The obvious answer, in more ways than one, is Tatsu Nakamura to his home country of Japan. For one, he's one of the players on the Outlaws with an international birthplace, being born in Yokohama. But more importantly, he's been the best running back, and arguably the best player, in the ISFL for the past 3 seasons straight. There's no better way to get the country invested in a sport than to rally behind a superstar from their own country, just look at Yao Ming in Basketball for a perfect example. As such, Tatsu gets the nod for the Outlaws. What would he be doing? Probably not all that much different from most other boot camps, he'd run drills, perhaps going into a bit more detail on the Running Back drills, and regaling the people at the camp with stories from his time in the ISFL. He might also talk about some of his relationships with his teammates or specific players, maybe his rivalry with Dax Frost/Raphtalia Chan/Chizuru Ichinose for awards as the best running backs in each league for a couple years, or his bonds with the other players from the S22 draft. He might also talk about the circumstances that resulted in his trade from the Otters to the Outlaws in the first place.

Press Release: Norfolk, Bondi Beach Will Team Up in Japan

The Norfolk Seawolves NOR are delighted to partner with the Bondi Beach Buccaneers BBB to lead a series of youth football camps in Japan this offseason. American football is rapidly growing in popularity in Japan, and the country has been suggested as a prime location for a future DSFL/ISFL expansion franchise, with Tokyo or Osaka being the most likely host cities. On account of their geographical proximity, Bondi Beach has taken a leading role in driving growth of the sport in Japan in recent years. In response to rising interest in their offseason football camps there, the Buccaneers have invited us to join them in promoting the sport in Japan by teaching football skills to Japanese youth, and we are happy to accept.

Both teams will be sending their rookie draft classes, select veteran players, and members of the respective coaching staffs to spend two weeks in Japan promoting and teaching the sport of American football there. Besides driving international interest in the sport, this trip will also give our rookie classes an opportunity to bond as teammates or friendly rivals through experiencing a new country and culture together. Over these two weeks, the DSFL players and coaches will be partnering with players and coaches from Japan’s top college programs and the semi-professional X-League to lead football camps and hold skills competitions in four Japanese cities: Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kobe. The DSFL rookies from Norfolk and Bondi will also be participating in joint OTAs and in exhibition scrimmages against X-League players to condition and prepare for the upcoming season. (We expect they will also find plenty of time to explore, relax, and enjoy themselves before the grind of the regular season sets in!)

The Buccaneers inform us that leading the Japan camps has been a major highlight of their past several offseasons, and Norfolk is delighted and honored to be their guests this year.

Not all penguins are from Antarctica, though there are certainly penguins who do stay down there. One of these penguins are the Adélie penguins. Lately, one of their members has been having great success on the field with the Colorado Yeti. It only makes sense, then, that the Adélie penguins would all get together to have a workshop with their greatest member: Adelie de Pengu, the famous linebacker. During the warmer months, the penguins gather and create impressive outlines of football fields out of pebbles. Occasionally, quarrels break out during this process because every penguin knows the importance of a good rock. But they eventually sort out their differences and run their drills until the instructor arrives. The penguins struggle a bit on offense, since they have a hard time passing the ball and flippers aren’t exactly designed for optimal catching. They do,  however, excel on defense. Despite being a little bit smaller, Adélie penguins are fearless and have shocking amounts of dedication. They will track down a ball carrier with a ferocity that is unparalleled. As such, they make great linebackers and members of the secondary. Isa has repeatedly said in interviews that he hopes more penguins will make the jump to the ISFL in the near future and he is doing everything possible to make this dream a reality.

Release: Norfolk Rookie WR Spreads Goodwill and Knowledge in Africa

Recently drafted rookie wide receiver French Fries has always been known to have a heart of gold. His selfless and easy-going nature mean he is always willing to help others, and he demonstrated that by using his off-season time to travel to Zimbabwe to run a clinic for the Harare Hammers, a semi-professional team in the Zimbabwean capitol that is working to help American football gain a foothold in this soccer-dominated country.

Current Hammers players were stunned to be coached by a player of Fries's profile, and were eager to soak up all of the knowledge they could. Fries worked with each position group, providing tips and insights that he has learned throughout his career, while also helping the team institute a simple, yet effective option offense. According to Fries, this offense will allow the Hammers to utilize their natural speed and break big perimeter runs against their opponents.

On the last day of the clinic (and following team approval), Fries suited up and scrimmaged with the Harare players, giving the team moments they would never forget. After signing autographs for all in attendance and saying his goodbyes, Fries returned to Norfolk, vowing to return the following offseason, and vowing to watch the Zimbabwean American Football League (ZAFL) season on ESPN 8, "The Ocho".

