(S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - 4D Chess - 09-11-2017 I can tell you this: when Samuel Zhang was still sitting on the board so late in the draft me, Er and AD took a look around and were wondering if we had been bamboozeled. Since the word go, Zhang has been incredibly active. And despite the fact that we had three 250+ TPE recievers on the roster we knew adding a rookie like Zhang would only bolster the offense in Arizona, which is often overlooked in favor of our scary fucking good defense. Zhang was willing to play any position, but soon we realized we'd probably rather have him in his natural-born position of wideout rather than forcing him to switch to defense and have to learn a whole new spot. We took a big risk, dealt Jackson, and now Zhang will be the #3 WR to start the season. He should benefit from having players like Evans and Chess in front of him as the pressure to put up massive numbers in his rookie year won't be as high. Clearly the whole organization thinks highly of this guy and he should be a key cog in the machine as the Outlaws try for the elusive threepeat. Keep rocking shit out Zhang, lord knows we need ya! 208 Words (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Vikain - 09-11-2017 With the draft just passed and the kids ready to make a statement to the vets in the preseason we have our eyes on a couple. Though they did not have a first round pick their subsequent picks all have a shot to be difference makers for the Philadelphia Liberty. Guys like Clifford Rove and William Ridley have a chance to press onto opening season roster and compete for a chance to play. But one guy I think is going to be an interesting player to watch in the preseason. Ceasar Millan a man going from training dogs to trying make sure the qb stays alive. Taken in the third round 17th overall Millan is a big man at 6”7 and weighing 330. He is going to be a tough cookie to get passed for opposing rushers. He definitely helps the Liberty as their oline struggled to keep Christ safe last season. They opposing teams consistently had pressure in the back of the field causing many issues in the Liberty offense. He is still a raw talent but he has a lot of potential to becoming one of the best linemen in the league. It will definitely be something many fans will be watching to see if Millan can make the team, and he has all the tools in his arsenal to make sure that he does. (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Lendoris - 09-11-2017 First round draft pick on a kicker? Bold, and I like it. Has anyone seen on Hardknocks, when the buccaneers cut Roberto Aguayo who was drafted in the second round of the NFL? Some say his rookie failure was related to kicking mechanism changes, others think that the blame could be solely put on overwhelming pressure of the game. Drafting a kicker in an early round sure does create a lot of pressure for young players. Despite being real world personalities, simulated players don't really feel pressure during game time. Fourth wall break and disruption of our fantasy world aside, I'm super excited to see Iyah Blewitt. I trust our front office, and if they say we need a kicker then we need a kicker. I usually undervalue kickers and I'm hoping Iyah Blewitt kicks some appreciation into me. I can see it now, Sabercats down by one, two minute offense on the field. Here we go at the 50 yard line, approach field goal range. Quick route to Smallwood; he steps out of bounds at the 30. Seven seconds to go, Here comes Iyah Blewitt and the field goal unit. The snap is flawless, the kick booming, it's going....it's.....gooooooood. SaberCats win! SaberCats win! Here's to you Iyah, Hope you don't blow it. (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Bayley - 09-11-2017 The Season 3 Rookie in which I am most excited about is none other than LB Julian O'Sullivan from the Orange County Otters. Going #6 overall, O'Sullivan has some huge shoes to fill. O'Sullivan has been active in the training as she has 130+ TPE which is fantastic. I think this is going to be one of the steals of the draft. Looking at O'Sullivan, she is a strong LB that is agile, a good tackler, and speed that will bring her to the next level. I think that hands and intelligence has some work to do, but this is a balanced. In this lineup, it will definitely be interesting to see how O'Sullivan progresses. O'Sullivan has great size, so there is no doubt that O'Sullivan will be a run-stopper as the Otters will have hoped. I think that she is going to be a really great addition to their defense. Other rookies in which I am excited to see play is Iyah Blewitt, Brice Boggs, the Sandoval brothers, and Francois Lamoreaux. I think all of these guys will play important roles on their teams and each have a sense of pressure because of where their team took them in the draft. Preseason will be a rocky road for a lot of the rookies, but we will see what happens. The recent draftee out of Washington played quarterback for the huskies, but it seems that won’t be the case for him in the pros. With the selection of Clifford Rove, many were scratching heads at the choice of Browning. However, recently it has been announced that Browning will be switching to wide receiver to play for this young, up and coming team. While playing quarterback, we were all dazzled by his pure speed and maneuverability, so this position switch seems like a match made in heaven. I think he will be turning a lot of heads this season with stellar play, and will help to lead the offense with fellow rookie Rove. His acquisition helped to strengthen the Liberty receiving corps, and many feel that the Liberty are a strong choice for a playoff spot, in only their second season in the league. Browning has the opportunity to really help the Liberty franchise, and the feeling in the locker room is that he will. While the switch to receiver isn't always going to be effortless just because of his speed, it seems he has the tools to make the most of it. 209 Words @Rindiee (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - RedCydranth - 09-11-2017 The Orange County Otters pride themselves on finding a lot of "gems in the rough". During the Season 3 draft they did a fantastic job finding these so-called gems. One such gem is their young Kicker, Stephen Simpson. Stephen Simpson was a very late addition to the Season 3 draft class. He debated whether to come out now or stay another year at Texas, but the allure of the pros was too great to ignore. As the draft cycled picks, round after round, Simpson watched a whole host of names be picked. Round 7 came and went and it was starting to scare him that he wasn't going to be picked at all. But soon his phone rang and it was Dominic Verns, the Otters GM. The conversation was brief but it was to let him know that if he is still around at Orange County's pick, he'd be lacing up in Southern California. Since being drafted, Simpson has been in the Orange County facility working with coaches on his accuracy and strength. He prefers the south goal posts to practice his Field Goals while Al Sims practices on the north. The two have gotten along despite knowing only one will be on the starting roster. Simpson knows he's likely to be going to the DSFL and embraces that. He told the Otters GM that he's open to the idea because he wants to go where he's needed most. He's a selfless player who will flourish in the DSFL. (250 Words) |
