(S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - Drizzy - 03-04-2018 Living in San Jose doesn't exactly put you at risk of snowstorms or blizzards thankfully, however we have been known to get some pretty rough tropical storms and hurricanes so you need to be able to make preparations in case bad weather does come. Cordell shares an apartment with a teammate to try and save some cash on his small rookie contract so he isn't exactly able to get a basement to bunker down or stash supplies in, so he instead has some stuff stored at teammate Ja'Brill's palatial home in San Jose, which in case of an emergency he can run to and hide away down in his fortified wine cellar. The wine cellar has everything you need when facing potential disaster, including food, shelter, warmth and booze, and Cordell actually quite enjoys spending time here anyway so the prospect of a storm spent down here is fine by him. But oh man, blizzard season in Colorado is something. After getting a new contract and settling in the area, I made sure to get snow tires for my car, and immediately went to the store to get a slow cooker and some canned soups. I also got a small generator, because after Sandy, I knew what having no power in the cold felt like. It's nice to live in a small complex of townhouses, though. Not only do I save money by not buying a whole house yet, I also don't have to do too much shoveling! So no snowblower for me, just a good quality shovel to take care of my steps and get my car out of a bind. I got to be honest, I'll take lots of snow over hurricanes every day of the week. 153 (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - ralams123 - 03-04-2018 As a Florida native Jonathan King is no stranger to getting himself prepared for things such as storms and floods. When he is staying at his Florida home during hurricane season Jonathan always prepares for the worst about a month before buying a heft amount of water bottles and extra batteries, while people look at him funny at the store Jonathan just laughs knowing that in the high chance any type of disaster were to happen whether a tropical storm or category 5 hurricane he wont be one of the people scattering for supplies. With a lot of in home essentials like food and electronics Jon fills up a couple tanks of gas just in case things get too dangerous and he has to make an escape out the state. If he does leave instead of wasting his supplies he gives out all of his hoarded supplies to the neighbors to make sure they dont have any worries. (158 words) (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - CDub2 - 03-04-2018 Being raised in Canada, Cameron Taylor never really gets too worried about blizzards or snow storms. They are just part of the natural course of winter. Roads close down, power gets lost, it happens. Losing power is especially difficult, but there's always things to do instead. Being in Yellowknife, these bad storm happen all the time and most of the team has gotten used to it by now. The American teammates, who literally feared for their lives during the first bad storm, have mellowed out. Not the team ritual is to come together at the arena, have a little candlelight work out session, and sacrifice a goat and burn pictures of Noble. The last part is part of a deal with the Devil. In exchange for good weather on game days, we sacrificed the Colorado Yeti's S6 win-loss record. The Devil drives a tough bargain, but we figured the Yeti wouldn't miss their 2 wins per year. It was a necessary sacrifice, but it's been working for a long time now. 173 words (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - adam2552 - 03-04-2018 As Hurricane Harvey was bearing down on the Gulf coast, San Antonio Marshals running back Carter Bush was volunteering with the San Antonio SPCA. Bush was cleaning out cages, washing blankets, and portioning out food in preparation for the facility to receive animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey. After the storm, Bush took trips to Houston to bring displaced animals to areas less impacted by the hurricane. Bush participated in fundraisers with both his image and his time. He took part in public photo opportunities and also worked n the call centers. When he wasn't working to raise money, he was back at the shelter. He was walking the dogs, playing with them, cleaning their cages, and feeding them. Bush also made a large cash donation to the San Antonio SPCA to ensure that these animals could continue to receive the best accommodations possible during their stay with the San Antonio SPCA. 151 words (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - DeathOnReddit - 03-04-2018 Im from the Northeast. Every single year there is a big storm, and most of the time there is more than 1 big storm that comes through. Im used to this shit, and I dont really prepare. Most of the time it meant no school and that is always a fun time. The most I ever prepare is just staying away from any windows and electronics. This means I close all the doors, all the windows, turn all my fans and stuff off. I make sure to charge my electronics before hand just in case, and I just sit in front of the TV, or take my laptop off the plug and sit and watch some youtube. Whenever Im with people that arent used to things like this, I always just laugh at how worried they get and let them do whatever they have to in order to make themselves feel better. So yea, i dont really prepare all that much for storms. (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - LT21 - 03-04-2018 Welp, Blizzards coming into New Orleans again.. The first thing I'm gonna do is make sure we have a lot of whiskey stocked up. Having a good amount of bourbon could be the difference between survival & death when a big storm hits New Orleans. After the whiskey is acquired I'm going to bring in a few generators. We're gonna party this storm out and we're definitely gonna need the right amount of lighting and some music. Next I'm gonna invite the rest of the team, cheerleaders, a select group of fans and bring in some musicians. After we're all set up & everyone is there we're gonna board the fucker up. We're gonna party our asses off and turn this damn blizzard into a celebration. There's going to be so many activities. We'll check out what's going on outside in a few days, no need to rush it. 151 words (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - TrueTexican - 03-04-2018 Although we're not accustomed to blizzards or anything of the sort down in the Lonestar state, we do occasionally have big disasters that can come our way. As they say, the Lord only gives ya what you can handle but you gotta be prepared for the worst just in case. I learned that lesson the hard way when our town got hit by Hurricane Harvey last year and there was lots of problems in the events that followed. Luckily I was with my family at the time and my parents were prepared for such disasters with a storm shelter. We huddled up in the shelter for a few days while the storm was hittin' and once it was over we helped our community by cleaning up the neighborhood and trying to rescue folks in my raised truck that I had at the time. It's never an easy time but we pulled through as a community with our faith in God and each other. #TexasStrong (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - manicmav36 - 03-04-2018 Growing up in the Nebraska, Taylor has seen more than his fair share of storms. Raging flash floods, blinding white snow storms, hellish tornados, he’s seen it all, and nothing surprises him at this point. Because of the myriad of weather based threats in the state of Nebraska, Taylor and his family are prepared for most anything. In their basement storm cellar, they have a cupboard of canned goods, enough water for three days, and a backup generator in case power is lost. While these items will most likely never be used, it never hurts to have them on hand. Because of his comfort in his level of preparedness, Taylor has made it his duty to help out his neighbors whenever possible, including working as a Red Cross emergency first responder during the 2012 tornado outbreak. He might not be the best equipped for the situation (he’s certainly no doctor or EMT) that won’t stop him from trying his best to help his fellow man. (S6) - Weekend PT 3 - Storm Prep - run_CMC - 03-05-2018 If you don’t think of snowstorms as a hazard in Arizona, then you’ve clearly never been to the mountains. One winter, Jackson was on a vacation in nearby (to Phoenix) Flagstaff, Arizona, a small city of 68,000 nestled among the San Francisco Peaks. On this particular winter, snow had been frequent and heavy, but one morning Jackson woke up to darkness, and the sound of heavy winds. The snow was raging down hard enough to block any light from streaming in the cabin windows. And, when Jackson reached for the light switch, he discovered the power was down. He had a moment of concern as a cold draft wisped past his legs, but his worries faded as he recalled the large stash of blankets, lamps, and sweaters in the closet down the hall. Plus, he’d brought in some firewood the day before, and the cabinets were full of nonperishables. It might not be much fun, but Jackson had everything he needed to ride out the storm: even a deck of cards for some solitaire. |