Okay well, it depends on where you consider the Berlin Fire Salamanders to be located. If they are in the US, i’d argue Highschaldi, who i believe is a native German, would go to Berlin, our namesake, and lead a program there. But okay, maybe that’s too easy, so let’s make it a little more difficult and eliminate both Berlin and US from the running for the program. From there, I think the best thing to do is send Marlon Brando to Italy, as that is where streetcar named desire is set (or crap wait maybe it’s Paris, but like i’m only realizing this after writing out this PT so like sorry about that). In addition, Marlon Brando played the Godfather, and the mafia is traditionally italian, so like that’s another connection. Alright, so what would the program be like? Well while there isn’t really football in Italy, there is rugby. That being said, the Italian rugby team is god awful, so maybe people are looking for a version of rugby that they can actually get into. that’s where football comes in. Football actually came from rugby originally, so this gives us an opportunity to present football as like evolved rugby. The program would be basically starting off with rugby, and explaining how football is better in every way, and how this can inspire italian sports outside of non-american football.

Portland Pythons Going Global

During the offseason, the Portland Pythons were contacted by the EU to provide a series of training camps across Europe in a tour. Three camps were completed over a period of 2 weeks. Each camp consisted of several days of small clinical class with different age groups of local residents. Each of the training camps would be led by the players themselves with the coaching staff acting as support.

1. Berlin, Germany
2. Nice, France
3. La Manga, Spain

Each camp lasted for 4 days. The first two days were aimed at the younger age groups, with any kid under the aga of 15 being able to attend. In these camps the team were demonstrating the basic of football, from throwing & catching passes to running with the ball as well as fun “pro bowl” style games. In addition to the football lessons the team taught, they also provided the kids with insights into the life of professional sport person and the attitude required to succeed. Several of the team members were heard saying to one another the enthusiasm that the kids were showing to learn & participate, especially in a relatively niece sport in Europe.
The 2nd training camp was aimed for the teens 16+, these camps were more focused and regimented, with the aim to engross the young adults in the devolution required for succeeding in sport. The team lead class focusing on area of technique that were area of concern for developing player, for example “correct method for tackling” or “how to hold the ball whilst being tackled.”
The management hope that the team gained valuable experience in leadership and team building by conducting the drill and session themselves rather than relaying on the experience of the coaches. For one of Portland’s’ main ethos is the development of the player for success in the future wherever that may be.

Canada came knocking at the door of the New Orleans Second Line, and I, Remus Roman, answered that door. The Canadian Football League in particular was looking for an ISFL ambassador to help usher in a new era of football to Canada as a whole, with their long term goal to integrate the Canadian Football League into the ISFL, creating an even more international spectacle. Remus, as a solid representative for the league, eloquent in his speech, and a positive role model for the league, was chosen as the representative for New Orleans.

What transpired upon arrival was a fantastic camp filled with both collaboration on the business side, as well as a training camp of sorts where Canada’s top football players could speak with and train alongside the top ISFL players. Remus came and worked closely with the running backs, teaching new drills and agility techniques to promote long term growth and development, while keeping health and safety at the top of mind. For a running back, longevity is the biggest issue – constantly getting beaten and hit nearly every play can result in some minor injuries that compile over time. So Remus focused on developing good training and diet to promote long term heath.

While the ISFL has gone global, and has an Australian team already represented in the DSFL(Bondi Beach), the London Royals franchise has just finished a scouting and training program in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. The UK still holds sway over the colonies, and as a member of the Commonwealth, Australia seems like a logical choice for London to increase it's global influence, despite the presence of Bondi.
When London initially started to put together this program, Buffalo Hunter the former Royals Tight End volunteered to lead the "expedition" down under and run the participants through the various drills and propaganda, err, information sessions and also to evaluate the talent. With raw athletes drawn from several sports including Rugby League and Australian Rules Football(AFL), the Royals ran several sessions introducing prospective new players to the game of American Football and the results were impressive, at least athletically. While the nuances of the North American sport were not displayed by the Aussies, the endurance, strength and toughness was easy to observe by those in attendance. In recent years, the Pacific Islands have started to dominate the talent pool of the Southern Hemisphere and most of the top tier athletes seen by the Royals in Sydney were of Samoan, Tongan and Fijian heritage, with a rare combination of size, speed and strength, perfect attributes that translate well to the ISFL stage.
In Melbourne, where AFL dominates the sporting landscape, most of the players were more suited to the skill positions such as kickers and punters, as seen recently in the NFL where the skillset translates more easily for those positions.
All in all, the trip to Australia was a success with a couple of athletes earmarked for further development and possibly a future in the DSFL/ISFL.
