Training camp was hard work. Yellowknife Wraiths had a long season last year, which ended with huge celebrations. I'm not going to throw anybody under the bus here, so I will only speak for myself - I partied a lot. I turned up for the training camp in not so good shape. The main focus of the training camp was to get back in shape. Since we won the championship last year, I don't think fitness being the main focus is going to be necessarily a bad thing. We all know what we need to do during this upcoming season. I know what I need to do during this upcoming season.

Off-season with more partying and relaxation offered an important time away from football. It helped to recharge the mental side. That could be huge, the season is long and full of tough games.

The only negative of starting the training camp in less optimal shape is that it might take a while to reach the absolute prime level I was on during the playoffs, for example. However, I don't think that will be a concern since the coaches said nice things about my work ethic and even if I say so myself - I'm in pretty nice shape and ready to play again.

Ahh training camp. Tsuyu Asui was extremely excited for this seasons training camp for the Philadelphia Liberty since she will be able to play with the new rookies. When she got to the camp most of the players have already reported in except for Flash Panda. Tsuyu wasn't really surprised as she knew he would get here eventually. She was a little late due to almost sleeping in but was ready for this. The team went through basic exercises and drills to start with Tsuyu having the highest jumps of her team. Flash finally reported to the camp during the basic drills.

The rookies looked great with Sonjack actually managing to get a couple of picks during the team scrimmage. Xander looked like a beast during the tackling dummy drills and accidentally knocked Tsuyu on her butt during the scrimmage. Luckily she was unhurt and got a touchdown the next play. Lonnie so far looks amazing with his runs even though he may be a bit raw. Though to be fair all of the rookies are a bit raw as they need time and experience. Ryan Negs looks like he has definitely improved since his decent rookie campaign. In the end the practice was just what every player needed to get ready for this season and they are all eager to show thier stuff.

The Season 29 ISFL Training Camp for the Colorado Yeti was by far the hardest of Cole Maxwell's career. For one, it was his first ISFL training camp, so I guess it was both the hardest and easiest he had gone through to that point, but likely it would remain one of the more difficult due to his position and body switch. The mental part of the game had always come fairly easily to Cole, but then again on defense it's a lot of see ball go hit person, not too much rocket science in that aspect of it. But now that Cole was on the offense he was really learning how route combinations came together to manipulate the defense to create the advantage for the offensive players. He also learned that getting hit was a lot less fun than doing the hitting, especially since his body was recovering from the massive and totally unnecessary amount of cosmetic surgeries he went through to feel more himself in his new position. But that's the kind of commitment that Cole brings to his team, who seemed to take notice and welcome him in even more because of it. The bond forged through pain and practice will undoubtedly hold the team together through the thickest and thinnest parts of the season to come.

While it is certainly not my first rodeo with Training Camp, it is always fun to see how the rookies react to it on their first go around. By the time I got there on the first day, 10 minutes early, all the rookies were already in their pads doing drills or stretching, the 2nd and 3rd-year players were warming up on the sideline and chit-chatting while anyone else with multi-years of experience with the Sailfish was waiting on the sideline for the coach to tell us what to do. I know the rookies are fighting for a spot on the team, but they certainly are overdoing it a bit haha. You can only be so good at the game of football! While I do the warm-ups with the full team, the very few special teamers are honestly just a cheering squad for the rest of the team in the stands or working out at the far end of the field so we don't get in the way of the offense and the defense well that is until they need us for in-game workouts or the coach needs us for something specific. It's always great to get the pads back on after the off-season and a new season is a new time to shine, I really think we'll shine after how hard we worked in training camp.

Offseason Opinions

The offseason and the training camp as a whole was probably the most interesting and intense moments of my career. Starting with getting drafted by the London Royals was definitely a team that I am proud of to be part of as I get to use that team to prove the rest of the DSFL of not drafting me. When I got the training camp, I got to meet my team as they are fantastic and everything but the two in particular are my great friends Bradley and Parm. Parm was drafted 8th overall and with good reason as the boy can throw the ball for days and that is going to be a sight to see when I am watching on the bench of Parm slinging as I am sure Bradley is blessed to have Parm on his team. And speaking of Bradley, his style is truly something to watch out for as it is going to be having to guard Bradley a lot as his skills similar to most WRs but his skills far unique and quite frankly far better than what most people give him credit for so guarding Bradley will be like guarding the best WR in DSFL as I get to prove that I am the best CB in this draft class, best defensive player in the draft class and the best defender period so this will be fun. I had a ton of fun in the offseason as we did some workout drills, tackling(even though I am not fan of it like jeez thanks coach!), WR v CB drills, catching drills, a fun 40 time and lastly the best thing in practice is scrims as I always prefer practicing on scrims since it is a simulation of the games we will play. So I am hype to get on the field, get my Jersey and get my name in people’s head! Go London Royals and let’s rule this season!

Since he was drafted, Douglas Quaid’s physique has been the epitome of absolute perfection. He had 3% body fat and was a man of extreme discipline. This training camp was unlike any other. When Quaid showed up the first day, from a distance his teammates thought it was a different player. Was that offensive lineman Bruce Buckley? Was that a new free agent acquisition? Did we trade for somebody recently? None of the above. It was old Quaid coming off his third Ultimus win. As the cameras and media rushed over Quaid said he was not ashamed of his sub standard body image. “Listen everybody, I have the physical fitness of a sixth grader right now. I spent the entire offseason lounging and relaxing. I have been a part of many accomplishments with this franchise and I wanted to reflect on them, and motivate myself to keep grinding for the next few years.” “I didn’t put in the type of offseason training that I’m used to. I get paid to show up to work 16 times per year plus playoffs. When the whistle blows week 1 I will be ready.” Quaid is a great talent, perhaps age and success has gone to his head. We should not doubt him, tune in week 1 to find out.

William Lim is entering training camp yet again. As the second longest tenured player in the Yeti team, he lost track or the amount of times he went through this phase of the season. So this training camp will be another routine for him.

This camp, however is not as routine as it seems. Thwre has been some big changes in the roster, and more importantly for William, in the wide receiver room. Leeroy Jenkins, his draft class buddy and the team's longtime WR2/3, has somehow made the transition to offensive line during the offseason. (A move that would have given some of the old Yeti management a disturbing flashback, William mused) on his place the team called up Cole Maxwell, a Second year rookie from Dallas Birddogs. Cole, who is making a transition from safety to wide receiver on top of transitioning between leagues, happenes to be from the same DSFL team William himself had been on. In fact, the two got some relationship from William's offseason job in Dallas. So this camp, William plans to set aside some time to help the rookie out on being accustomed to being a wide receiver and a big leagues player. And as the team doesn't want him to participate in too many drills as he's getting older now, he'll hqve plenty time without getting in trouble with the team, too. (230)
