What's a better way to start off the preseason than to have the two NSFC Championship game teams going at it?

The Yellowknife Wraiths and the Colorado Yeti will relive the rivalry to see what will be the best course of action for the regular season. The Wraiths ended the regular season coming off of a four game winning streak but fell short in the last game of the regular season to the Yeti. Entering the NSFC Championship game, the Wraiths lost all of their previous momentum, but still had a chance to right their wrongs. They came in and the offense sputtered too many times to steal a victory from the NSFC Champs.

The rivalry continues this year with a bang, both teams bringing in superior talent from the S2 NSFL Draft, ready to see if the top two teams from last year can continue on their successful starts of their careers.

Both teams appear to be the two favorites on paper to meet up again at the NSFC Championship Game. My personal opinion shows that I have the Wraiths getting their revenge on the Yeti and moving on to fight for the Ultimus against the latest expansion team, the Las Vegas Legion. Will that be the case this year? Find out on the next episode of DragonBall Z!

During the draft, every rookie wants to go as high as possible. Being drafted higher results in higher status, being able to lead a team that usually isn't very good, and of course, more pay which can lead to getting even better. For you to be taken number one, you need to believe you are the number one player in the draft, which just about every rookie felt. So, when everyone but Dermot Lavelle was still available at pick number two, many felt disrespected, including Darnell Turner. Turner, a cornerback for the Baltimore Hawks, was the second cornerback off of the board at pick number nine. Turner felt disrespected being taken so late, and is going to prove he's the top defensive back in the draft to every team that passed on him by outshining Lavelle this season. Lavelle and Turner, along with another few rookie cornerbacks, have a pot going worth around 3 million for whoever leads the group in passes defensed. Turner will need to perform great as Lavelle was among the top players in passes defensed last year, but he believes that if he works hard he can lead the entire league in both passes defenses and interceptions.

Jordan Yates cannot wait for preseason week 3 against the wraiths. The reason for this being, is he gets to establish his dominance over Matt James. James, another offensive lineman, was initially drafted by the Liberty, decided to cause drama that usurped Gregory Clegane's outburst pre-draft. James requested an enormous contract, requesting much higher than the average contract. In fact, this contract would have placed him among the highest paid players in the league for season two, while also offerring him a player option for season three. The problem with this is Matt James has shown no reason that he is worth this insane amount of money. He was a mid round pick in the draft and didn't participate in season two at all. Yates, on the other hand, has experience to back him up. He had eight pancakes last season and managed a 4.0 pancake to sack ratio. He also was a much higher pick, being picked in the second round. Yates thinks that James shouldn't be holding out as an unproven rookie who hasn't played a down in the league. He cannot wait to pancake James' teammates and help lead the Sabercats to victory. Be on the lookout in the trenches during week 3

After going mostly under the radar in Season 1, I am looking to establish myself as one of the top running backs in the league this year. My first opportunity will happen in Week 1 of the preseason when I will be going head to head against the reigning MVP on the road. A big performance against the Wraiths could give me momentum to turn this into a special season.

While Bork Björnsson does not typically single out other players as his “rival,” he does find himself significantly excited to play against the Orange County Otters in week 2 of the preseason. The Orange County Otters are widely regarded throughout the league as having the best offensive line in the league, led by the inarguably best offensive lineman in the league: Angus Winchester. Even though Bork Björnsson, a defensive tackle, will not likely line up directly across from Angus, Bork looks forward to proving himself against such a dominant offensive line.

The Orange County Otters offensive line also includes Gregor Clegane, one of the best S2 rookie linemen in the draft, and who was the center of media controversy after he declared that he would not play for any other team except the Otters if they drafted him. Luckily for both Gregor and the Otters, this gamble played off and the Otters bolstered their already dominant offensive line with even more talent. Talent which Bork Björnsson looks forward to testing himself against during the preseason.

Additionally, Bork finds himself interested in monitoring the play of fellow rookie Blaster Blade of the Colorado Yeti. Blade, a fellow defensive lineman (but an end, rather than a tackle) was drafted 2nd overall and was the only defensive player taken before Bork in the draft (other than Wraith’s home boy Dermot Lavelle). Bork feels the need to show the Yeti their mistake in drafting Blade over him.

Preseason Year 2...
Gone is the sky high expectations of immediate superstardom. The league kicked ole Coop' in the 'nads when the ref wasn't looking and it got worse from there. So for this preseason we'll take a wait and see approach and see if the determined hard work we put in and the huge changes to the Hawks roster will bring with it the Hawks we all want and change the outcome of this new season as I really don't wish to repeat the whole rolling around on the grass gasping for air and trying to cough my junk back down from my diaphragm . Yeah it's a vivid picture in my mind. I do that sometimes I create a mental picture of some horrendous physical situation to help explain how bad it was mentally to struggle through something...Yes, kicked in the junk ... that's how bad I thought that sad first season was. I look forward to the clean start of this preseason and hopefully for ole Coop' and the Hawks a much more productive S2 Regular Season to follow.
As S1 we went undefeated in Preseason and then we were pretty non competitive in the Regular season. I say we should intentionally tank the Preseason and Kharma will swing that big pendulum back our way for the run of S2.

@4D Chess doesn't recognize me as his rival, that's ok. He's still mine. And this WR will beat him in every metric that measures a good WR. My team has started to call me Checkers. Chess, you can king me at the end of this season.

So let’s have a quick look at the preseason schedule for the newly minted Las Vegas Legion: the Philadelphia Liberty, the Baltimore Hawks, the Colorado Yeti and the Arizona Outlaws.

Of those four, there are a couple of intriguing matchups. First, lets throw out the Baltimore Hawks – they are absolute trash. They have nobody of note and really, nobody to rival Stormblessed. The Colorado Yeti can also be thrown out. The only thing they accomplished last season is finishing as the first loser. Congrats on being second.

That leaves two: the Philadelphia Liberty and the Arizona Outlaws. The Liberty – sponsored and inspired by Taco Bell – have Stormblessed’s old Outlaw running mate, Lincoln Jefferson. For as well as they worked together on the field, there was a sentiment amongst the analysts that Stormblessed was carrying the duo and Lincoln benefitted greatly from loose coverage.

Still, the premier matchup has to be Stormblessed against his old squad. Unconfirmed reports have been spreading all off-season that the break-up was less than amicable. Stormblessed has undoubtedly circled each match up with the defending champs on his calendar. He will primarily be lining up against a combination of Ryan Flock and Jason Williams. No doubt they’ll roll their coverage to his side of the field. It promises to be a good matchup.

Matthew Vincent vs. Timote Shoate
Rivalry began the second we stepped on the field my freshman (his sophomore) season.
