I would like to add that I just ran a quick test to see what kind of effect we would get by moving to 5 bots. I tested the Otters @ Outlaws using the week 10 file in a 15 game average.

Control Test (Otters):
4.7 sacks per game
2.9 yards/carry
5.9 yards/pass attempt

Then I changed all Otters offensive linemen to 90 strength, 60 agility, 75 endurance, 55 speed, and 80 blocking.

Bot Test (Otters):
3.6 sacks per game
3.2 yards/carry
6.8 yards/pass attempt

This boils down to a reduction in sacks of 23%, and increase in YPC of 8%, and an increase in YPA of 18%. I feel that's a fair improvement.

Those numbers seem pretty reasonable to be honest. I think it'd be interesting to have some variation in the bots just so DL match-ups are more interesting. Run blockers on the right, pass blockers on the left, etc. Might not be worth the work though, just throwing out ideas.

I definitely think it’s worth the work. Get a pool of TPE and have GMs shape their line.

Run a spread? Have a fast, smaller line.

Run pass heavy? Have quick and strong pass blockers

Run a ground game? Have maulers along the line

Yes this is an amazing idea. It gives the GM better control on strategy and developing the team's identity.

Am I number 7?!?

For the record, I made the change to OL from DE because I knew our team needed more active OL. It's not an exciting position and anyone who does go OL knows that it's not a forgiving (sacks allowed) or fun position. We do it out of necessity because we want our teams to succeed and don't want to clog up other positions.

I'm already looking ahead to my next player to be an RB or DE...if given the option to and if OL goes away then I would have a more enjoyable time playing another position.

I was thinking about making the switch (if I got a GM role), but I approve of this change. Might help with expansion as well.

Also another trend to look at is running back YPCs. In Season 1, the best starting running back YPC was 4.6. In Season 2, the best starting running back YPC was 3.7. In Season 3, the best starting running back YPC was 3.4. Even though running backs have been getting better each season from an attributes perspective, their efficiency has been sharply decreasing. I don't know for sure what is causing this trend, but my best guess is since defensive lines are growing a lot faster than offensive lines, running backs are getting less holes to run through and are getting stuffed in the backfield more often. This is concerning for league balance because if the running game keeps getting worse, teams are going to stop running and just pass all the time which will lead to pretty unbalanced playcalling and take away from the feeling of realism. Obviously as a running back I'm a bit biased, but I would love to see offensive lines get buffed so that the running game can stay viable rather than decreasing further.

How about a combination of some of those ideas?

The o-bots are randomly generated on important skills between two numbers (like 60-80 for example)

the bots are drafted by teams in a special draft

the teams have a limited number of tpe each season to add to the bots to individualize their lines

rinse and repeat in the dsfl

all future bots are draftable from dsfl

I am against eliminating OL. I think it will lead to the league overpopulating in other positions. We already have too many people in the DSFL. It is unnecessary at this point.

If you would be #7 i would be #8 then :o

Personally about the change i am not against. This position is boring i have legit 2 stat to talk about which make my life really hard to even write PTs. I would prefer another position for sure.

I am currently in no way excited to be in this league. Im doing it for friends, else id be long gone i think. I dont look forwards to sims, can't care how my OL is doing due to the fact the stats arent exciting... ("Oh YEAH MAN did you see i had 3 pancakes and no sacks!! Whoohoo!").

So yeah if it wasnt for the team i wouldnt even be active anymore either.
