S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Modern_Duke - 09-24-2019 3) All about the QBs The season 17 Ultimus featured a premier quarterback matchup between Orange County's Franklin Armstrong and Baltimore's Corvo Havran. Armstrong had a challenging year in his first season as starting QB for the Otters, ranking 9th out of 10 in QB Rating and only completing 53.5% of his passes - a sharp contrast to the high flying Otter offense of previous years led by Gus T.T. Showbiz. Meanwhile, Havran completed nearly 60% of his passes for the Hawks, lead the league in QB Rating and tied for the league lead in passing touchdowns with 31. However, in the Ultimus Armstrong had the upper hand in this head to head matchup. Baltimore aired it out early and often and ended with a lopsided 52 to 11 pass/rush ratio. This strategy seemed to play exactly into Orange County's hands though, as Havran had only 25 completions on 52 attempts. Havran's 376 yards show that big chunks of yards were picked up when he did connect, but at the end of the day (and even with 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions) Havran's QB rating was a pedestrian (for him) 85.1. Armstrong, on the other hand, was a model of efficient play, picking up nearly 11 yards per pass attempt (287 yards on 27 attempts), 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, for a superb 135.9 QB rating. This amazing effort was enough to earn player of the game honors. 8) Draft Focus Rather than look at the S18 draft class, I want to focus on the draft needs of my San Antonio Marshals that could hopefully be filled in the incoming S19 rookie class. We had a solid team overall, with a lot of talent on offense, including the best running back duo in the league. The defense also performed well, allowing the second fewest points per game and ranking third in yards per game allowed. The pass defense especially handled itself well, as the Marshals allowed the second fewest passing yards per game. The real culprit for any defensive struggles however was the rushing defense, which allowed 195 yards per game, the second worst mark in the league. For that reason, I would like to see San Antonio address the defensive tackle position in the upcoming DSFL draft. The Marshals are without their first round pick after a mid season trade, but hopefully with on their first picks they can pick up someone to plug up those running lanes. The only current defensive tackles on the roster are not particularly talented inactives, whose spots could easily be replaced by some new talent. The Marshals already have some talented linebackers, but that could be another position to focus on to improve the run defense, especially if some of the current linebackers move up to the NSFL. 10) Rivalries I have a bit of a history with Tijuana. As a prospect, I was scouted by almost every team, but in particular Tijuana took an interest and I had some good conversations with them. The good conversations, plus them being the reigning Ultimini champions made them my number one desired landing spot. Those words are hard to type now, considering how everything played out. On draft night, Tijuana had a string of back to back picks in the fifth round where I though I may have been targeted. However, Tijuana traded the 28th pick and San Antonio picked me instead. So who am I to complain? Everything worked out great, I came into a fantasic locker room and flourished as top cornerback for the Marshals. But I definitely had those games against the division rival Luchadores circled on my calendar. Vindication came my way in week 2, as the Marshals easily handled the Luchadores 44-20. However, after an unsatisfying 20-20 tie in week 6, Tijuana took the final two head to head matchups and thereby the season series, as well as the division title. But we had our shot to make everything right again in the playoffs, and unfortunately fell just short, mainly due to some questionable in-game decisions. Tijuana then got lucky again in the Ultimini, but will surely come crashing down next season. 19) Kickers are people too! Orange County Otters kicker Alex Dasistwirklichseinnachname had a solid regular season, missing only two extra points and two field goals (both of which were over 40 yards). However, [for simplicity's sake let's just call him Alex] really shined as a punter, leading the league with an average of 48.9 yards per punt, over 2 yards better than the second highest finisher, Austin's Alfredo "Thighmaster" Crisco. In the quarterfinals against San Jose, Alex was perfect with 2 extra points and 2 short field goals. Alex also had five punts for a surprisingly low 43.8 average, but that does include a 62 yarder and one that was downed inside the 20 yard line. In the semifinal against rival Arizona, Alex missed an extra point, but shined brightly in the punting game, where a booming 67 yard punt bumped his average to over 51 yards, with another one downed inside the 20 for good measure. Alex had a quiet game in the Ultimus, but was not asked to do much, with zero field goal attempts as Orange County had no problem finishing drives in the end zone. Alex did everything that you would need from your kicker/punter in the