I went back and forth quite a bit on where I wanted the team to be located. At first, I thought, maybe go across the pond and add another team in the UK to rival the Royals or down south to Rival the Luchadores. Then it occurred to me, we have no Canadian teams. As I tried to decide on a city for Canada, I realized USA > Canada, so I went all the way through Canada and stopped in Alaska. I settled for Anchorage because it’s the biggest city and would be able to handle a pro team. There are lots of things that make Anchorage unique from all the other teams. I really wanted to do something with the Northern Lights, put I dislike two-word names for teams and figured the jerseys could have the northern lights coloring. Now, that’d be dope. There were also Totem Poles to consider and Eskimos, but I didn’t want to end up in a Washington Redskins situation. So, I ultimately settled for everyone’s favorite animal: a dog. Alaska is famous for its dog racing, aka, mushing. I like short, one syllable team names, so I shortened it to the Anchorage Mush. I considered Mush Dogs or Mushers, but they didn’t quite have the simplicity. Also, I really like team names that take an event with multiple moving parts and turn it into a singular application, like the Colorado Avalanche. In our case here, the Mush would be a set of well-trained dogs, working as a team, to beat their opponents. And before you say it, I know, it sets itself up for trash talk from rivals as mush is also a soggy form of cornbread. I’m not the owner or president of the team, so I’ll let the big wigs make the final decision on the team name, but it should have something to do with the sport of Mushing.

My expansion team would be the Buffalo Buffalo. You could call them the Buffalo for short I guess. They would play in Buffalo, Minnesota because there is already a pesky NFL franchise in New York's Buffalo. Luckily we have options and Minnesota has been able to house a DSFL team. They would play at the newly constructed "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo Field Stadium Arena Bowl." The concessions stands would only serve things that are covered in buffalo sauce and the mascot would of course be a buffalo.

The jerseys would be something like this with the word BUFFALO across the front for the team name:

The pants would just be plain black but in the future the franchise would add some wild retro pants:

I think a big plus for the Buffalo Buffalo franchise is that it is an easy to remember branding. Also I think the merchandise would sell really well due to it being a huge meme, and that's really what marketing is all about these days. It would definitely be a tough place to play with the elements, but we could use a lot of bribes to bring in high price free agents and flourish as a new franchise.

If I was the owner of an up and coming expansion franchise in the NSFL, i would put a team in Miami and call them the Miami Vice. The name is based on both the TV show and the name of the alternative city jerseys worn by the real life NBA team the Miami Heat. Miami (and Florida in general) is a great place for an NSFL or DSFL franchise because Florida itself is a great area for football, with teams like the Florida Gators and the Miami Dolphins in the state. The colors would be neon light blue and neon pink with some black on the accents, a unique color combination not used in the NSFL (or many other places for that matter).

My team would be a great team for expansion because of the branding it would bring with the color combination and the potential of the logos. You could have palm trees, sun and fun, and unique bright colors everywhere in the branding. It would definitely stand put from any other franchise currently. Another thing is that the branding would be more based on the concepts of sunny days and fun beaches then an animal or person like most of the other teams. In conclusion, the Miami Vice would be one of the most unique teams in the NSFL and would be an amazing team for expansion.

To determine where we want an expansion team, we must first determine what it is that the fans like. But we must narrow it down to unique experiences that can only be obtained in certain areas. For example, one of the most beloved events that fans love in football is “fat guy touchdowns”. Nothing beats the thrill of a 350lb lineman catching a touchdown as an eligible receiver, or a tank of a nose tackle catching an interception for a pick 6. However, this is something that cannot be controlled by the location of the franchise, only by rostering more fat guys.
In my opinion, there is only one place that can satisfy a unique fan love – Anchorage Alaska. People love watching games that take place in the snow. Watching a bunch of muscular and athletic players slip and slide and run through the white powder on the field is exhilarating. There is an easy way to increase the amount of snow games, and thus increasing the amount of fan enjoyment. We expand to an area with 75.5 inches of snowfall per year. It adds a location to give the poor fans in Alaska a much deserved opportunity to root for a local sports team with the added bonus of entertaining snow games on a more regular basis. Now we do not have to wait for a polar vortex to hit again to experience cold games again.
