(S15) PT 2 - Absolute Power - oz3700 - 05-20-2019 It is 8am. My alarm is set for 10:30 because I am not a morning person, yet I find myself waking up from a dream. I was at the 20 about to get my first pick 6 in the final seconds to win the Ultimini. One can only hope. Anyway it was from the GM and at this hour you know it is important. I answer to the phone to hear heavy breathing. I quickly ask if he is okay over what sounds like a man who has just run a marathon. After a long pause he begins to explain his stomach is currently fighting off last nights chicken tikka and is losing bad. The request was simple. Fill in for him in doing the opening pitch at the local baseball game. The appearance is important to get the word out about the league, so being a no show at the game would be horrible PR. I was all in. My days as a little league MVP pitcher under the name Jack “Gunslinger” Rambo had prepared me for this moment. The time is now 5:30pm and the sun is shining. I have my custom SeaWolves jersey and the ball in hand just waiting for my name to be called from the dugout. This what is amazing about playing professional football. These special moments. I now hear my name and I walk up to the mound. This is it. I setup for the pitch. I throw and like a high school kicker from Alaska during a snow storm that ball is wide right. I mean SC not top ten type stuff here. I guess all PR is good PR. For now I’ll stick to football. Interesting question. For one he'd embezzle funds. Maybe not immediately, but eventually that would be on the to do list. Until then he'd work on scouting and preparing for the expansion draft. Players no one expect to be available will become available either before, during, or after the expansion draft depending on the choices we see from the expansion GMs. Not only after the season either. As NSFL sides realize that they could potentially lose pieces in the expansion draft, and that they won't be able to protect everyone, watch for players to start moving leading up to the trade deadlines. This won't be a normal tanking scenario either, the contenders could be involved in making moves as well. Besides that, Landers would probably look into getting back into the first round in this year's NSFL draft. It seems like we'll see some very talented players taken in the first 2 rounds this year, but some of the draft's top prospects have already declared that they won't sign a deal unless it's with the team of their choosing, and will likely fall because of that. One thing you can be certain of is that this will be one of the most entertaining offseasons in a long time. But as it turns out he’s taken the day off and given total control over to me, Jimmy Dugan. We don’t need to change players around or anything, team wise we’re exactly where we want to be right now. But I’ve got some changes to make to the club now that there’s no one around to check my impulses. First off, I’m installing a bar in my office complete with two kegs and taps, one of Guinness and one of Budweiser, so I’ve got options depending on how I’m feeling. Second, the “No Naps at Work” rule is hereby officially lifted and permanently banned from being discussed again. Third, I’m installing a lock on my office door. “Hey, I’m the GM of a football team, want to come check out my office?” makes a great pickup line, and the fact that I can’t take full advantage of that without risking someone walking in is a damn travesty. In addition, from now on, no one is allowed to ask me what’s in my thermos during practice. Tijuana is a fantastic football team already, but with these changes, we can create a positive work environment for everyone. Mostly me, but everyone else too. I would yell at all the players making them give me laps and pushups and even chin ups. Of course this is all while I sit comfortably in a lawn chair as the Baltimore cheerleaders fan me with palm branches and make me the most delicious pina coladas i have ever tasted. Fresh coconuts cracked open in front of me and the coconut meat shaved straight into my mouth. The team chef will be asked to cook a roast slowly over an open flame so that the juices are the sweetest ever. When I'm finally satisfied that all my teammates have completed their expected training they will be allowed to join in on the food and drinks. Except Brown. He will be trash boy and kitchen clean up duty. This is to ensure he doesn't get too conceited with his fame and talent. I then give each player a half million dollar raise as I renegotiate Nunc’s GM contract to zero. I also put in a team contract clause that the Fab V will be signed together upon the 7th year of our career. Finally I give slm his dream, the chance to open a brand new player agency based right out of Baltimore. (S15) PT 2 - Absolute Power - plantane - 05-22-2019 Taking over for the Pythons would be a tough job. As the reigning Ultimini champions, the team has some big shoes to fill and early in the season, it is very clear that it is no easy task. As interim GM, it is fair to say that the defense only needs to continue doing what it has been doing. As the number 1 defense in the DSFL by most metrics, the defense is clearly firing on all cylinders and delivering when it really matters. However, some major changes need to be incorporated to really get the offense rolling. While I would be restricted to only one day in charge, I would try some more exotic offensive schemes to see if Armstrong and the offensive squad could make it work. Even if they don't perfectly memorize or execute the unconventional gameplans, if we can see a flash of something, we could use it moving forward to keep to offense fresh and hard to stop. With such a strong backfield and a struggling receiving corps, integration of more play-action plays and maybe even a few wildcat plays could really spark something on the offense. My day as GM would spent trying my hardest to find what really could work on the offensive side of the ball. Ultimately, if by the end of the day nothing seems to have clicked on offense, I would even consider proposing a trade with one of the other DSFL teams to try to snag a promising receiver. If necessary, I might be willing to offer one of the pieces of the outstanding defense, as the team seems to be a little unbalanced at the moment. |