playoffs, and most importantly: he didn't screw it up. If completed before the airing of the sims have predictions, after if it is a review of the game. So I will be focusing on the Luchadores for my predictions. I know it is late since I am posting this after the semis but I did predict that the Luchadores would beat San Antonio because one of these teams is respectable and always does well in regulars and play-offs and the other is in Texas. However, I will make a prediction on the final between the Tijuana Luchadores and Portland Pythons. I sadly have to go for the Pythons in this final. Whilst I hope the Luchadores can upset they are against the best team in the regular season who basically had a bye week in the first play-off game against a trash Coyotes team. These two teams are the only minor league teams you can give any hint of respect (Maybe when Woelkers takes over SA they can gain respect though!) but I can see the Pythons just simply winning the Ultimini. I really hope I am wrong though. Luchadores do have a great team and have players that can easily get them past the Pythons but the same can easily just be said for Portland's players too. I think even if an upset happens this game will be very close regardless of who wins and should be quite hype. [214 words] 2) Underdog Written: Write about one of the away teams in any match up and explain why they can win. Must be completed before the sim. I will pick Tijuana again since I know more about them. I was a former player last season on this very team and the people that stayed on this team. (J. MCcann, the QB) can have great games where he is popping off. The loss of Laszlo was a bit of a hit for them but he still does have people he can rely on to catch the pigskin. This is completely missing 1 of the biggest guns on the team. My boi Donut who has 1400+ yards in the regular season. Luchadores love to rush. Annoyingly a lot in my experience actually. But that is because they usually do have a great running back to be able to do it. Donut is no different from Forest Gump when he was playing for us. Any of these guys have the ability to win a game for the Luchadores and in the biggest match of the season it will be important they do show up if they are to have any chance of doing the back-to-back championships. Oh, and just to give an honourable mention. Luchadores still have Ben Tu'inukuafe. A dude who has been there at what I think is max cap build for minors and is still holding the team strong. This most likely will not happen but I think he will pop off in what is probably his last ever game! [235 words] 7) Next year Written: If your team has been eliminated, why will the next year, or the year after that, be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus or Ultimini. Finally, a spicy option. The Yeti in the previous season were considered a joke. Even being in the 'toilet bowl' vs Austin for last place. That all changed this season with the introduction of the Bubba42 era. Bubba Thumpa moved up from minors as did Laszlo Forty-Two. This also greatly increased the locker room activity and both became captains in the rookie season. We are committed to making what many think have been a punching bag into a serious fucking threat. We have the best youth core in the league. Bar none. Possibly not next season but coming soon the Yeti will continue to improve. The 500% increase in wins was a lot and next season we are looking to be a respectable play-off contending team before we eventually WILL be a title contender. A lot of the season 18 rookies want in on the core and when we all hit our prime we will be looking very scary against anyone. The Bubba42 era is an era the Yeti faithful have been dreaming about for a long, long time and now in a few seasons time we will be contending for the actual Ultimus title for a long, long time. This is not including the people who end up joining us too thanks to the core being on low contracts going forward. Until then though our QB sucks, right? :^) [231 words] 8) Draft Focus Written: What areas of your team has the biggest holes that you are hoping get filled in the upcoming gigantic S18 draft? What round are you hoping it’s filled? This upcoming draft is a big 1. The past two drafts the Yeti have been 1 of the teams to really get it right. Drafted Laszlo and Wolfie in the very dead season 16 draft and getting Bubba Thumpa last season. This means that the Colorado Yeti have the score they need but just need a few more pieces from this insanely stacked draft to finish the puzzle and have a core that will last the Yeti a generation of seasons. I personally have zero clue who we will be drafting this time round. Genuinely. It is just made a lot harder by multiple positions having great options this draft. I like the look of a couple of attacking weapons. Perhaps Zach Hall who is a TE or Bex who is a running back. Either one of these won make sure we would have an insane offence in future seasons when the core finally hits the prime. The mid round picks are also greatly important as the quality of this draft turns to Quantity of options. I would like to give Bubba more people to lead so our D can really become one of the best as well. I do not