RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - BigKicks - 09-07-2020 ![]() RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Legally_Blind_Gamer - 09-07-2020 Being new to the league, I am still at the ground floor when it comes to trying to understand what is who, and where is when. But I have collected quite a few trading cards in my day, and one type of trading card I never really saw that would be a good addition would be in creating League Leader cards. Basically you would have a card set that would have all the leaders in every category for every season, and then also have ones for each career best and all-time best for a range of stats. For example. A set of kicker cards that showcased each kicker's longest field goal, or most clutch winning kick, or best onside kick. You could expand this even further, have longest kick for a touchback, or even have some cards for players who broke other players previous records. The possibilities are endless. Another type of card set could be Unsung Heroes. Players who had great seasons, but never got into an All-Star Game, or never won a Championship, but were an integral part of their team, and helped them get farther than anyone else on their team. The league is comprised of hundreds of players, and they all have a role to play, but the Unsung Heroes cards could showcase their contributions that might otherwise go unnoticed. Code: 226 words. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Crunk - 09-07-2020 OK, I'll admit it. I don't collect Dotts, mainly because of the limitations of Google Chrome. As far as I understand it, the card series is entirely focused on players. That's great, but I feel it misses a trick. What about the defunct teams and current teams old branding? Surely that stuff is worth immortalising in a Dotts series of its own? Everyone loves nostalgia. With that, I propose the ISFL Classics card series, showcasing the above. Here's one I prepared earlier: ![]() RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - WhatAmUs - 09-07-2020 The DOTTS Trading Card system is admittedly a very unique and flashy way to expand interest in the league and increase league capital, however, it presents itself (at least in its current iteration) with a few glaring flaws. Now, every new concept and idea in the league is going to be belabored with growing pains and backlash, and I personally can see this system developing into a truly ubiquitously enjoyed experience. But the current issue lies in the fact that the value generated does not presently match the personal cost accrued, at least in my opinion. Real world trading cards are physical objects, with only a set number of each card produced, therefore creating intrinsic value. The cost of purchase can be justified with the intention of receiving a rarely printed card, or merely collecting a large amount of a finite resource. With the Dotts system being a digital medium, cards can easily be reproduced and redistributed ad nauseam, therefore inherently having little to no value. It could be possible in the future to watermark cards with a print number; if you have a rare one out of ten “print” card you may feel a little more pride in showing it off. I’m not a big tech guy, but it could maybe also be possible to attach some sort of content ID system to each card, like a serial number or perhaps a digital version of the RFID chips like in the poker cards on WSOP? Someone much smarter than me can probably tell me if that’s possible or not, I’m just throwing some ideas at the wall to see what sticks. I really like the idea of having a trading card system in the league, and as it exists right now the artwork and craft and detail that has gone in to it is impeccable. I just personally cannot justify the cost, at least until there is some inherent value attached to them. I’m very much looking forward to how it grows, though! ______________________________________________________________________________ I'd like to make an addendum to this post; after more thought I believe my criticism of Dotts was haphazard and reactionary. I stand by my opinion that there could potentially be more value added to the cards, however, I fear my original observation detracted from the original intent of the project. This league is built on a foundation of staunch community and unbridled fun, and more interesting and creative ventures should be welcome with open arms. The selfless souls that worked assumedly tirelessly on this project should be rewarded for their efforts; not struck down by relentless criticism and/or ridicule. As someone who is new to the league, I have no right or privilege to undermine the efforts and workmanship of those who dedicate their precious time and resources to better the league. I will be leaving my original criticism up for posterity, in hopes that those in a similar position as I am will perhaps reconsider their position on the matter. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Opera_Phantom - 09-07-2020 I do not know if it exists in the United States, but in Europe every big sticker/trading card collection is made by Panini. The earliest one i remember was from the Italy World Cup in 1990, 30 years ago. I remember vividly that, with every team you had the individual player stickers, like we do with dotts. But the most wanted ones where the logos, because they used some shiny effects that changed with lighting. I think it would be cool if Dotts had also the teams logos, including the ones that were replaced since the league started. Another thing i remember them having was team photos. In soccer that's pretty easy, it is just 11 players, while in football it would be pretty tough to get 53 guys all in 1 picture. But why not having cards with great defenses, or outstanding offenses, with all the players in it? Imagine the banner we normally have here during Ultimus Week, but as a collectible. You can even divide the "photo" and make it as a 3 part sticker for example, so that users would search for the 3 parts. Lots of possibilities for Dotts, and while i am not a buyer here, it really is something that differentiates this league. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Memento Mori - 09-07-2020 As someone who's been in the league for a relatively short time compared to others, the first thing I'd like to see is the S24 set. I know that's coming out in a couple of weeks, but I care far more about the league's current rosters and TPE tiers than I do about last season's rosters. I think it's a shame that so many guys (primarily S23 and S24 rookies) currently in the league didn't get a card in the first set, but I'm glad to see that it'll happen soon. I'd also love to see more awards cards/higher effort cards. With most cards using draft renders, there are lots of players who are wearing an incorrect jersey number, who aren't wearing the correct team colours or who had the wrong render used. I think it's a shame that given the talent of the guys on the Dotts team (just look at the Ultimus or award cards, for example) that so many cards feature mistakes. Rather than delaying the release, I might have preferred Dotts to release with fewer cards, but release with 300 or so accurate S23 or S24 cards instead of releasing 700 cards spanning the history of the league but with errors. Regarding awards cards specifically: they are incredible. I'd love to see more, but they're obviously very time consuming to produce. Perhaps they could start by adding the MVPs from S1 to S21, then Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, with less meaningful awards like Wide Receiver of the Year a lower priority. I don't know how long I'll continue to buy a pack every day as there are just so many cards and that makes it hard to keep up, but adding more awards cards and fewer 'draft render in the Dotts template' cards would definitely keep me interested longer. So I will just tell you what we actually have planned for the future. We hope to fix our issues with duplicates soon. Right now, if you get any duplicates, you just lose them, essentially ending up with only five cards in your pack. As far as cards that are coming out soon: in a couple weeks we are dropping our S24 edition, which will include rookies and free agents on their new teams, and updated TPE tiers for a lot of players. In addition to continuing our current specialty series (Hall of Fame series, Ultimus Champs series, and Awards series), we have a few new series in the works. Here are the two that are most likely next to be released: Rookie autograph cards - Rookie cards are always among the most valuable cards in the sports market, and we hope to make this true for Dotts as well. As of now, all rookie cards are just the first base set, and getting a backup level rookie who will advance TPE tiers is equivalent to having a rookie card. We will be making higher quality rookie cards for a small number of great players, and we will be using their real autographs when possible. Expansion draft holograph cards - Next up, the big agenda of the league right now: expansion. We will be creating cards for those taken in expansion. They will change in appearance when held at different angles to reflect the team change. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - GuitarMaster116 - 09-07-2020 Since Dotts have first opened on Wednesday 9/2, it has been an amazing experience. You can tell all of the passion and hard work that was put into this program, and it has been an amazing experience to experience, especially since I am relatively new to the league. I can’t wait to see how it grows from here, but it really has a solid foundation. There are some things I would like to see included along the way. Now I am not going to be talking about all the obvious ones like trading and selling, but some small quality of life improvements that aren’t very big tasks, but I think would be much appreciated. One of the things I really want is to add the dates onto the cards the day you pulled them. This would be helpful for people who want to know exactly what day they pulled certain cards for article reasons or just to keep track on when certain cards have been pulled. The other is another task I think is simple, and that is to add a backside to the cards. I know these are virtual cards, but wouldn’t it be cool still to click on your card in your collection and see it flip to the back? Also, with the date thing I mentioned, you could also add the date on the back of the card. It might not be the most pressing matter, but it would still be a cool thing to have. As for special or promo cards, most of the ideas I have had have already been said, but the one I was thinking about is a rookie card series. I don’t think that will happen, but it would be really cool as a rookie to get my own card and maybe it could have the round, pick, and team that drafted them. I don’t know if this will happen because I am pretty sure the Dotts team has already stated they are not doing players until they have been drafted in the ISFL for at least 1 season. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Tylar - 09-07-2020 As someone new to the league with like three weeks experience, I found this point task a bit hard to write. For me, making money in this league was kind of tough, as someone who does not know much about football, making writing articles kind of difficult. Although, from my experience the article writing payout seems pretty good. I kind of wish, there was money money given out to first generations like me, although I know it probably is not a good idea to inflate peoples banks, but it would make it a bit easier. I have written some media, and did the twitter. I know the rookie PT gives out 3 million which is pretty solid. I honestly, do not know anything about this league to comment on TPE caps and salary caps. The trading cards thing from what I have heard, sounds like a great idea to take money away from people. It is something I may look into when I have more experience and money in the league. It seems kind of overwhelming to me right now though. I would also say the Casino idea and fantasy are good ways as well from my sim league experience which I believe this league already has. Code: 207 Words ![]() |
