That said, what is the goal here?  If elite players, who generally stick around more and have more knowledge of the community, are suddenly paid upwards of 10M, why would they write articles?  You have less incentive to do anything to generate content for the community, because you don't need the money.  I would argue that we don't want anyone to have a high salary, exactly because it forces people to generate content for the community to enjoy.

And why would we pay rookies less?  "Hey new guy, welcome to the community.  We don't pay new people anything, so you'll be making articles and graphics constantly to afford equipment while the elite look down, judging.  Wait! Come back!  I swear, this is fun!"
I put a bunch of stuff here but then i read the rest of the comment and it basically covers what I would say

Lol I have applied to every job out there and havent gotten one just saying

(08-03-2017, 11:36 AM)Silver Fox Wrote:There are in fact minimum pay requirements:
A player’s minimum contract amount is determined by their TPE total upon signing, as follows:
Tier 6 (1000+ TPE) - $5,000,000
Tier 5 (800+ TPE) - $4,000,000
Tier 4 (600+ TPE) - $3,000,000
Tier 3 (400+TPE) - $2,000,000
Tier 2 (200+ TPE) - $1,000,000
Tier 1 (<200 TPE) - $500,000

That said, not much differentiation for another season or 2, since the league is so young.

This is helpful but the salary cap is still too low but as long as its going up at some rate that is good. I mean 1000 TPE is a player who has committed for roughly 5 seasons? some players are getting more than 5 mil now. It helps spread out the top players which is good. I get that its a minimum but Im not sure it fixes what Im talking about with the contracts basically being useless now. They should be more apart of the league.

Pros of jumping the salary cap:
- More of a pay gap between the league's best/most positionally scarce players and the worst/most common.
- Allows GMs to focus more on managing their teams/players without letting their own player slide in value.
- Allows more flexibility in team-building and exciting free agencies

Cons:
- Makes players on minimum salaries a potentially unbalancing factor.
- Screws over players who just signed long term deals.
- Screws over teams like the Legion, whose cap space is currently the only advantage they have to look forward to, as this extra money guarantees that no upper tier team has to let a player go for cap space for at least 4 more seasons.

Assessment:
The idea clearly has merit, but almost tripling the cap in two years time is a reckless idea.  Maybe if the increase were smaller, and continued over a longer stretch of time it would work.  Additionally, the minimum deals of higher tier players would need to be increased aggressively, perhaps doubling the increase for each tier.  We can't have rookies making more than T3 players (which will be happening in S3 at the moment).  We have to consider what kind of impact this would have on league jobs, as doing them would no longer be necessary for financial gain.  Would we still have the same level of support?

I don't want to say yea or neigh to this, just wanted to make sure certain things were taken into consideration.
I think the GM pro of salary cap jump is important. I have a weak salary right now, based on my performance and activity level. I signed this before becoming GM, however in one season when I can renegotiate with myself I would like to give myself more money. This is so I don't have to dedicate time to writing articles or making graphics and I can instead focus on being a GM. I am hesitant to do this though because I don't want to be considered greedy or selfish by my own team, and I don't want my situation to cause my teammates to have less money and them move on to other teams or better situations. So at the moment I will probably give myself another minimum contract next season and use my updater job as my main source of income.

This is true, Adam and I do the same thing. Related, we could get paid for GMing as a league job, but I'm not sure if I'd support that or not - we definitely do a lot of work, but we also signed up for that and presumably we get some enjoyment from the position itself. But if we were paid for GMing as a league job, outside of our contracts, on a personal level I'd appreciate it, just not sure how fair it is, lol.

Yea I don't know if I necessarily want to be paid for the GM spot. I think the pay is for our players and should come out of the cap as such, but an increase in cap would alleviate some of the burden on GMs.

We already do a lot of work for the teams, and it is enjoyable, but taking a lower pay causes more work with media obligations.

I think the pro gear is supposed to be hard to get...haha

*Salary Cap Proposal - sapp2013 - 08-03-2017

so the 2017 salary cap figure is $167 million for 53 players. Our teams consist of 40 players, but if we remove the bots, (11 offense, 11 defense, 2 special, backups) we are looking at roughly 30 players and 10 bots or inactives when we are at a good capacity. the bots or inactives will take minimum contracts, so that is $5 million right there that NFL does not have to worry about. so taking the ration of 30/53 times the NFL salary ($167) would land us at $94.5 Million salary cap. Then we have to add back the inactives/bots, so that is an additional $5m which brings us to roughly $100 Million. The average NSFL contract would be 2.5 M whereas the NFL would be $3.2 M. however, the average contract for active players would be $3.2 M. If we based this off of the 40 players, we would still be at a $3.2M per player contract, however the total cap would be $126M and the average per active player would be $4.0M per year.

Aside from this, I think we should install baseline rookie contracts based on where they were drafted, similar to how the NBA does it. each draft pick has a dollar amount and rookies can sign for up to 120% of the amount or downwards of 80% of the amount. The NFL does do this a little, but I could not find any good charts or values to help visualize what they do. stupid internet. by having a drafted rookie pay scale that diminishes the longer you wait to be drafted, it helps to motivate GMs to think about trading down to get a player to save a bit of cash rather than taking the pick now to save the hassle of trading. It will also give more relative worth to those picked higher in the draft.

Also, I think we need more levels of gear/training. if this means decreasing what we already have so the TPE doesnt get out of hand, fine. But with higher contracts bound to happen, some people will just be sitting on money with nothing to spend it on.

I definitely think it'd be cool if there was something relating to draft position. The only true benefit to being drafted early right now is personal pride. If they made it so players were rewarded in some way, people wouldn't tank their draft stock, etc. I thought it would be interesting if you draft position impacted how much TPE you got in rookie camp. But then the good would just get better. Right now, if you're a good player and you get drafted late it's better for your team because you're assuming they got another good player with the earlier pick.
