He didn't get much playing time and really didn't get into football until after high school so he was not given a scholarship anywhere. He went to Virginia Tech since he was trying to become a Mechanical Engineer. In Mellott's junior year of college, Virginia Tech had a bunch of injuries to the Oline, so they hosted try-outs. Mellott, who had been training and practicing since his freshman year to try and make the team finally had his shot, and he was accepted on the team as a backup. He did not get a lot of starting time, but he did impress enough to be allowed to stay on the team for the next season. He was not the starter at first coming into training camp, but with how he had been in practice, he was clearly the best LT on the roster, and so Mellott got to finally become a starter. Mellott then proceeded to quietly have one of the most dominant Oline seasons in that year. Since he had only started one full season, he was still relatively unknown and overlooked. But this last season of his was enough to be noticed and invited to join the ISFL, where Mellott hopes he can become one of the greatest Oline players to ever play in the league. RE: (S25) - PT 3 - Early Decisions - Cody - 10-19-2020 Gary was a standout linebacker in high school, leading his team in tackles each season. The team was able to make the state playoffs in his Junior and Senior year but failed to capture a state title. Gary has 3 older brothers, his oldest brother Larry Jr. was a walk on at Wisconsin and started at LB his Junior and Senior year. Goodman was ranked as a 3 Star LB Recruit coming out of high school. Gary had numerous scholarship offers but ultimately decided to follow in his brothers footsteps and declared for Wisconsin's 2036 class. Goodman wasn’t quite ready for the starting role in his freshman year but he was able to start 2 games at the end of the season due to an injury to Senior LB Percy Gregory. Goodman was deemed the starting linebacker entering his Sophomore year. He quickly became a leader on the field. He played the entire season where the Badgers finished with an 8-5 record and defeated the Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl. Goodman recorded 4 sacks and 2 interceptions during the campaign. Gary’s Junior season was definitely his breakout year. The Wisconsin defense was ranked of the best in the country not allowing any points in 4 games on their way to a 10-4 record with a Rose Bowl loss. Goodman finished the season with 7 sacks and 3 interceptions and was a finalist for the Butkus Award but finished second in the voting. Goodman declared for the DSFL draft at the end of his Junior Season. Chambers only played two seasons of football in high school. His junior season was spectacular, as he quickly worked his way up the depth chart and became the star wide receiver. He began to attract the attention of scouts from nearby colleges, the most notable being The University of New Mexico. Entering his senior season, expectations for Chambers were sky-high. Coaches from his high school thought he could attract the attention of top tier college programs with another great season. Chambers' goal of having an even better season than his last went out the window once personal tragedy struck. His mother had died a week before his senior season. After taking an extended leave from the team, he came back midway through the season. His play was marred by inconsistent play, resulting in him being benched as it was clear he couldn’t focus on football. After his poor senior season, Chambers thought he would never play football again. Unexpectedly, New Mexico offered him a full-tuition football scholarship. Chambers was buried on the depth chart his freshman year, but he was determined to get better and work his way into the starting lineup. He started seeing more playing time in his sophomore year. Unfortunately, his season was derailed by injuries. Entering his junior year, the top two receivers left the team after graduating, giving him the opportunity to be WR1. He took full advantage of this and had one of the greatest WR seasons in New Mexico school history. After overcoming personal tragedy and injury, Chambers decided to declare for the DSFL draft. RE: (S25) - PT 3 - Early Decisions - ztarwarz - 10-19-2020 Darren Pama got a scholarship to Iowa, sure...but not an athletic one. Pama, with only 2 years of high school experience, and not even that standout experience, was never going to get a scholarship to any program that was worthwhile. And Iowa gave him a good excuse to get a decent distance away from San Francisco. That being said, Pama did not get into the starting lineup until his Junior year, being a WR5 or even 6 for Freshman year, and after changing positions to Tight End, his Sophomore year didn't get much better as a TE4, although he did memorably pick up a fumble for a touchdown. Only in his Junior year did he end up in the starting lineup, but he definitely didn't let it go to waste, almost immediately becoming one of the best catching tight ends in the country, and the undisputed best run blocking tight end. His Senior campaign was even better, including a monstrous amount of broken tackles and double digit touchdowns. He credits his experience run blocking with his current ability to find lanes and tell when his blockers are going to fail. Pama's had a very difficult road to the pros, and his first year in the DSFL was not amazing, but he hopes that he's finally found his footing and can dominate for years to come. If you've read his backstory you know how much of an athlete he was in high school. The raw talent was too much to pass up on, regardless of position. Zamir wanted to stay close to home, and even though he got lots of offers, he decided to go a smaller college in UTEP. Sure, they've had some good players come out, most notably Aaron Jones. Zamir wasn't guaranteed a starting spot freshman year when he was recruited, but he was fine with that. It said a lot more about the organization, and he wanted to play for a smart team, even if they didn't win a lot. Zamir beat out all the other starting corners in training camp, even the seniors, and he was slotted as a CB1 for his rookie game. As expected, Zamir played extremely well, and was a lockdown corner from day 1. Luckily, opposing QBs weren't as smart as they are in the pros, so he got plenty of opportunities to change the game. One thing many people do not know, is that Zamir actually played WR through his first few seasons in high school. This experience with playing receiver allowed Zamir to achieve the level of play he has today. |
