Today I am writing about what team and what player will surprise this season. As it comes to absolute no surprise I am going to continue to be entirely bias and talk about the Portland Pythons and their rookie starting tight end, Glenn McPoyal. I'll start off by talking about the Portland Pythons and why I think their going to be a surprise this season. They just won the championship game last season and with the exits of many great players such as John Watchner and Carlito Crush, and other names, many people may think the Portland Pythons will not be able to compete this year. That is where I think the Portland Pythons will surprise all of the doubters. Getting a new wide receiver and a new tight end and just yesterday picking up a running back. Everyone in the locker room is active and updating players. That will help us tremendously on the field. Now I will shift gears and talk about s specific player. That player is non other than (surprise surprise) Portland Pythons starting rookie tight end, Glenn McPoyal. People don't even know his name yet. After Carlito Crushs big season why should they? Well Glenn McPoyal will be a tremendous asset to the Portland Pythons. He will be a miss match with the linebackers and will be racking up the yards on the feild. To everyones surprise, they will know the name Glenn McPoyal by the end of this season.

Everyone knows that the Orange County Otters are the strong favorites to repeat this season. Everyone knows the huge steps backwards the Arizona Outlaws took in the off season. So, by default, the San Jose Sabercats are the likely benefactor to the collapse of the once prolific powerhouse. But what will shock everyone is the level to which the Sabercats will rise. it is a bold statement to make but it needs to be made. The Sabercats will post the 2nd best record in the NSFL. They will do this off of the MVP quality season of Chris Orosz and their duo of WRs, Mayran Jackson and Shane Weston. Running Back Darren Smallwood, aka Checkers, will be playing mind games with opposing defenses as he becomes the NSFL's second best rusher. The offense will be second best only to division rivals, Orange County. When the Sabercats make their first ever playoff appearance, they will go toe to toe with the Otters and while I feel they may fall short of the W, they'll prove to everyone that they're going to be contenders in the division for years to come. It is going to take the Legion and the Outlaws quite a while before they can think about rejoining the playoff conversation. It isn't unfathomable that in a matter of 2 seasons, we could be talking about the Ultimus making a home in the Bay area.

I think the biggest surprise for people will be Brian Mills, and him making a jump up to 1st overall in the NSFL draft. Picked 9th overall, Mills doesn't have too much to do to surprise people, but still making a jump to that 1st overall over numerous recreates will be a surprise indeed.

As for team's I think Luchadores will also be surprising teams, by going undefeated through out the year, and capping things off with a championship winning field goal by Forfeit to win it all. The even bigger surprise will be that they outscore their opponents 1000-200 through the full season and playoffs.

As for another surprise, I think we will see the Portland Pythons ending up dead last in the DSFL, even behind two bots teams? Why will that be a surprise, well simple, who would expect an active team to finish behind an bots team, no one and especially not the Pythons. But it will happen and boy will it be a glorious thing to see. But when the Pythons finish dead last, I know it won't be a surprise to me, as I called it all the way in this PT, and now have written proof of that.

It may surprise a few around the league when Noah Goodson comes out not as hot this season. The Arizona Outlaws have suffered set backs, and Goodson doesn't have the same supporting cast anymore. Goodson is still continuing to improve every week, but it will be difficult to have the same king of magical rookie season numbers that Goodson managed to put up. Goodson was still pretty green last season, but put up numbers that made him look like he was already in his prime. The former 1st rounder, and defensive rookie of the year, is eager to get the Outlaws back on track towards that dominant reputation they used to have. Some may consider this a good thing, some love to see a great team and player falter. We'll see where Goodson's season goes, it may be worse off, and if it isn't, I'll consider that to be a pleasant surprise. Keeping the same numbers from last season would be a very successful season, in my opinion. Making the playoffs, the Arizona Outlaws will probably surprise the entire league. It'll be an uphill battle, but with everyone writing off the Outlaws, it'll be a big surprise for the Outlaws to make the playoffs once again.

There are going to be a lot of surprises this year, and who knows which to talk about in this point task. The one that I think will surprise everyone is the quarterback for the Las Vegas Legion. That's right, disgraced quarterback, former league work horse and over all pariah of the league Logan Noble is back. Having not taken a regular season snap since the second season of the NSFL Logan Noble is coming back strong in hopes to reclaim his title as one of the best QBs in the league. I think he'll shock people and be in conversation for top 5 in the league. He doesn't have a ton of weapons around him, but with Las Vegas purchasing solid bots, and the team acquiring a star tight end in Joseph Askins to give him a nice security blanket, I expect Logan Noble to surprise the haters of the league and put up a respectable seasons.

The Performance enhancing drug scandal did a LOT to hurt his reputation in the league, and quite frankly when he last played he wasn't even all that good in Season 2, but if Logan can somewhat return to his season 1 form then I will not be too surprised, but the rest of the league might be. And if he is, watch out, Las Vegas might be better than what you expect.

