Remove/up the limit on graphics submissions - RavensFanFromOntario - 07-16-2017

I like the current system of both graphics and articles, especially if we can just submit the next week's thing if the creative stuff is flowing. Also maybe graphics should pay a little higher. Looking at weekly point tasks it's pretty obvious that most people prefer doing articles over graphics. Right now the pay encourages people to get out of their comfort zone. Not everyone is a graphics veteran, and I know I sure as hell won't be participating in contests especially if it only pays the winner, but the current system actually made me make a few graphics and I think I did alright with em, so I'd like to continue trying to make things.

I would 100000000000% do graphics if I had the skill/knowledge.

Why does GFX participation need to be something that can be "filled" in a week? Why can't GFX participation just be as much as you want any given week? I just ask that the participation aspect be the same as media participation. There's no limit to length or number of articles you can post in a week.

As for this point, I believe that unlimited GFX would be too easy to abuse at the lower end. People could pump out mediocre GFX and receive as much money or even more money than somebody spending more time who creates fewer GFX at a higher level.

We wouldn't be able to tell for sure what is a purposeful lack of effort vs. what is someone who just isn't that good at GFX yet, who is trying to improve vs. who settles for mediocrity to maximize monetary gains.

Some people wouldn't see a point in improving and trying to create at the highest level possible. Why spend 30 minutes on a great piece when you can make a mediocre piece in 10 minutes and get the same payout?

Now of course we could just make better GFX worth more money, so that submitting a bunch of trash wouldn't make one better off than a few good pieces, but that brings back the fact that GFX is highly subjective, and it would be hard to define what good work is (similar to our issue with the 1-5 scale).

People could abuse this system and turn GFX into a printing press. While I would love to allow people to submit as much as they want, right now it would be much too easy to abuse.

If anybody can think of a way to allow unlimited GFX without being able to break the system, I'd love to hear.

Why does this always have to be graphics vs written media? Shouldn't we all want to make it fair and easy for everybody to earn fake money for their fake players?

If you want to play the game of numbers, I'll take my own situation as an example: I completed over 30 requests since the League started. I'm able to pay for my training and equipment was super cheap for S1. I had roughly 16M in my account at the beginning of this season. Now I spent freaking 12M on equipment and I have enough to pay for 4 other weeks of training. It's like if I had to do 30 requested articles to cover my expanses for the season. I also have a job as head on the forum which just makes this situation even more ridiculous. I think I make my part.

You can't just decide to add stuff that's more expansive and not give a fair chance to everybody to buy it. Do you want to make the League fun or a chore?

We can argue that articles bring more activity to the forum all day but graphics are a part of the NSFL too. You can also say that with the autograde, it's easier for people to cheat and submit total crap... yeah, it's true, but why should people who actually spend time on every sig they make be punished? Isn't that what the graders are for? Not give full pay to people who obviously spent 2 minutes on a sig? If someone is very good and can make something decent in 2 minutes, then good for them.

Just my 2 cents on this situation as a pretty active graphics maker on this forum.

I'll second this as a graphic maker too. There's ways to cheat any system, but I hate writing so it gives me an option.

At the same time, forcing a quality control route doesn't work. We are a simulation community with a graphics option, not the other way around. We don't have graphics battles, SOTW tournaments and tutorials at the ready, nor should we (maybe the first for kicks) because it doesn't make sense. I know I can game the system, but at the same time, I don't like putting in half-baked options, I'd rather put in something that I am proud of than nothing at all. I'm sure others are the same, by keeping the rates equal we give everyone a fair chance, and if they want to improve, there are guides out there, but it's not a graphics and we shouldn't function as one.

Add requested league graphics (do one Sig for a rookie, etc) with bonuses.

This is actually a good idea.
