(S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - PigSnout - 05-22-2018 Boss Tweed's draft party was an interesting experience. He joined the NSFL in its inaugural season which made him part of the largest draft class we have seen to date. This led to a lot of uncertainty for Tweed as it was hard to get an indicator of where he would go in this large class. Most mock drafts only covered the first few rounds and Tweed didn't appear in them so he didn't really have any idea where he would be going. Due to the uncertainty, he decided to have a more low key draft party and to just wait and watch it by himself rather than have a bunch of people come over. It ended up being a long wait for him. Most teams either already had a starting running back or else found their starter early on in the draft. As the middle rounds went on, most teams began finding backup running backs as well and Tweed's name still hadn't been called. As time went on, Tweed began to have doubts and wondered if anybody was going to draft him. Finally in the 17th round of the draft, Tweed received a call from the Colorado Yeti to tell him that they had selected him. It took a bit longer than expected, but in the end Tweed was drafted and found a home. Quote:225 Words (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - nunccoepi - 05-22-2018 Epictitus Milburn, co-GM of the Tijuana Luchadores, spent the evening of the NSFL draft in the war room of the Luchadores training facility with Brian Mills, his fellow GM. Together they planned to spend the night game planning for the upcoming DSFL draft. Times were tough and there was not extra money to go around to hire other staff members--in fact most DSFL teams dont even have as many minds working on the draft as the Luchadores did. Nevertheless, as the names and numbers in front of the continued to run together and the rum and coke began to run more freely, the flashing lights of the television caught their eyes. Milburn and Mills had missed the beginning of the NSFL draft. As they watched the Luchadores walk across the stage one by one as they once did, they were filled with pride as they reminisced about the season behind them. After each of their former players donned their new team's regalia and sauntered off the stage with a rehearsed wave they gave each a phone call of personal congratulations. Some sounded distracted by the joy of the moment while the voices of others cracked under the weight of the varied emotions welled up inside. These were the moments that made the work all worth it. Then it was all over. The GMs sobered up as they gathered what they needed to take back to the hotel for the night, eager to get to work on the season ahead of them. ![]() (251) (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - TheMemeMaestro - 05-23-2018 Antonio Sandoval spent his draft party at his family home, and it was a really big draft party. He was the projected #1 pick, where he would eventually go, and in addition, it was also the draft party for his recently retired brother Ricardo Sandoval, another projected first-round selection. All together it was a great day for the brothers and the family as a whole. It was mostly family, with some very close family friends, such as the brothers agent and High School coach, as well as the Notre Dame and San Diego State coaches. It was a very proud night for a family that started from almost nothing to see the first generation Americans and sons of farmers grow up on their own hard work and effort to get to the place they were. Nothing got handed to them and because of that, the draft party was that much sweeter. When the 1st pick was announced to be Antonio, the whole roof almost blew off the house and the decibel levels were higher than that in the Yellowknife stadium, even though that is really easy to reach. His whole life he waited for this moment, and he had finally reached it surrounded by all that got him there. (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - JuOSu - 05-23-2018 My draft party was not crazy or extravagant. I spent the evening at home with my family, watching the draft on the TV and occasionally texting with different people in the league. One of which was fellow rookie Benson Bayley who I got along with well during that time and had created a bit of a connection with. The thought was that the Sabercats would draft him and maybe they would draft me with the very next pick. How amazing would that be, two friends back to back. But as the night went on, it became clear that was not gonna be the case. I heard different rumors about Sabercats, Outlaws and Otters wanting to draft me. In the end, the Otters drafted me and Molarpistols called me and welcomed me to the Otters and wished me the best. Happiness spread throughout the draft party and my family hugged and cheered. I was a first rounder and would be in the NSFL. My family was very happy though there was also some sadness. I would be moving far away from home, all the way from beautiful Dublin, Ireland all the way to sunny Orange County on the West Coast of the US, with 8 hours of time difference now between us. (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - CptSquall - 05-23-2018 For Alsan Arshad, A draft Day party should be like an Ultimus Cup party. Getting ready for the DSFL draft may not have the same fanfare as a true NSFL job, but it is still a special moment. Friends and Family all gather around to host a barbecue at the massive Memphis home. Steaks, Sausages, Grilled Veggies, and those famous Memphis style wings, as well as a ton of coleslaw were all on tap and don't forget the beer. Games ranging from the usual lawn darts and bean bag tosses, as well as pick up football are all there for enjoyment. All this by the large, in ground, family pool. Few people know that Alsan is quite the cook and will be the master