*In Memoriam: Marc Spector - Oles - 02-28-2020 Marc Spector was one of my favorite guys from the Season 2 draft class. I've always had a lot of respect for him, and then when he made his original post about his condition and what revolves around it I remember how it hit me, it's so easy to forget about real world issues while we're taking part in the sim league and making these characters, for some of us this is an escape from a mundane world, for others it can be the only light they have while they're suffering. For him to openly discuss it, and to share his story with us, it was very powerful to me. He made it clear he didn't have much time left, and that he would decide to spend it on here, something that many would see as a waste of time, something that many people would wonder why you'd care about something like this when the real world is knocking on your door, it shows that even if it might be a waste of time, if it's something you enjoy and something you want to do you should go out and do it. For me, probably my best memory and interaction with him was 2 years ago to this day. I was on Old School Runescape at the time, and he messaged me out of the blue, a simple message just saying "Runescape? Really? LOL". After that, we had a long conversation which led to him telling me about another MMO, Albion Online. After some discussion I hopped onto it, and we spent a good amount of time with him just teaching me about the game and showing me stuff with it. The first message was at midnight, and when I got off it was 2am. He took 2 hours to help me with a game that I'd never play again, and had never played before, he gave me some great explanations and it was fun to experience something knew with his guidance. He was a great person, and when I woke up today to 4 alerts from NSFL discords, I wondered what had happened, and when I saw the media in the same tag my heart dropped. I felt devastated, even though I didn't have the most interaction with him, and wasn't all that close with him, it shocked me when I found out about this. His message is one that will always resonate with me. He was a great person, a great sim league member, and a great part of the season 2 draft class, he will be missed. *In Memoriam: Marc Spector - jeffie43 - 02-28-2020 First of all, if anyone affected by this news (or in general) needs someone to talk to I'm here for you. Second of all, even though it is truly devastating news, it's important to remember that Marc is in a better place now. I never had the pleasure of knowing him but his presence will definitely be missed. His positive influence has clearly left a mark on a lot of people in the community and it is truly sad that we have lost a valued member of our community, a mentor, and above all, a friend. *In Memoriam: Marc Spector - SwagSloth - 02-28-2020 Heartbreaking news. Rest in peace, man. *In Memoriam: Marc Spector - Jiggly_333 - 02-28-2020 I've been thinking about it all day and while this league has always been filled with controversy and drama, Spector was one of those guys who was never involved. And he was always accommodating to everyone. When I decided that my GM character was going to be a woman, he rolled up right next to me with his own female GM character. It was such a small thing like that that was really incredible to me. And when I fired him for what in the end were my own mistakes, he took it in stride and forgave me for it. I don't know who he was outside of this league, but we've seen time and time again that there are people who sometimes use the anonymity of the internet to be assholes here and Spector was someone who refused to do so. It's so rare to find someone like him and it's truly sad that he's gone. Funerals and eulogies are for the living, so I guess I hope that Westy and everyone else in Spector's life find comfort in knowing that no matter how small, no matter how obscure of a difference he made to our lives, he made a positive difference for the people he came in contact with in his life. I remember during the times I'd play on voice chat, he said one of his favorite bands was REM and I might be wrong, but I think he said this was his favorite song from them. Even if it isn't, I'm sure he'd enjoy it just the same: [iframe width=\\\"560\\\" height=\\\"315\\\" src=\\\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/dLxpNiF0YKs\\\" frameborder=\\\"0\\\" allowfullscreen][/iframe] |