really know many defensive players since that is not something I know much about but I think if the Yeti can nail this 1 draft we are looking super scary going forward. [233 words] S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Bwestfield - 09-25-2019 1. Underdog The morning sun rises over the dew filled fields in Baltimore. Smoke stacks pumping out noxious greenhouse gases and cars beeping as they are in a rush to get to work. This is the setting between two underdogs going into the season finale. The Ultimus Championship game. The Baltimore Hawks versus the Orange County Otters. Both teams are no stranger to the Ultimus. Both teams know each other well and have been looking to claim their rightful championship titles. Both teams coming into the playoffs as underdogs and winning their respective games. The hawks have the edge here with their explosive offense. The Otters will have to keep them from scoring early to make this game competitive. The Otters can win this game based on their rich history of winning and great game planning. In a year that they were looking to rebuild and possibly not even make the playoffs they utilized they talent they still had left and gameplanned against their opponent most magnificently. The players are good, but the coaches are better. The only chance that the Hawks have is to dominate with their star receivers and attempt to blow the top off the Otters secondary. There can only be one champion and I predict it will be just like the playoff games before it. An underdog victory. 2. Next year I often write about the Colorado Yeti having their year next year. Last year I wrote about the Yeti making a playoff berth in S17 and an Ultimus push in S18. The S17 prediction came true. We did see a vast improvement over a season ago. It was not as much of an improvement that I was expecting. But it was a great improvement nonetheless. The S18 Yeti will look to be a much more dominant force with new GM’s at the helm and a more polished Wolfie McDummy. Wolfie is a key in making everything work in Colorado. In this league passing is clutch. Running can only get you so far. Having a player like terry Taffy is a luxury but we cannot rely on him all the time. So it will be up to the veteran Bishop, the dominating Laszlo and the reliable Palmer to help get Wolfie passed this next hurdle. Colorado looks to add a bunch of key players in this upcoming draft. This draft class is arguably the best the league has ever seen. It is filled with talent of all positions at every level. It will be interesting to see where they go with their plethora of mid-round picks. There is also Free Agency to think about. Colorado could add some great players in this year’s Free Agency pool. 3. Trades It is important to note that in the Ultimus game this year. Baltimore will be at home against the Orange County Otters. Earlier in year Vinny Valentine was sent to Baltimore. Now the Otters will have to defend their old star wide receiver. On top of that they will also need to cover Errol Maddox. This will be a significant hurdle as the Otters secondary, while great in initial view, is not as good as the duo of Vinny and Errol. Vinny and Errol are two amazing players that will be known around the league like Bradley Westfield and former Baltimore Hawk, Trey Willie. It is not yet known whether Errol and Vinny will be Hall of Fame inductees but they will certainly leave their mark on the league. The Otters might be kicking themselves right now having made that transaction that may have guaranteed the Hawks position in the Ultimus. Baltimore may make out this year but it will help the Otters in the long run. Vinny is getting older and won't be around too many more years. If the Otters win this matchup they will certainly look like bigger geniuses than they already are. The Otters do things a little differently than the rest of the league but they are constant winners. Maybe the rest of the league should take notice. 4.) Robbed This years Ultimus shows two underdogs and playoff away teams. Both home teams feel robbed of their chances of winning the Ultimus. I had to choose one team that was robbed more than another, it would be the Arizona Outlaws. The Outlaws are a better team than they were last year when they did win the Ultimus. The Otters are sending away players to other teams looking for future picks to help a rebuild effort to keep the team strong. On the other side The Hawks are a great team and so are the Wraiths. The Wraiths should have won that game because they are indeed better, however they were just outplayed. The Wraiths will try and come back stronger next year. Back to the true team that was robbed, the Outlaws. The Outlaws were heavy favorites and was expected by analysts to win the Ultimus. However they did not even make it passed the game against the Otters. There will be some changes on all teams next year. We will see if the Outlaws can make use of those changes to be not only the best team, again, but an even better team going into the playoffs. How can you lose to a rebuilding team, that is a question the Outlaws will have to answer all year until they are able to redeem themselves. S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Jonny2x - 09-25-2019 Task 1 - PBE Affiliate Task 2 - Playoff Reviews: For the second season in a row the Chicago Butchers were ousted from the playoffs in very disappointing fashion. Sam Torenson had quite possibly his worst game of his short career and certainly did not pull his share for his franchise. 