A Dwyer Christmas Tradition

Besides Santa there is one major tradition in the Dwyer household and that is the Great Gingerbread House Build. Every year my dad and I have taken on a challenge to test our cookie construction. In past years we have done The Pawnee Festival, City Hall and Toms Bistro among other landmarks. But this year we decided to do a British Castle in honor of my Godfather Lord Edgar Covington coming stateside for the holidays. This castle was a huge undertaking. We built a working drawbridge with licorice chain and external control knob. We built 3 towers. The first tower was the turret over the entrance. This turret had all the defensive tools. Pretzel stick Bastille, Pike man defensive walls, and my favorite part which was the hot frosting flume. This would pour a cup of warm frosting to coat the nutcracker army with a delicious burn. The second turret was the Kings quarters. This included large windows to over look the gumdrop countryside and secret passages and slides in case of elf assassins. The final tower was of course the wizard tower. This tower was pimped out with roof access, a cotton candy cloud watching window, and a sugar cauldron. Had a ton of fun and the perfect way to unwind before the preseason games start.

This holiday season Blackford Oakes is working to clear his name and get some peace of mind. After Connor Tanner's unsuccessful attempt at blackmailing him into retirement Tanner has had it out for Oakes, sabotaging endorsement deals, spreading rumors, and leaking privileged information.

The former Las Vegas Legion tight end, as everyone knows, orchestrated a mass retirement from the team recently because.... reasons... and while he was somewhat successful wasn't able to get everyone to retire. One of the holdouts was Blackford Oakes. This hasn't sit well with Tanner as he took it as a personal slight and has been striking back at the young safety since.

The assault began in the immediate aftermath of the mass retirement as Connor Tanner wasted no time in fabricating a story that Oakes had slept with the wife of the McDonald's CEO which submarined his upcoming tendies ad campaign. Oakes attempted to explain the situation to McDonald's but it was to no avail.

Most recently, a story appeared on TMZ with screenshots of old conversations Blackford Oakes had in middle and high school. In his youth, Oakes had no filter and was fond of friendly flaming which now looks even worse out of context. Learning his lesson, Oakes has begun an operation of revenge as he tries to end Tanner's influence over his life once and for all. He planted those seeds over the holidays, hiring 1337 hackers to sabotage Tanner's computer so that it blue screens every few hours and covertly planting Legos in his house at night to make his floor a minefield of misery.

For the holidays this year, Eli Kamaka invited Micah Hendrix and his family to Hawaii for a good old fashioned Hawaiian Christmas. After being invited to Thanksgiving by Hendrix it only seemed appropriate and with the way the weather is on the east coast right now, it was an offer that Micah certainly wouldn’t refuse. The weather was fantastic and there was so much to do from surfing and fishing to just relaxing on the beach. Of course, the two families also had to play some football on the beach as well. Micah and his wife Tori also took some time to do some sightseeing while there. They visited Volcanoes National park as well as Green Sands Beach, some of the more well known natural sites on the island. Of course all of that hiking and adventuring could be exhausting so it was great that the best part of the entire trip, the Christmas day luau, was full of food, music and just relaxing. It truly was a special trip and an overall much needed break for the two teammates after another long season that saw the Liberty playing in the playoffs yet again. Comradery like this is one of the reasons that the team has been so successful as of late.

This year Bobby Ruckus went back to Brooklyn to chill with the fam and homies back in the zoo. It’s a long flight from Portland to Brooklyn, so he spends that time watching game tape and reading over plays because he likes to stay mentally fit with that chess game mindset. When he gets back to Brooklyn he likes to do the typical stuff he’s always done in the past. It’s usually about hanging out and watching football and gettin’ high, but Bobby couldn’t do that this year because he’s in the league now and they test. Not sure how rigorously though, but it’s just weed so come on! Bobby stays fit though and active so he still trains with the homies back home and they play lots of street ball and run a lot through the city. Bobby really likes to run and he loves doing marathon running and shit like that. He’s not much of a sprinter, but he loves to do the Forest Gump run where you run for a while and block out the rest of the world. After all that, he and homies go see Star Wars: The Last Jedi because lightsabers and shit. Space battles are dope.

This holiday season, Clifford Rove will be spending the holidays with his family back home in Tennessee. The main event of the holidays will be watching his brother Sturgill pitch in the inaugural PBE world series for the New York Voyagers. Clifford is hoping for the win (along with an ultimus for the Liberty this year), so that the brothers will have won championships in the same calendar year. The Rove family is also well known for its annual “Ice Bowl”, an annual pick up football game between the extended family. Clifford and Sturgill tend to play quarterback, and it is usually a toss up as to who will win. That is the main holiday tradition in the Rove family. The only other one is the Christmas Eve dinner, in which the entire family gets together to eat a Thanksgiving style dinner, along with some southern favorites such as fried chicken and some grits. While it won’t feel quite the same without Sturgill this year, everyone will be sure to be rooting for him during the holiday season. Clifford will also of course spend some time with his friends, generally grabbing a bite to eat at the local pizzeria. He hasn’t let the fame get to him, and his friends all report that he is the exact same guy that he was in high school, albeit a little more mature.

Noah Goodson was headed to El Paso, Texas on December 29th, to see alma mater, NC State play Arizona State in the Sun Bowl. Goodson is still very fond of the days of playing at State with the Wolfpack. He likes to attend as many Wolfpack games throughout the season, and especially the bowl games. Goodson met up with some of the other Wolfpack that play professional football in that other league. Wilson, Brisset, Glennon, and Rivers all got a press box at the Sun Bowl and invited Noah Goodson after hearing about his awesome rookie season in the NSFL. They were very impressed and tried relentlessly to get Goodson to jump ship from the NSFL to their league. Goodson had to decline. He summed it up to a few reporters that caught up with him after the game:

Quote:After the way last season ended; losing in the playoffs, team blowing up, there's a lot I have left to accomplish in Arizona. We're going to get there, and it might take a while, but I'm sure I'm going to play some great football and Arizona will remain competitive.

Goodson wrapped up the holidays with an awesome New Years celebration in Raleigh, watching the acorn drop.

It's the holiday season and John Wachter is certainly glad to be back in Baltimore. Portland was great about being sure he could live at home as much as possible, but the traveling could be exhausting. Now, as a Hawk, Wachter is home full time and can fully enjoy the holiday season.

Now the proud owner of a new home in Towson, a town near Baltimore, Wachter is able to host family and friends alike for the first time in his life. Christmas consisted mostly of a potluck and some tasteful (for the most part) drinking. Wachter tried his hand at some baking with mixed success, mom brought her world famous baked ziti, and everyone else brought something of their own to contribute. It was a wildly successful get together with party games, great food, and a gift exchange. Wachter's newfound money from the Hawks and Pythons deals went to good use as well, as he paid off his mother's mortgage and car payments as a surprise gift.

News years' eve and day are expected to be a similar event, but with significantly more drinking and, of course, fireworks! What could go wrong? It has been decided by family and friends that Wachter won't be lighting any himself to avoid a JPP situation, but it should be a fun time regardless.

No matter what happens, Wachter is grateful for a chance to play for his home team. The memories made during Christmas and the memories that will continue to be made are and will continue to be important to him. In combination with the memories off the field, Wachter is excited to create even more on the field in the coming seasons.
