It's just a pet peeve of mine when people assume you need to be earning 150 TPE a season and be at 400 TPE or more to even have a chance of playing and I try to make sure people know that it isn't the case. I want casuals to be in this league, there is always room for them to contribute. But we need more of all levels of players from max earners to casuals.

Agree with everything you said here

@caltroit_red_flames I think you are too low on the S12 class, which we've only seen the beginning of. Over the last couple of classes, over half of the draft class created after the playoffs were done. Considering the season isn't done, I'd say we are on pace for about 25 or so prospects. Combined with the huge haul from this year, and we are actually going to be doing just fine, better than the league began with, really, since now we have OL bots.

Also, TC makes a good point that some positions require more or less TPE to be useful. We have some semi-active DL coming in that will have solid careers.

So S11 is huge because we started PT Afflliation with SHL, and S12 is going to be moderately big because S1 players are retiring and recreating (if you look at the current S12 players they are nearly all recreates). What happens for S13 if we don't start recruiting?

Quote: It's not hard for each of us to get one player, and if we do that the league could double in size.

Sounds like a Pyramid scheme to me.... I dunno...

But I do agree that we can all try to get someone in the league. Westfield brought me in, and I've advertised the league on my Facebook page and a Fantasy Page on Facebook. Anyone I got to come stayed for a bit and left. BoltyMcSpeedy comes by on occasion but his RL is pretty busy so he's a casual player at his peak.

The main complaint I get, from people who've never done a sim league before, are turned off by the aspect of having to write to get money/TPE. Being unable to shit out media, or Point Tasks to make your player better is a turn off to a lot of folks. Not saying we need to change it, just being factual. "So, your player doesn't get better by playing in games? That's dumb." is the general response when I have explained the process. It's hard to disagree with, from an outside logical standpoint. Julio Jones doesn't get better as a receiver by moonlighting as a reported for the Atlanta Newspaper (that I know of.)

I know there's other ways to make money, like getting league jobs. But in order to get one, you have to be familiar with the league, and know you like it enough to stay around. Most people aren't going to come here to try to see if they like it, and apply for a job here not knowing if this site is for them or not. Most people with league jobs have been here a good long while. Others, who are new and get jobs early, are likely from other sim leagues and know how they are run.

I don't have a "fix" for this. Just stating the hurdles I've encountered when trying to recruit for us in the past.

To be honest I hate writing media. I wonder if we could implement something like having your player improve based on stats...

Yeah, I'll second all of these points. I've brought in 3 or 4 players now, none of whom made it to 150tpe. Maybe not even 100. I can only do so much encouragement before its not worth damaging a relationship with a irl friend/relative. I do hear that its work to write for PT and at the beginning I didn't understand it either (although now i just accept it).

There are two more friends/relatives that might be interested, but I've heard from both of them: that sounds awesome, but I know that I would just spend way too much time with that.

So based off of my limited anecdotal experience, it seems like some of our first timers who don't make it might fall into two categories: sure I'll try it out (before fizzling out), I would be a active and contributing member but maybe too much so.

I don't know how much this adds to the conversation, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway just in case.

I think you're right but I think you're missing one other factor, why are we failing to retain while the SFL isn't? Why are certain leagues growing but not ours? it's not something I have the answer for, but I think it's more than recruiting, I think if anything retention should be our focus rather than recruiting.

We had milestones and they were frustrating as hell, especially for defensive backs, where the better you are the fewer stats you get (or at least the better defense/ offense team combo the less defensive opportunities you have).

A really good article will try to use some points, maybe not necessarily here, but still.

I don't know other leagues as I'm not in them, but I've heard we have a lot less drama. And from what I've read back into posts before I joined the league, it seems like we haven't had a lot of serious drama in a while. Serious question: does league drama keep players involved or even possibly attract new ones? Like that's literally how our global media system works. People wouldn't pay nearly as much attention to things like politics or even tragedies if the media wasn't literally making things up to incite outrage. Not saying that we should go ahead and start drama here (unless its a good kind), but it might be an explanation.

EDIT: As an example, think about the league activity and interest there was around the whole RocNation thing. People were out refreshing tabs like crazy, I'm sure. Shenanigans like that are good for the league.
