Hawks - Wraiths Championship Announcement - SwagSloth - 08-29-2017 I just wanted to pop in with some more support. It's a tough call to make and it's going to upset one side or the other regardless, but it's clearly an issue of error and not intent. Though I'm new to football sims, I've run similar things in the past and it is indeed a thankless job. I know a lot of us appreciate all the work the GMs and staff put running into the league. This is just a small bump in the road on our way to great things as a league. Hawks, I wish you guys luck in the championship. The loss hurts, but we're looking ahead, not backward. We look forward to getting some payback next season and letting it all get resolved on the field. Hawks - Wraiths Championship Announcement - ErMurazor - 08-29-2017 I think all of the Wraiths players and @Bzerkap deserve a shout out for how gracefully they're handling this whole situation. Bzerkap was quick to say a re-sim wasn't necessary for the small attribute error despite it eliminating him from the playoffs. The Wraiths players could also make a stink, and somewhat rightfully so considering their recent loss, but they're all taking everything in a respectable way. I hope we're lucky enough to see other similar situations be accepted with such dignity and maturity. Unsure, probably take way more time than the TPE scraper we did. That only needed to scrape like 20-24 pages. Getting updates will always have to scrape the number of pages that the number of players exist.I have wanted to do this but don't have the time or knowledge to get it going right now. It would take a lot of time to build, even though it's not particularly difficult to do (in my head at least, the way I would do it)While it would be a tough task I think for the updaters it would be worth it. We are spending roughly 2-4 hours on each team per week and making mistakes that require further time and effort to fix. It might be a pipe dream for now but it's a nice pipe dream. Hawks - Wraiths Championship Announcement - DeathOnReddit - 08-29-2017 this is bullshit, id say we re sim until the wraiths win. Then give us the ultimus because tbh they suck. (shh dont tell them i said that) Hawks - Wraiths Championship Announcement - ErMurazor - 08-29-2017 (08-29-2017, 03:12 PM)DeathOnReddit Wrote:this is bullshit, id say we re sim until the wraiths win. If instead we got rid of the updates pages and instead had like a separate site to handle their updates (such as it automatically loads their characters and TPE gains automatically and adds the TPE to their player attribute in like a calculator... then that would probably be a bit easier, considering the web page could handle the validity and automated output. But this is a shit ton of work. Tackle by Broadway, E.. That being said I doubt anything would differ if Broadway did have 75 agility. We don't know what would happen. We can't go back and re-sim that one play. Hawks - Wraiths Championship Announcement - Noppadet - 08-30-2017 (08-29-2017, 01:42 PM)124715 Wrote:To be honest, how hard is it to automate this? If @7hawk77 and @Noppadet can make a webscraper that harvests TPE data, can't it be modified to collect attribute data? As long as all player pages are kept in a strict formatting, couldn't it work after some wrangling? @7hawk77 and @37thchamber pretty much covered it - it would be a lot easier to take it off site or something, unless jcink allows source code access to the forum software which I kind of doubt. What do you guys think of a mobile app? (I'm not volunteering on this just brain storming) Ideas: Somehow specify the update thread, and it (the mobile app) makes posts in the thread instead of the actual user/player, perhaps through a moderation level user that could posts in locked threads (i.e.: UpdaterBot). If anyone in the world used Windows Phone I could probably do this, but unfortunately no one does use Windows Phone and I've never done an Android or iPhone app. A website could do it, but an idea I'd be thinking of would be you open the website, verify identity somehow (a generated unique hash in a profile, along would a username would do it. SomethingAwful forums users use this a lot in their 3rd party sites), and then an update thread, and then an automated post, and then a verification process on TPE earned for updaters, and then a spreadsheet update... It's a hassle, but it could be done like 37thchamber mentioned. Since we have HTML access in the signatures we could potentially embed the update forum as the top post in the foru. If we could do that then only updaters would have to go off site that would verify TPE earned, and then update the spreadsheet. We'd have to have a user in place again with the embed code (if it even works it may not). i.e. (my red text says potential database of thread urls and their corresponding TPE): ![]() Edits on all of these would be a bitch unless it had a database to identify an update post belonging to the bot (at least what I'm thinking). Potentially the completed point tasks could just be pasted instead and user embeds would just let users spend TPE. might be a better way of doing it. Just some ideas. You guys may have better ones for sure. On topic to the thread: Unofficially - sorry guys, I think we would have won without the inflated TPE considering the stats of Broadway, but it sucks anyway. |
