Since Venus Powers seems destined to eternally spend her days on offenses too awful to get into field goal range, it’s time to once again set her sights on Punter of the Year. She currently sits at 19 punts for 995 punts, 4 inside the 20, a long of 75 (!), and an average punt of 52.4 (!!!). Crisco who? The all-time single season punt average record is Turk Turkleton’s 50.9 mark from S5, and although Powers doesn’t expect to remain on 52.4 pace for the entire season (although that would be wonderful) she only needs to keep a 48.9 clip to crack the top ten all-time. Of course, there’s the slight issue of McDairmid’s 53.2 average currently being even higher than her own, but Powers is confident that she’ll end up on top, mainly because I really couldn’t handle the heartbreak of breaking a league record and being upstaged at the same time so I’m desperately hoping Matty regresses. Meanwhile, on the kicking side of things, it looks like the only record Powers has available to her is “least kicking attempts per year”, which she has on lockdown. Her goal for the rest of the season will be to take back the volume AND efficiency crowns for punter and hopefully win Punter of the Year again. Making the playoffs would be a nice surprise.

Looking at the future of my career in the NSFL can sometimes feel daunting. I don’t entirely know what's in store for me, and I still have so many questions. However I think if there was someone I’d want to embody for seasons to come, is the late Gimmy Jaroppolo. I think being able to garner that kind of notoriety is impressive. To be so well known and highly regarded is what I truly aspire for in the NSFL. I want to be the kind of leader that Jaroppolo was. I want to be able to put my team on my shoulders and not worry about anything else. Having spent some time with Gimmy before his untimely passing, I got to see firsthand what it meant to be a leader. To have that kind of presence in the locker room is truly inspiring. I hope to one day be the kind of player that kids look up to. To be the guy everyone pretends to be in backyard football games. I’ve got a long way to go before I get there, but I’ll do whatever it takes. At the end of the day, I need to first be the best player I can be.

Now this is a topic that was just made for me. You know that Kacey has some big Dreams this season! I came into the season with the same personal goal that I have had the last two seasons and that is to be top 5 in interceptions and passes defended at the end of the season. The first step of that goal is to get my first career interception which I am happy to say I achieved in week two! Not only that I returned it for a touchdown. Another goal that I have is to win some awards. I almost made the pro bowl last season and that would be a wonderful start but I would love yo win Defensive Back of the year or even Defensive Player of the Year. My final goal is to return at least one punt or kickoff for a touchdown this year. I returned a punt for a touchdown in the preseason so I know I am capable. My team goal is to finally win the Ultimus. I have won an Ultimini but never an Ultimus. We were so close last year, I have a good feeling that this is the year we bring home number nine for the Orange County Otters.

Every kid who plays football has a dream of playing in the Ultimus and winning it. I, for one, also have the same dream. I failed to even make it to the playoffs and ultimately, the Ultimini, last season when I played for the Luchadores in the DSFL. It was a disappointing season, to say the least, as I was hoping to at least achieve something team-wise as I was not accomplishing much individual-wise. Just being in the locker room during a playoff game would have been insanely fun and exciting. But alas, it was not meant to be for Tijuana. Well, the playoff does not seem to come anytime soon for me as my NSFL, the Butchers, are winless and dead last in the league. It was quite expected as we are rebuilding and my teammates and I are working hard to improve ourselves individually to eventually become a force in the league. So with the Ultimus and the playoffs pretty much out of reach, I set myself a realistic goal for this season. Well, two goals actually. Given my increased playing time now that I’m with Chicago, I want to have at least 5 rushing touchdowns this season. I was able to get two in my DSFL season but getting touchdowns in the NSFL has proven to be much harder. I have zero as of now but I believe I’ll be able to reach my target of 5 touchdowns. My second goal is to have at least 500 rushing yards. I had 78 rushing yards with Tijuana last season so I want to at least get more than that. So far I’ve accomplished that and with Chicago’s improved O-line play, I’m confident I can get that 500 rushing yards. I’ll be going back to this post at the end of the season and see how I stack up against these goals.

