The Yeti haven't been perfect, but we have improved leaps and bounds from our streak of consecutive losses and held together a core of guys during a period that would have seen other teams' users go IA, or perhaps even orchestrate a mass retirement.

You can shake your head at some of the Yeti HO's decisions, but anyone in the know wouldn't do so regarding the Smallwood issue. We had just signed Grau, who had opted not only to be a part of the team rather than forcing our hand in a trade so he could play WR elsewhere, but also went so far as to position switch to RB. All signs pointed to him being our bell-cow back for seasons to come, and regardless, we couldn't supplant him after his decision to position switch for the good of the team.

Most importantly, though, there was the issue of tlk's frequent (whether justified or not, and it's all in the past anyway) attacks on the Yeti in the public domain. After spending several seasons languishing at the bottom of the league and trying to keep our LR positive in spite of it, the last thing we wanted to do was drop the LR-health equivalent of a nuclear bomb in Colorado.

I'm excited to be a part of the Yeti GM team moving forward. And as any good GM should, I scour these threads for the gems of insight and outsider perspective among the otherwise entertaining hyperbole.

Good stuff. I am super glad Yeti have been able to turn things around, that’s no small feat

Everything here. Tlk has always been anti yeti in the public eye, and I was not interested in bringing in someone who has been that way for some time. Also like dropbear said, grau was thought to be our long term back, we would've gotten a lot of negativity from the public if we just made grau switch to rb, and then immediately put him in a backup role which was what he was trying to avoid at wr...I even personally messaged tlk to tell him this, yet let's all get on the bash yeti bandwagon because it's what people like to do.

And that's just factually incorrect.

Garden* and LeClair come to mind on offense

*You can make a case that Garden was signed well past his prime and he didn't do as much - but I'd take the WR of LeClair who finished top 7 in yards consistently over a defensive player who is producing middle of the pack numbers.

I think you're right. If I remember correctly, Browning was the first Hawks FA. Which makes you only the second. So...not a lot of competition for your claim. Top two at least.

nope browning was traded as well. I was the first Hawks FA, and their only FA. Garden was traded before he could play.

LOL factually incorrect when it's literally impossible for him to be wrong.

Historically, we have failed to land FAs for whatever reason. Asipi was the first active FA the Hawks ever signed. He literally doesn't have any competition for this accolade.

Back on topic though, this airing out of grievances was interesting. Without knowing the details behind the scenes, I'd agree with Daybe about the decision making. I imagine some of it can be explained in such a way that makes it seem less like a bad option, but I don't think it's unfair to point these things out at all.

I'm not about to tell people how to GM but it seems like maybe some of the senior players would benefit from being involved in the decision making process a bit more. Assuming they're not already.

We have a leadership group comprised of both GMs and typically 2 representatives from offense and defense, so typically 6 at a time.

And Daybe is a part of it, and has been during most if not all of the events he's listed.