griller for this special day. Might keep his mind off the wait. Rumors about several teams being interested in the young Wide Receiver have been out in the media and his agent, Squally, has been working around the clock, wheeling and dealing to have everything ready and covered for him. having talked to 3 or 4 teams Mr. Arshad is well received and should find himself as a solid First or high Second rounder in what should be one hell of a draft day party. WC: 209 (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - twiggin56 - 05-23-2018 On draft day I plan to be with my close family and girlfriend, have some nice buffalo wings sat out on the tables with the tv on full blast. I imagine waiting for my name to be called will be a moment like no other. This isn’t like getting picked first or last for kickball when you were in middle school. This is a professional football league, that I have a chance to play in the sport I love. I want the people I love with me when this moment happens, I’ll have the draft caps of every team and whichever one takes a chance on me that’ll be the first hat I put on. It’ll be my last meal of eating junk food until after I retire, because I will be 100% focused on my football career. (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - Bwestfield - 05-23-2018 My draft party was off the hook. I had friends and family from all around the country fly in and watch the draft with me as I waited for my name to be called. I waited anxiously and impatiently like a small child. All roads in my life lead to this point. The time between each pick seemed like an eternity. Still I was glued to the television waiting excitedly. Picks came and gone with names that were not my own shouted into the microphone welcoming them to a team that was beginning. Some friends and family shuffled out the door as the time became late and people were becoming tired. The phrases like “don’t worry” and “stay in there” kept hitting me from all sides. I stayed glued to the television as the last of my friends and family left and I sat alone in the darkness as my wife and newborn son slept. Discouraged I picked up the remote to finally put myself down and out of my misery when my phone began to vibrate and it was the GM of the Orange County Otters. From then on it was an uphill battle but I had a chip on my shoulder and I was ready to prove it was all worth it. (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - CDub2 - 05-23-2018 I remember the S5 draft wuite well, even 3 seasons later. The draft was pretty stacked. Lots of stars in today's league were drafted in the first two rounds. Some heavy hitters went off the board early, and the second round was filled with some great TPE earners. That being said, Cameron Taylor was pretty relaxed during the draft. He knew he was going top 5. Everyone knew Andre Bly Jr. and Carlito Crush were going 1 and 2. Baltimore was pretty high on John Wachter, another Portland Python legend. So that left Cameron Taylor at 4. There was a fairly sizeable gap of TPE between the top 4 and the rest of the draft so it was pretty safe to assume Taylor was heading to Yellowknife in the off season. So Taylor spent draft day back home in Canada with his family. He went out to the rink in the morning to get a little pick up hockey game in, then a workout, then a BBQ with friends and family while streaming the draft. All in all, pretty relaxed mostly because the draft had already laid itself out pretty well before hand. Picks 5-16 were much more tumultuous, but the top 4 were pretty much set in stone. 210 (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - GoonerBear - 05-23-2018 On Draft Day, why not be at a bar WITH friends and family? I'm just finishing out things here at UT-Austin before the draft, anyway. I'm happy they came all the way across Louisiana to be with me for the draft, even though it may be a while for me as a late entrant. Even if 6th Street is gonna be packed like an iPhone opening, that's the place to be tonight. Before we go there, though, we're going out to dinner on Guadalupe Street so we can stomach more drinks on 6th. We'll hit up Texadelphia along The Drag first for a cheesesteak so we've got plenty under us. We're gonna hit up the Dirty Sixth so we get as much drink as we can handle and maybe more. We plan a bar crawl along the street, moving on after every round or two of the draft, regardless of who comes up. I'm sure we'll be pretty tanked and ready to celebrate by the time my name comes up, and I'll be happy enough with where I go. It'll be a rough morning after, though I prefer to think of it as "getting it out of my system while I can." Already finished with my senior season at Texas and ready to start building my legacy here. (S8) - PT 1 - Draft Party - Bayley - 05-23-2018 Going into the Season 3 Draft, I had no idea what to expect. Having talked to a couple teams including the San Jose Sabercats and Arizona Outlaws, I had no idea what was going to happen. I definitely took my friends and family to the draft party which we had a great party at the hotel before and after being drafted. I had no idea what to expect. I could hear my name called early, I could be waiting for a bit to even hear my name called. Once the third pick came up, with the third pick in the Season 3 NSFL Draft, the San Jose Sabercats select.. Benson Bayley, LSU. There was nothing but elation on my face. I was so happy to be picked by a fantastic franchise. I knew I was joining a team that I would have to sit behind John Canton, but there was a lot to learn. I knew this was the place for me. After that, my mom was so psyched that we were going to be moving and for my future. I hugged her first with one of my best friends sitting by my side. They all were so happy. This was my draft party, I could not have had better company. Quote:Words: 211 |
