There is literally no winning if you're the head office. I used to read through the previous punishment threads and there is always complaining regardless of the decision.
I mean just look at the YoungTB fake retirement thread. People were bitching that HO didn't punish him with the full penalty outlined in the rules. Now people are bitching that HO did punish Er with the full penalty. The rules are there for a reason, everyone has access to them, and it isn't like they are a monster read. Follow them and you won't get punished, simple as that.

Since I keep getting PM'D about "F HO" I figured I'd post at least one more time.
I'm not mad at HO at all, and I don't really think that this punishment was really their decision anyway? I'm also honestly not mad about the appeal ruling either.
I absolutely broke a rule that was spelled out in the rule book and some form of punishment is appropriate. In a vacuum I do not think a 143 TPE loss (which is pretty freaking severe) is fitting of the violation. Working in this "vacuum" I think such a large TPE fine is far too harsh when you consider the punishments for things like creating a bunch of multis (I think a 1 season suspension resulted in less TPE loss, at the very least it wasn't TPE being taken away because I didn't have to do anything during that time) or editing TPE claim threads were both less.
I think the punishments for those other two referenced offenses that had a much more advantageous results for their users and larger impacts on the league should be punished more harshly than not updating/hitting contract minimums. Much of the time I was over the contract threshold I had not applied any of that TPE and nobody was befitting from some sort of discount (I honestly have no idea when I went over the 800 TPE and how much money SJ "saved" from all of this, was it just $1,000,000 this season?).
I realize that most of what I said is written pretty....unclearly, but hopefully my point gets through. In the end, I think some form of adjustment to the rule should be made to include a max TPE amount, or some consideration allowed for intent (I.E. if somebody accepts a contract and immediately updates and it is clearly circumvention a hefty punishment may be appropriate). I don't have a great solution to the wording of that rule, but I think you guys can figure something out. It would be unfortunate for somebody who has more concern for their player/TPE than me to do seasonal updates or something and get slapped with another big TPE fine like this for being a bit more casual of a user.
Out of the "vacuum," on a personal level I cannot really complain about the fairness of punishments. I got a pretty lenient punishment in the past and I am alright chalking this up to a "make-up call." Though I'm sure those involved may not outright see it that way.
In the end, I'm glad my team wasn't punished twice. They already drafted me and I had been lazy about updating to help the team which was punishment enough. I hope the HO/GMs/Puppetmasters/Whoever else makes rules here considers making some change this rule so other casual updaters (@Sweetwater you better keep taking those big $ contracts) don't get a massive penalty for what should probably be a slap on the wrist.

The problem here is the consistency with which rules are applied. If previous (more egregious) violations were more lenient in their punishment distribution, is it reasonable to expect a strict constructionist stance for any violation? Consistent to their decisions in the past, I would expect leniency, or should there be no consistency to rules violations and everyone is subject to the whimsy of HO/the appeals team?

I have this weird feeling that not saving up literally 3 months of tpe would go a long way aswell

Like you can't just store up TPE to sign a new contract and circumvent the cap, it's obvious and literally every league would stop that in it's tracks
You can store up TPE over time, just don't sign a new contract/regress and then claim it all

I guess my point is, I dont go into the season thinking "I'll just save up my tpe for the season and update for the next one". I just dont think about updating until I realize I've just simmed the ultimus and go "oh shit, I forgot all about this"

It's oke I`m just really defensive about staying on jcink. I don't think anyone would think that, I get that stuff can just kinda slip.