75 yards is not what Sam expects of himself and not what his teammates have come to expect of him. The Chicago defense did not hold up its end of the bargain either, allowing a whopping forty points! Possibly, the defense tired down the stretch giving up the most points during the regular season in the last week against Orange County by allowing 38. Then the very next week in the wildcard game they gave up a whopping 40 points. They were put in a tough position at times by offensive turnovers but still looked less than themselves. It is true, the offense couldn’t get out of its own way starting the game with 4 straight punts. However, there were no turnovers or terrible field position to be blamed. This was also one of the worst games our quarterback Rose Jenkins had on the season. After finishing the season in top 3 of quarterback rating, she struggled to the tune of a 52.3 rating. It seems unbelievable all these things could go wrong suddenly in the same game but they did and the results were disheartening. Task 3 - That Magic Moment: Well the Ultimus MVP is a no brainer, non-argument, only one possible candidate, and absolute lockdown of a choice in Franklin Armstrong. It is literally impossible to play a more well-rounded high impact football game than this guy did. It is awesome to write about this guy and his career. Franklin is a good friend of Sam’s and at one point even convinced him to stick with the game of football. Sam was feeling really down about the game when he ended up on the same Pythons team as Franklin. Franklin was a real pick me up when Sam needed it most, even helping convince Sam to make the change from defensive tackle to running back. It is awesome to be starring in this league alongside a good friend but back to this amazing game. Franklin went 17/27 for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns! You simply are not supposed to put up those kinds of numbers in an Ultimus. Normally, the team on the other side has a stout defense and Baltimore was no exception this year. But wait, there is more, while all-pro Apollo Reed was finding it tough sledding against the underrated Hawks run defense, Franklin chipped in with another 48 yards rushing and a touchdown. There was simply no answer for the best player in the biggest game! Task 4 - Well, I just arrived in Philadelphia so I haven’t had long to look scout the team at all but I think with my arrival on the offensive side of the ball it is easy to see this draft should be defensive heavy for us. At quick glance of the defense it is obvious how stacked our secondary is. With 3 pro bowl caliber players already and young Julian McMorris slotting in at weak side corner we are done looking for any sort of needs in the secondary. That leaves Philadelphia looking at Linebacker or Defensive line. Luckily for us there are a couple of studs available at each one of these positions. Maurice Virtanen at linebacker and Bjorn Ironside at defensive tackle. With the number 2 pick one of these guys will obviously be available. It looks like Ironside has made quite the name for himself and seems to be the consensus number one pick. Philadelphia will happily scoop up Virtanen, the TPE leader at the more TPE heavy linebacker position. Later on in the draft I could see Philadelphia taking a kicker or a tight end but currently there doesn’t seem to be any high end prospects. Possibly making a trade for an already established player at the tight end position will come to be. S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - slothfacekilla - 09-25-2019 1. PBE JPT since PT has a bonus 2. Code: 5) Stupid Tiebreaker! I am still pretty heated about this, but apparently how this league breaks ties to decide who goes to the playoffs (well the tie from the start of the year) by wins and losses. What the hell? That seems a bit unfair to me, especially since when I look at the index the New Orleans Second Line only won four games last season, so they did not make the playoffs. Crazy right? I was absolutely shocked that we did not make the playoffs simply because we had the least amount of wins this season. Sports am I right? What SHOULD have been the tie breaker is that all teams that are located in New Orleans should win the championship, no need to even hold the playoffs. I think that seems the most fair for everyone here. If the league does not like that proposal, the tie breaker to win the championship should be whatever team has a player with the last name Slothface. I really think that would leave everyone happy with a sense of great accomplishment. It would relieve a lot of stress of the teams too I would imagine (except for bidding for this Slothface player in free agency I guess). Either way the league should look into this weird win / loss thing they have going on. (219 words) 3. Code: 7) Next year I think the New Orleans Second Line will win the Ultimus next