HO Newsletter - Beginning of S23 - Thor - 06-15-2020

I can appreciate the efforts to keep everything balanced and understand this would have been a difficult issue to present to everyone regardless of how it was handled.

I hope that regular weekly predictions can make a return, as it's an excellent way to help new users and veteran users alike to stay active and engaged on the forums on a regular basis. Understanding that the goal of PTs is to entertain and engage users, I fail to see how trivia is a better option to achieve that than predictions.

While I commend HO and everyone involved in making these tough decisions, I'd implore everyone to consider adjusting PTs/predictions again in the future to focus on promoting community engagement. Perhaps trivia could remain a part of this, as a twice per season event with reduced TPE gain, or we could remove participation TPE from that and season predictions/mock drafts - I'm not sure of what the best solution is here, but I'd like for us to keep an open mind and continue to work on it going forward.

Really disappointed with the TPE changes. I'm already struggling to find time for the point tasks each week and often have to skip them. Predictions on the other hand can be done even if I have a busy and stressful week at work. I would have loved to see it the other way round (more predictions, less PT), because with this I'm going to lose out on a lot of TPE. Simply because I have a real life to take care of...

As I said yesterday in Discord, cutting predictions and increasing PTs is just the stupidest move ever in the history of moves.

Predictions - Makes every game fun to watch and makes watching with friends even better. It's the only fun task.

PTs - Hey dude write 200 words and forget about even doing it till someone posts a claim link in discord.

Trivia - Get a Discord Ping with the link to the trivia thread + all 3 answers. Send a pm and wait.

PTs and Trivia both take ages to get graded. Trivia are a nice idea imo but let's be honest no one gives a shit about the answers. They just get posted in discord and people copy them. I completed trivia about 5 minutes ago and I don't know a single question because there is just no need to engage with that task.

Super glad to have 5 PT Passes this season otherwise I would have to do the tedious task and write another 200 words. PTs can be fun don't get me wrong it it's a good topic it's fine. But most of the time no one gives a shit about what someone else wrote and is just in there to get that tpe.

Reducing the fun part of the league and increasing the tedious part is not good guys.

You could always limit the amount of TPE we could gain with predictions.
I stated in discord that TPE gains with predictions could be on a scale.
Predictions - first 2 or 4 games 0.5 TPE next 2 or 4 0.25 TPE each.

Choosing this direction is the easy and simple way out and it just doesn't seem you guys put any thought into that decision at all.

Those are just my two cents

Edit: Just want to clarify I'm not a native speaker so if anything sounds offending it isn't meant that way, sorry!

there's a vast difference between disliking the idea that was chosen out of the 3 that were proposed and accusing people of not even thinking about the decision

I never accused them of not thinking about it, I said it seems like they didn't - because there are 100% better ways to stop the tpe inflation. Either way that statement doesn't make my other points less valid.

Besides that, it's pretty early and I'm only at my 2nd coffee so sorry in advance if I'm just blind. But why can't we see the other 3 proposals? Why not let the league decide what they want in such a huge decision? I get it HO is important and all and they tried their best and want the best for us. But a decision like this could've been handled by a league wide vote.

HO Newsletter - Beginning of S23 - Memento Mori - 06-16-2020

Wasn’t particularly bothered about the PT changes when the newsletter was posted but after reading the responses I don’t think this was the right move. If the goal of PTs is to keep people engaged then trivia should’ve gone/been reduced, not weekly predictions.

Last season I would make my picks for Monday’s games, check how I did in Tuesday’s claim post and add it to my update, make my picks for Wednesday’s games, check how I did in Thursday’s claim post and add it to my update, make my picks for Friday’s games and then add the TPE to my update post the following update. As well as getting me on the site more often, weekly predictions had me paying more attention to the league and more attention to teams that weren’t mine.

My approach to trivia would be: trivia thread gets posted, I wait for someone else to supply the answers, I send the answers and then wait often a week or two for a post in the claim thread.

Trivia gets people on the site less, doesn’t provide the same level of engagement with the sims, and takes the PPT a long time to grade. This last point is more subjective, but I also find trivia much less fun. Predictions have you watching sims (fun) to see how you did, and the unknown of how much TPE you’ll get is fun too. Trivia has a few people in the league share the answers across every locker room, and when submitting your answers you know exactly how much TPE you’re going to get.

Echoing the point that I hope predictions return at trivia’s expense.

Anyway I won't go any further with this discussion as you simply cannot adress the serious concerns and valid points at all. If you have anything valid to say let me know.

I understand why you're changing up the TPE in regards to an expanded schedule but this idea is something that could have benefited from more public feedback.

I'm aware that the HO job acts on their beliefs on what is best but for major overhauls like this the public should have been more involved.
