(S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality - evryday - 12-12-2019 Normally I would be upset with my statistical output from the first two weeks but it makes sense seeing as though I hadn’t yet cleared the physical in order to make me eligible to play the first two games. I struggled a bit with the stress test portion of the physical since I packed on a few pounds since my college days. I guess I wasn’t quite used to running with the extra weight. They also wanted me to take a pee test, which I had to schedule for another day. I just told them I was taking medication for a cold that might have popped on the test and rather than end up failing it I wanted to come back and deal with it once I was feeling better. However, once I did get that all taken care of, and I was eligible to play, I had a bit of a disappointing second game. We played the Kansas City Coyotes and while did record six tackles, none of them were for a loss and I wasn’t able to come up with a sack. Normally this would be fine but the week before I recorded a sack, it was my first ever game so it was exciting. To follow that up with a goose egg in the sack column the next week is a bit of a let down. But I won’t let that keep me down and I’ll keep on pushing. I was stepping into a WR3 role on one of the most high powered offense with an elite QB, the sky was the limit. 1000 yard season? Rookie of the year? Nothing seemed out of reach on an offensive powerhouse. Once the first week of the season started things took a turn, Game 1. Pregame felt great but when the game started it hit me. This is why it’s the big leagues. The speed of the game, strength and talent of the other players caught me off guard. I finished the game with 1 reception for 14 yards and a costly penalty. The rest of the week didn’t fare too much better. Obviously with the high expectations I had put on myself it was a huge disappointment to not contribute more in my first few games on the team. But as my teammates have let me know I have to just put my head down, work hard and continue to grind it out at practice and the stats will come. Besides, who really cares what the stats look like as long as these Baltimore Hawks keep winning. (S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality - Jay_Doctor - 12-12-2019 So it was slightly difficult for me to find a disappointing game or statistical performance this season. There were two plays that I am not fond of against the Pythons this season, though. It all started with practice earlier in the week. Kyle Idlewyld has been itching to return a kick or punt. I remember he came in the first week of training camp and made it known he would like to get a shot in the return game at some point. Our coaching staff decided that if the team locked up home field advantage, Idlewyld would get his chance. The team hasn’t been buzzing about it much lately, as we have been pretty focused, but Kyle sure got the best of me on one of my returns For those who don’t know the rookie yet, I love the guy. He has a hard work ethic and he wants to win just as bad as anyone. Him, Deck and I like to compete to see who has the better game. With me returning punts and kicks, we can’t really argue much who is better in the return game right now. When we forced the Pythons to a 3 and out the first possession, I went for a return that I shouldn’t have. To make matters worse, I stumbled as I started planting my foot and stumbled. I ended up losing 3 yards on that first punt return. For a guy who prides himself on his returning abilities, I was pretty disappointed. I popped off for a 35-yard punt return later in the 2nd quarter and got my mojo back. Early in the 3rd quarter, we got another 3 and out. Before running back 40 yards to take the punt, I told Kyle to watch and learn. The Pythons punter boots the ball and I’m tracking it well. As the ball is past it’s peak, I hear a booming Kyle yell out “don’t trip”. Now I’m not sure what I processed when I hear him yell that out, but my brain told me to back away and let the ball bounce. I normally make that decision earlier in the ball’s arc and give myself plenty of time to get back. I caught myself an awkward distance away from the ball and it took a nasty sideways bounce right at me. I instinctively reach down to grab it, but while doing so I catch the left gunner in the corner of my eye. I juke back, immediately going into a spin move in hopes of not getting clobbered. I avoid the gunner, but I see another Python closing in fast. I try to angle backwards in hopes of outrunning him. He was going full speed at me and I was trying to get going from zero to one hundred. It didn’t end well. I had another negative return, this time I lost 4 yards. When we get over to the sidelines and I was pretty pissed. I’d rather call for a fair catch any day than give up yards on the return. I asked Kyle what the heck he was thinking. He fires back “What? I gave you sound advice. Don’t trip”. The way he delivered it cracked us both up and I felt at ease again. Going forward, we agreed no yelling anything on punt returns. I’m glad we got that figured out. Now if my punt returns suck, I’ll have to find a new excuse. (S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality - KillaScrilla - 12-12-2019 PBE pt (S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality - AdamS - 12-13-2019 Dick knew it was the end of the game as soon as he saw the refs inform the team that they would be utilizing an untested, unsigned, undrafted bot to play Running Back behind Mako. Obviously as a veteran team leader you can't just say that sort of thing, but Dick knew. Week 1 of every NSFL season had a tremendous amount of quirks and bugs that for some reason didn't get worked out in the preseason. he never could figure out why and so he'd stopped trying long ago. In this case he could immediately see the bot wasn't ready. Yet for the sometimes arbitrary seeming rules of the league, the poor thing would have to play. Dick would have even stepped in himself instead but while his mind still understood what it meant to be a runner at the highest level, his body wasn't built for that anymore. So he kept it to himself, and he played as best he could knowing that across the field a confident Colorado Yeti home team was getting to run with the next Marquis Brown freshly added to their roster. Well, until he left them too for the next glory anyway. Dick did his job as did every man in his unit and the team fought hard before coming up just short. The bot was absolutely outmatched and couldn't do anything in the 8 carries it had, and was never heard from again afterward. Not the poor thing's fault really. Just the way things went in the NSFL at times. (S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality - Bauer - 12-13-2019 PBE PT (S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality - Fordhammer - 12-13-2019 Nacho had his best season to date in S18, by quite a bit. He finished with 10 TDs, and about 1150 yards receiving. This earned him a Pro Bowl nod, as well as now being considered one of the best receivers in the league. Going into this season, Nacho seems to have all the tools. His speed is maxed, making him quicker than most on the field, his hands are also as good as they are going to get. For some reason, Nacho still drops quite a few passes that come his way. All that said, Nacho had one of the most disappointing performances of his career last week against the Wraiths. Obviously this was a huge win for the team, and he was fine with giving up personal numbers for the win, but let's go over his numbers for the game. It seems YKW went into the game with the goal to really slow Nacho down, as he was limited to only 4 receptions and 38 yards, which is the lowest yardage total in quite some time for Nacho. Fortunately for the Liberty, this freed up Fuzzy Dotson and Farley Hank to feast in the secondary. Each notching almost 100 yards. If these teams were to meet in the playoffs, they might need to consider a different strategy going into the game. (S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality - Hydracronis - 12-13-2019 Well, the biggest disappointment for former DSFL star A.C. Payton has not been in his play, but in his level of activity within the league. This is something I greatly regret, because I really do like football and do really enjoy the people in the NSFL and DSFL. I created back in I think season 15, but my greatest regret was retiring the day of the NSFL Draft. You see, I was not aware that the National Simulation Football League Draft took place ahead of the actual stream of the draft, so by the time that the stream rolled around, I thought my retirement would be beneficial to a team so that they wouldn't draft me. Instead, it was the exact opposite of beneficial for a team. I ended up losing a quarter of my TPE by the time I un-retired. So this is what I would consider my biggest disappointment. I am finally back and trying to be active within the NSFL and DSFL because I wanna be a star Tight End like my favorite players George Kittle and TJ Hockenson from the University of Iowa, my second favorite university behind my alma mater, the University of Missouri - Columbia.