Starting his NSFL career as a backup running back, KKM has learned to tamper his expectations for this season. While he's used to producing at a high level, he will need to be prepared to play second fiddle to Ruff Ruff for at least his first season in the league. However, he's got a good relationship with QB Corvo Havran, and is looking forward to contributing in the passing game as a rookie. So far, his stats have been average, and he doesn't seem to be a major player in the rookie of the year race. As opportunities increase for KKM over the season and in his career, he has set a goal of 5 pro bowls in his career and an eventual hall of fame career as an offensive gadget player.

It doesn't seem like he's set his goals too high, as he's seen the success that Ashley Owens has had with Austin and Colorado, and hopes to emulate his career or even exceed the heights that Owens has reached. Honolulu is fielding a respectable team in his rookie season and they will look to build upon that success in coming seasons. Once Havran hangs em up, look for KKM to really come into his own as a player and for his career to flourish.

It's a bunch of new things for me this season, going to a new team that just started their new franchise. This season I want to be the team leader in either sacks or tackles for losses, getting my name in record books for Honolulu would be great. Something else I would like to accomplish this season is becoming an All Star, I've never been to close to becoming one but with being on a new team I hope I can get the stats to become one. Being that this is a new team I want to help the team go as far as possible in the first season. Will we make the playoffs this year? Probably not but that doesn't mean we can't make a few teams in the West sweet a little bit. Another stat I'm trying to accomplish this season is get double digits in either sacks or tackles for loss, considering those are the two major stats for DLinemen each double digits would prove that I'm starting to become a force in this league. I would like to see someone from the #SackSquadron win an award as well. We have this rookie DT that is almost as good as he says he is, I hope he can cause enough disruption to win the DROY award.

This year I want to get over 1,000 yards with my player Mike Lee. Last year was a pretty disappointing season where I was stuck down in the 300s or so, so I was rather displeased. This season I am capped out for a DSFL player and am already off to a solid start. I think that I can end up being the best receiver in the DSFL, so that is another goal of mine. I want to be one of the best out there and I think that is my ultimate goal this season. Another one of my goals for the new season is to just be the best teammate possible in the Dallas and Yellowknife locker rooms. It can be weird being on two teams, but I want to be attentive to both and pay attention to the sim to see what I need to improve on and what the Wraiths are going to end up needing from me. I think that if I am able to be great in the DSFL while taking care of my business to get ready for the NSFL, I will be set up to not only succeed this season, but for all of the seasons to come in my career. This could be a career defining season.

This new season is an important one for Otis. Coming into the league as the second overall pick in the season 21 draft, Allen had the eyes of the entire league on him. Getting drafted that high means that your team has high expectations for you. It also means that the team that drafted you probably didn’t do too well in the year before and is looking for a big talent to get them back on track. This wasn’t necessarily the case with San Jose for the defensive tackle position leaving the season 21 draft, but it certainly is now. Otis Allen was drafted onto a team with two veterans on the defensive line in Freezer Riposte and Brayden Ennis. He was placed in the defensive end position to fill a need, but figured he’d have ample time to learn from his teammates next to him. This would turn out a bit differently than expected. At the beginning of season 22, the veteran defensive tackle Freezer Riposte was claimed from San Jose in the expansion draft. Now, three games into the season, Brayden Ennis has announced his retirement after this season. This leaves Allen as the main contributor on the defensive line. This season will be a defining one for Allen’s career, and will be pivotal in San Jose’s attempt to get back in the running for another Ultimus trophy.

Richard Gilbert is set up in a position to have a strong year in the DSFL this season. Being only one of three capped running backs in the league, Gilbert should be an early favorite for many people to have the best season. After falling just short of 1,000 yards in S21 while playing backup to Ed Barker, Gilbert looks to break that thousand yard mark in the current season, while also improving upon his already impressive ten touchdowns scored in S21. While one thousand yards and ten touchdowns are his statistical goals this season, the more lofty achievement I’ll be shooting for is to win running back of the year, if not offensive player of the year.

As far as for the Tijuana Luchadores as a whole, our hope is that this is our year to win the championship. Looking at league-wide rosters we think we might have one of the best, if not the best, offense. Our defense right now isn’t quite where we want it to be since we have fewer send downs there than on offense, but we had a very defense heavy draft which could shape up to being very strong by the end of the season. While our first two games were both pretty disappointing losses, I truly believe they can be summed up as bad sim luck, considering our team looks a bit better than Norfolk and significantly better than London. I look forward to see what happens over the next few games.
