Movie Buff Thread - Jiggly_333 - 11-20-2017 On the Star Wars discussion, I'm gonna agree with enig about Rogue One's purpose. Also, it introduced me to Felicity Jones and I have never looked back since. ![]() Movie Buff Thread - Jiggly_333 - 11-20-2017 But if you want me to actually go full film snob, I have a list of movies that I feel everyone should at least watch once. Blues Brothers Fucking duh. This is one of those movies where the city is actually a character and it just so happens to be my favorite city. Then there's the cameos. So many cameos. The music is incredible and even without the cameos, it's an all-star cast. If they ever want to ruin it's legacy with a remake, count me in as Joliet Jake. ![]() Princess Bride One of the most quotable movies ever besides Forest Gump and literally anything by Monty Python. Very faithful to its source material. Really just a great film overall. I really don't know what else I can say about it that's never been said. ![]() Twelve Chairs This is Mel Brooks' greatest work and it is also his least known. It's a very intellectual comedy about post revolutionary Russia. That sounds really snobby, but trust me its great. I go back and forth with it and this next movie as my favorite movie of all time. It also includes one of the greatest opening themes in film history: [iframe width=\\\"560\\\" height=\\\"315\\\" src=\\\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/rt1cA0jqamk\\\" frameborder=\\\"0\\\" allowfullscreen][/iframe] Whiplash One of the greatest pieces of cinema ever made. The reason it's so great is way too much to get into, but the main thing I want to mention is its ability to go quiet. I've said before that the best thing a movie can do is nothing. Of course, the plot needs to move on and a lot of people do get bored; but when it's done correctly it can be so beautiful. Whiplash's ability to be about the loudest instrument in a band while still have such great moments of quiet is absolutely amazing. In order to do something like that, you need an actor who can provide great subtle facial changes and Miles Teller delivers on that. ![]() There's definitely other movies that I love, but these four aren't movies, they're art. I'll come back if I can remember a few more that are really good. I mean, the rebels could spot it almost instantly after getting the plans. It made no sense. And I agree with little to no character development. I'm not saying it's the best movie ever made, I'm just saying it served its purpose.