year (especially if the league adopts my proposals above). Why do I think this? Well we are a fairly young team overall, so a bunch of our picks from the last draft have slowly been improving. They should provide a much needed talent boost next season in the big easy. I think that our defense has a real chance to be a top unit in the NSFL next season if we all keep working hard in the weight room and on the practice field. I know I am pretty motivated to have a better season, so I'm hoping that I can kind of help lead the charge in that respect. We also have the first pick in the upcoming NSFL draft (hell ya for being the worst baby) so I think we are going to add not only a real strong talent at one overall, but we will add a brilliant mind to the squad too. Just speculation but I am excited about that. Also, I think we were in a few close games last season that didn't bounce our way, so I'm hoping the sim is more kind to us in the upcoming season. Lastly, I really hope that free agents take us seriously because I do think we are really right there as far as being successful. The war room last off season put together a few good free agent pitches that should have worked, hopefully we are more successful this season with those signings. (259 words) 4. Code: 1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews: I am going to recap the Ultimus game between the Orange County Otters and the Baltimore Hawks (wow I had to look up where the Hawks are from, I am just the best NSFL user). The Otters marched into Baltimore and snatched the trophy away from the Hawks with a super consistent offensive performance: they scored a touchdown in every quarter to end up winning the game 28-17. Their defense pitched shutouts in quarters two and four as well, so overall their team did pretty damn well to earn the victory on the road. Rookie quarterback Franklin Armstrong had himself a day for the Otters, throwing for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. Armstrong also added a touchdown of his own on the ground to round out the complete OC scoring. All three of his throwing touchdowns went to different receivers, and their rushing attack was fairly evenly spread out among the two running backs and the quarterback. It is actually pretty dang impressive to see a very balanced offense on the road, and I'm guessing this is why they are champions. Overall the Otter defense was solid. They didn't have any takeaways and only three sacks, so they just thrived on stifling the Hawks offense with punts I guess, although it looks like both teams punted the same amount. A fun thing with the Otters defense is they don't have anyone tied for tackles until you get to 1: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and 1. So that is neat I guess. (258 words) S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - TropicaliaCC - 09-25-2019 4. Graphic S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - White Cornerback - 09-25-2019 CHOOSE 4 TASKS, EACH WILL BE REWARDED 2.5 TPE FOR COMPLETION FOR A MAXIMUM OF 10 TPE Some of these tasks are the same as last season, and some are new, let me know if you have any ideas for future tasks! Rules: 1) Written tasks must be at least 200 words (No exceptions and no partial credit, not that hard to get to 200 words). 8) Draft Focus Written: What areas of your team has the biggest holes that you are hoping get filled in the upcoming gigantic S18 draft? What round are you hoping it’s filled? Graphics: Create a graphic showing the holes in your team and what rounds they need to target those replacements. In terms of Austin's draft needs heading into the S18 Draft. I think realisitically you have to look at the WR spot. Currently the receiver corps are led by the S12 Django who has just a year left before his 770 tpe self hits regression. By that point the currently 622 tpe, S15 receiving Rod Tidwell will take over. Realistically you'd like a third wide receiver plucked from the S18 Draft that would sit in the #2 spot with Django @ the 3 when he's in regression. You could pick up a second TE but it's not really a need. Wizardry (1097,S12), Kuusela (559, S12) and Henry (218, S14) currently make up the new look Copperheads defensive line. After S18, Wizardry and Kuusela will be in their first year of regression and ignoring the fact that they literally need atleast one more DE/DT to start a front four. Austin has to pick up a defensive linemen this draft, preferably an active. S14, 512 tpe Bakshi & S17 306 tpe Honda Edmond are the Copperheads sole linebackers and that needs to change. While it will be a considerable while before Bakshi hits regression (3 seasons), Austin definetly needs to snag another linebacker to complete their three, especially since A.J. Robertson is now a free agent meaning there's just two linebackers on their roster. 