I see a lot of people predicting that the Outlaws are going to be unbelievably awful... like Legion and Yeti - tier of terrible. I think that the Outlaws are going to surprise those certain people. I'm not saying that they will make the playoffs, because frankly I think the Sabercats have a better chance, but I don't think the Outlaws will be terrible. Trading away Garden was a bit of a head scratcher, but the Outlaws still have a lot of strong pieces in place to be good for at least one season. And after that one season, who knows? A lot can change.

I think the outlaws will have something like 5-7 wins. I think they'll probably sweet Legion and Yeti and may squeeze out one to two more wins thanks to their defense. From what I've been reading, this will be a surprise to some people in the league. The reason (if you've been living under a rock) for this drastic fall is because it was recently discovered that many of the Outlaw's players were in fact multis, and all of those players have been kicked from the league. I still think the Outlaws have (or at least had) a good foundation to build off of, but I think trading away the league's most explosive offensive weapon may come back to hurt them.

Ryan Sierra – DT – Orange County Otters
S5 PT #3 – Surprises

The surprises of this league are like the Christmas gift that keeps on giving. Coming into this league raw and inexperienced, having never participated in a sim league before, I didn’t know what to expect. The first surprise was how involved getting my player up and running was. The intricacy and depth of each of the attributes and variety of positions with different archetypes really provide an expansive array of player development possibilities. Deciding on a direction for my player's storyline and developing his origin became part reflection and part dream from my childhood.
Writing has always been a chore for me, as I have always written per assignment in class. Never have I ever written freely, like I’m able to do through this league. The guidelines and suggested topics help me open my mind to write about things I enjoy, such as sports and player development. This, perhaps, is the single biggest surprise this league has provided me and an unexpected source of enjoyment.
Lastly, the unfortunate surprise I find within this league is the tremendous amount of turnover. Turnover is expected for the everyday and casual players, but what is alarming to me is the number of new and inexperienced players involved with the administration and front offices of the organizations and Head Office. With so much turnover, important aspects of those positions go without management. These oversights are not even the fault of the unknowing leadership, as they have never been trained properly or experienced high quality management themselves. To help curb some of those efficiencies, continued mentorship of those roles would lead to less turnover and more enjoyment both, for the players and administration.

I think one of the major surprises that not many people are going to talk about is rookie Safety Cameron Taylor getting his first career interception this season. It's been a long time coming and a long off-season, but the hard work will eventually pay off for Taylor. This is the year. Someone has to throw a pick eventually. We are all praying it will happen. But in all seriousness, the Wraiths defense and the Wraiths team as a whole will surprise some people. The offense is just as dangerous, if not more dangerous than last year and the defense has improved as well. While the Wraiths's division has remained strong, the same can not be said about the other division. The Outlaws are a mess, the Legion are discombobulated, the Cats and the Otters will be good again, but will they be as good? This is a rare case where someone from the NSFC can come out on top of the league, it will just take the best team in the division to do it. While lots of people think the Wraiths will be successful, I think the surprise will be that people won't realize how the Wraiths will dominate the league this year.

Liberty I think will surprise a lot of people in a good way. For last two years now they have been a borderline playoff team and squeezing with a good amount of luck last year. I think everyone around the league will still have the notion that the Liberty are going to be a bubble team. But if you look on paper at this Liberty team they are way too good to fail. Last year was a down year for the Philly defence as they did not get the amount of turnovers they were hoping for plus overall they were mostly in the middle of the pack for the rest of the stats. This year they hope that they had a year under their belt to gel and accumulate some chemistry to succeed. Offensively this might be the most detrimental to the success of the Liberty. Offensively they look good as well with what should be a better O line, two fantastic wideouts in Fox North and Josh Garden. Plus an elite Tight End of Paul Dimirio with a very competent Kroetch as the running back. The question mark sits on Cliff Rove, the qb. Last two years he has been top of the league with interceptions and has struggled at times to keep plays alive. This year the word is that Rove is beginning to put pieces together and looks really good in practice.

Life is full of surprises. It's also full of really obvious things, such as the Liberty offense ripping through a Legion defense where the best player is a linebacker that wouldn't even start for a couple of teams. But surprises as well. An unheralded former Legion draft pick just might be among them. Andreas Waiters recorded 2 sacks in his first NSFL game despite not really being all that well known or thought of.

The prospect was picked by the Legion in the s4 draft and left in the DSFL for seasoning by team that thought it was on the rise. Instead things went slightly askew, like a wedding where everyone catches on fire. Waiters found himself traded to the Arizona Outlaws and called up to the main roster immediately. Outlaws management tabbed him as a future star and put him on their starting lineup on day one that he showed up. His response was 10 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks on beleaguered frequent mugging victim Nick Pierno.

The game, which was 34-9, proved that Waiters had more up his sleeve than most teams thought, and seemed to indicate that some experts should stick to figuring out how to be running backs before ranking the Yeti over the Outlaws in the future.
