I'll admit, it has definitely been difficult forgetting last season. I mean, we won the Ultimus against one of the toughest teams in league history. I don't think that is something you ever truly can forget. But, we also can't live in the past, because when a new season starts, every team is tied. It doesn't matter what we did last season; it's all about what we do now with the current team we have. I believe the ability to move on to every new game and new season with a fresh style and attitude relies heavily on an individual's mental toughness, which is why I spent this past off-season focusing primarily with working on my mental skills, studying and improving my overall football knowledge so that I can start this season with an all new sense of presence and awareness on the field. I can't let the past make me overconfident for the future, because I will lose my focus on and off the field. So, for me personally, it's not necessarily as much about forgetting the past season as it is not letting those memories effect who I am and how I approach the field each and every gameday. I feel like remembering the past will actually help everyone on the team maintain this great teamwork that we have, as long as we don't let it get to our heads.

After ending season 18 on a sour note, with a devastating 31 to 0 loss to the Baltimore Hawks, the Yeti players took a well deserved break from each other to clear their heads and prepare for the next season. Louisiana Purchase spent the offseason fishing in Wyoming. Mo Berry claims he went to wrestle bears. James Bishop apparently spent most of his time still at the Yeti practice facility and in the film room. Pete Parker returned to his home town of New York City, to "get back to web slinging", whatever that means.

However, as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder, so it wasn't long before the team began to look forward to returning to the field. Especially once free agency rumors began to swirl and the first domino fell, the signing of star running back Ashley Owens, the Yeti took the opportunity to welcome their newest teammate. Wolfie McDummy rented a mansion in Aspen (he can afford it) and took out the who team on a ski trip. Upon return, even more news broke with the signing of Alex Hornbacher. Not wanting to leave Hornbacher out of the festivities, the team had one more big get together, a huge feast put together by Bubba Thumper. Afterwords, Thumper commented "Huh? No, that was a normal amount of food for me."

Well I had a very fresh starting with moving to a new team. It was sad leaving Portland, especially after winning and Ultimini and being award DBoTY and DPoTY. But it was also exciting to come back to the team that gave me my start in the DSFL, even if they did look a little different. From the moment I first stepped foot back on the good ship Myrtle Beach I was welcomed with open arms and much grog. Apparently they had decided to put their less than ideal season out of their memories by partying for a straight fortnight. And by god was I happy to join in!! The wenches were prevalent, the rum flowed and the days blended together. By the time that we regained conciousness( we ran out of booze eventually) we were stupified to see that we had many new teammates, and they were all quite good! I'm not sure when exactly they joined us, or how seeing as we were out at see, but we were overjoyed to have them join us nonetheless. New hope has dawned over our humble ship as we are looking to remake Myrtle Beach into the new DSFL dynasty. Look out Tijuana, make room Portland. Here come the Buccaneers.

Austin McCormick has been very busy. For one, he got drafted to Nola, so he has spent a lot of time moving. Like a lot of time moving. He literally just moved last year, and it was about the same distance. Training wise, McCormick has finally stopped pumping his speed. He feels like he is about as fast as he can get, and his coaches agree. Now they have him pumping some iron and hitting the books. Like really doing those two things. If you think McCormick was really focusing on speed, you haven't seen anything yet. Austin also spent a lot of time getting to know New Orleans and Bourbon Street. See, McCormick had never been to the city. Hell, he had barely been to Louisiana. He thinks he drove through once? Anyway, the team took him out for a good time. Bjorn talked about how he was almost shot going down this one street. Austin made a note to not go down there. Bode showed him around, and Austin was surprised how many people let a bear into their place of business. Almost too much. So when Austin wasn't pumping iron, reading books, or learning the city, Austin was getting lit with the team. He even got them all to do a "TE GANG GANG GANG" chant.

Last year was a really tough one in some ways. I know that seems weird to say when we were the second best team in the league, but I think that also encapsulates it in a way. The people and players in Yellowknife have been waiting for a championship for so long and after getting so close and having our own curse break us yet again, it really dampened our spirits. Looking back on the offseason though, I think we went about lifting our spirits and mentality the right way. The first thing was to let everyone go off on their own for two to three weeks. This was to let everyone blow off steam get through any heartaches and demons in their own way and on their own time. After everyone was able to do this, we then all started training camp at the same time. Some might feel that we were not given a long offseason, but our ‘training camp’ was not really your usual stuff you see. The first few weeks were firmly focused on team bonding. We of course have a great group of players here in Yellowknife, but after a tough loss like we had, it was good to get everyone on the same page and making sure that we give 110% to each other, to make sure we are in the best position to win this season. One of the most memorable days was when we went to the biggest theme park in Yellowknife, Spookyville and were able to almost nonstop ride the main attraction, The Spookycoaster. Overall I was happy with how we put the loss behind us and are ready for the new season!

(S19) - PT1 - A Fresh Start - Kyle - 12-03-2019

Kyle Idlewyld arrived in Tijuana wearing a lucha mask which he assumed was the normal local attire. He headed toward the training facility as instructed, still wearing the mask since he was to stubborn he made a mistake. When Kyle arrived everyone just assumed he was showing team spirit and loved it. That's when he realized Luchadores was the team mascot and that Tijuana was indeed not a city full of Mexican professional wrestlers. Thank god! it was difficult to practice in that mask.
After the first day of camp the rookie decided to hit the bars and see what the non-wrestling locals are like. That's where he met a couple brothers that ran a local family business, something to do with transport. They called it "Sinaloa Cartel". Idlewyld had no clue what it meant, maybe he should brush up on his Spanish. After a solid hour of listening to Kyle brag about being a first round pick between throwing back shots and tacos, one of the brothers offered the young defensive end something that would help him train and play harder. It was a small bag full of a white powder. Kyle asked if this was some sort of smelling salt they only made in Mexico and the brothers laughed and said yes it was something like that, just use it before the game. So with a solid team, hard work and a magical secret Mexican potion Kyle Idlewyld was positive all his predictions would come true.
