was such a minor detail. I love the community the most though. The Yeti locker room has seen a revitalization into a group like family. Say what you want about how I have managed this team, many have, but I made something that the previous version of the Yeti did not. A brotherly connection in the Locker Room. And that is what keeps me active, keeps our team active. The captains (Supersquare, ExemplaryChad, JKortesi, and mmfootball) are an extension of sapp and myself and help keep the team together. The community is amazing and I love so many members here. There are some other members I like too that aren't Yeti. There are some scrub HO guys like iamslm, Dermot and Adam and especially that Dwyer guy (I know ur reading this, love you guys. Great work). There is bzerkap and some other cool GM's. There are even just some players that I really like. Wozy and PigSnout come to mind, but thats just because they are forever Yeti in my heart. |
