#17 and #53 are Portland's RDT and LDT in 3-4.
Consistently on every play those players line up and engage with the Offensive Tackle each play. Is it clunky and not immediately intuitive to consider these positions, which are labeled as "DT," as DEs? Yes. Is it the right way that awards committee should be regarding and measuring performance and eligibility for those positions? Yes.

Exactly this. This is on Wolverine for having them listed as RDT and LDT. They lineup and behave like DEs and should be treated as such.

They are though. Look at how the new sim treats them. In order to set your RDT and LDT in the 3-4 formation screen, you set them as LE and RE. It's the position that JJ Watt plays. I've never once heard someone claim that he's playing DT.

It's poor wording/abbreviating by Wolverine. The outside DL in a 3-4 are DEs.

So there is zero point in this league in playing DT unless you play nose tackle.

Please change the name of the award.

That's literally how the NFL works too. Yes, there is 0 point of playing in the league at a position unless you play at that position.
If you want more playing time go play for a 4-3 defensive scheme or suck it up and play at DE. I do agree with you that the awards system is broken for defensive linemen, but did you expect an easy path to playing full time as a DT in a 3-4 defense?
The Packers run this exact same scheme with just one nose tackle. A lot of teams run this exact same scheme. You're still eligible for DEOTY so stop whining with your passive aggressive articles flaming the awards committee who already are getting enough shit as it is.

So would someone be able to explain why last season I was eligible and this season not? I was in the same defensive scheme both seasons.

Was last season I shouldn't have been? Or this season I should have been?

Or is the rule just that janky that each season it's just up for whatever someone ends up deciding is good or not?

I think these are pretty legitimate questions on how the process works.

I might have the power of a goat and a tank, but I don't have that kind of power.