9) Enemies Written: Not everyone loves each other, write 200 words on an opposing player or player in this year's playoffs about how they will struggle, why do you want them to lose? (Don't be too mean). Graphic: Create a graphic of a player showing maybe they are overrated with statistical back up, or a statistical prediction of what they will do in the game. Heading into the S17 playoffs, yep you guessed it. The Austin Copperheads watched the playoffs eagerly awaiting the absolute collapse of the Chicago Butchers. Of course the player we focused on was none other than the captain of the Butchers, Rose Jenkins, the QB. It didn't take her long to struggle either. She struggled early and often and finished the game with an absolutely pathetic 18/37 for passes for 186 yards , 1 interception and zero touchdowns. The Butchers got absolutely smashed apart 40-6 to the dominant Baltimore Hawks. Now I bet you''re wondering to yourself, why are we hating on Rose? Why does Jenkins get all the hate? Is it because she's a women? No of course not. We wanted her to lose because we hate the Chicago Butchers with a passion and she is the natural leader of the team so our hate is centered solely around her. It is nothing personal , Jenkins but it's easily the easiest person to hate on any major sports team. WE HATE YOU ROSE JENKINS AND I HOPE YOU KNOW THIS, WE HOPE YOU DRAG THIS FRANCHISE DOWN TO THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN. YOU STRUGGLED MIGHTILY IN THE PLAYOFFS AND THAT IS CLEARLY JUST A LITTLE SIGN OF WHAT TRULY IS TO COME NEXT, ENJOY YOUR MEDIOCRITY WHILE IT LASTS BECAUSE IT GETS EVEN WORSE FROM S18 ONWARDS. 10) Rivalries Written: Write about another team and why they are overrated and why you want them to lose. Graphic: Show a statistical representation of why said team is overrated. The Chicago Butchers are the Copperheads obvious rivalry being that we both entered the league in the same season. Chicago took a quicker and incredibly dumb route of trading the house in order to compete early. So they took all the highest TPE players in the expansion draft regardless of age, traded their picks for current stars. They basically yeti'd themselves but worse. Now most of their players are in heavy regression and not one but two knucklehead GM's stepped down basically cucking the franchise because Jiggly is now their GM. In his first act as general manager he makes arguably the worst trade in NSFL history (definetly top 3) trading for a running back who is three years in regression and will be barely 500tpe this offseason. They traded their stud RB in Torenson who's 600 tpe and just finishing his second season in the NSFL. An incredibly poor trade. I think why the reason we want them to lose and fail goes much deeper, mostly because of the arrogance shown by the original GM's asif they knew what they were doing before they fell flat on their faces and put the franchise up shits creek without a paddle. That is the reason we want Chicago to fail now and forever. 17) Robbed Written: Write about why your team was robbed from making the Playoffs, how did the sim screw you and why were you more deserving. Graphic: Explain with a graphic why your team was better than a playoff team. So let's tie this down at the mast. The Austin Copperheads were robbed by more than the sim. It was a collective robbery masterminded by Head Office. Nah but in all reality we got absolutely cucked by whoever it was didn't update our team or said they did and lied about doing it at all. For any of you that aren't aware. What happened with week 1 was that whoever our updated was absolutely bumfucked the life out of our entire team by lying asif they had actually updated us when they didn't. We then entered week 1 way down TPE wise and got molested. Head Office noticed the issue through prompting and then re-simmed with us yeeting NOLA back the Legion days. Then it turned out that alot of teams were fucked but (none anywhere near the level of Austin by any exxageration) so they in the end decided to double fuck us by keeping the sim 1 results and deleting our first victory in franchise history. Now this was one of the rare times where the sim didn't directly fuck us, but it did fuck us by extension because had it been designed that updating players could be quicker and through csv then whoever the fuck failed to do their job would've been sussed out before game 1 sims. As a result the Austin Copperheads finished 5-8, had they won they would've been 6-7 which is tied with the San Jose Sabercats. Now prior to this I was going to research how the tiebreakers were but I couldn't be fucked and this fits my agenda because Austin was 1000% fucked by the sim thank you. Gump and Stan are good cornerstones in the offense and Slothface along with our young defense will be a force soon enough. Ennis is improving on defense trying to prove the draft day trade was a good one and Jackson is trying to live up to the hype that he built up before the draft. We will definitely be more competitive this season and set us up for the playoffs in the near future.we still have a lot of hope and excitement in our locker room and with another good draft this season who knows what will happen. A lot of people will have us at the bottom and honestly I would to but we will embrace the underdog role. We had a lot of close games that we just couldn’t finish off but that will all change this season. The sim gods will be nicer(please) and we can put games away instead of giving up leads in the second half. It’s up to us to come together as a team and win. PBE PT |
