(S8) - Weekend PT 4 - Media Day - YoungTB - 06-16-2018 Q: "What are your thoughts going into the postseason about your experience in the DSFL so far?" A: "My thoughts? Well, it's been pretty fun so far. I've been making my mark on the DSFL like I wanted to, so that's good. I'm just focused on getting my guys to the postseason and getting home field advantage." Q: "How will you stand out from the rest of the runningbacks in this class going into the draft?" A: "I'm not worried about that at all right now. I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. All I'm thinking about is winning these last 4 games and finishing off the season as the best team in the league." Q: "Do you think you can break the record for most rushing touchdowns in a season in the DSFL?" A: "I know I can. Just depends if I get the opportunities to do so." Q: "Critics have claimed that the San Antonio offense is being carried by their high powered defense. Is this true?" A: "Uh... well there is no carrying in football, everyone on the team has to hold their own or else we lose. But this defense is something else. Probably one of the best units this league has ever seen. I mean Ludvig, Bucky, Brock, Urlacher... there are so many threats on this team and those guys are one of the reasons why we're doing so well. But I'm not getting carried by nobody. You know that." [246 words] (S8) - Weekend PT 4 - Media Day - Dawegg - 06-16-2018 Brad's commentary on how the season has gone and what to expect in the future is generally positive. The team has the draft capital to acquire up and coming players who can provide a solid foundation to build upon. Some negiotiations and moves not made were a little tough to swallow, but they aren't overtly damaging to our hopes and expectations past this season. The team was never expected to win games after Orsoz retired, so pulling out one win in what was a lost season is a non factor that won't effect our draft position. The season nine class looks extremely promising, potentially enough so that this rebuild can be effectively placed ahead of schedule. Losing is tough, but there's a direction and purpose we have set for ourselves. Competition should return sooner to San Jose than expected, and stay for a relatively long period of time. Nothing is guaranteed and we must explore all the options available to us to put ourselves in position to compete for an Ultimus sometime in the future. After 10 games, we sit at 8-2 and have the best record in the league. If we finish strong, we have a good chance to finish with home field advantage throughout the playoffs again this year. However, the regular season is not what really matters this year. We know that after finishing 13-1 last year and losing in the first round of the playoffs. Coming into this year, our goal was to win a championship and we aren't going to be satisfied with any other result. We need to finish strong down the stretch to lock up home field advantage and this time we need to carry the same intensity from the regular season into the playoffs. I think we have a good shot to win the championship this year and going to enter the playoffs with a chip on our shoulder after last season's result. I'm also very pleased with my individual performance this year. I said before the season that I wanted to come back stronger than ever after my first round of regression and show that I haven't lost a step. After the first 10 games, I'm leading in tackles and sacks, which means if I finish strong, I should be a contender for the linebacker of the year award and maybe the defensive player of the year award. If I could win either of those awards, this would arguably be the best individual season I have ever had even though it's also my first year of regression. I'm hoping to finish strong to make a push for some awards and also to help the Wraiths bring home their first championship." He takes a seat and smiles at the press corps in the room. “How would you say your season has gone thus far?” Well, I was pretty public about my expectations for the season this year. I was thinking three wins, with a little luck giving us another one, maybe. Needless to say, I’m ecstatic with how things have gone. I mean, to go into Orange County and steal a victory off the Otters… It was the first time I’ve ever been able to do something like that in this league. I was wrong about my expectations for these guys, and I couldn’t be happier about it. “What do you think has caused the turnaround for you guys this year?” To be frank, I think it’s the progress our offense has made. We’re still far from elite on that side of the ball -- I’m confident that that will come with experience -- but they’re no longer taking us out of games where we have a shot at winning. Our defense has continued to perform well, though the statistics are finally bearing that out. Ramero has been a game changer, and Kamaka is only beginning to make his presence felt. Add that to guys like Saint, Bly, Sandoval, and Miller, and we’ve got an absolutely elite unit on that side of the ball. Sorry, I’ve gotta run and get back to practice. Thanks for your questions, and I’ll talk to you guys again soon! Word count: 260 (S8) - Weekend PT 4 - Media Day - Durden - 06-17-2018 Man, talking to the media is always a weird thing. I feel like they're constantly judging you and it just makes it difficult. I feel like I always have to be very specific in the words I choose and take my time, which makes for longer media scrums. Whatever, let's get into it. I think this year has been pretty darn good so far. We're 3-7 which sucks, but we knew going into this year that it was going to be a tough one. We beat the Yeti which should have been a given even though we lost to them and gave them their first win in three seasons. We beat the newly depleted Liberty, and we even managed to beat Yellowknife who is 8-2 now. I'm pissed about the loss to Colorado but it is what it is. My player is doing well and I really hope I'm in the talks for Rookie of the Year. I think I deserve it. (S8) - Weekend PT 4 - Media Day - timeconsumer - 06-17-2018 Angus Winchester has had plenty of experience working with the media. Going through his 8th season in the NSFL and having spent much of that time as a defensive captain Winchester is no stranger to a press conference. This time around the press are mostly interested in the Otters successes and failures this season and what the expectations are for the postseason. Guy: "Sitting as the top seed in the ASFC, but only one game ahead of the Second Line, how to you plan to hold your spot in the top of the conference to secure home field advantage fir the playoffs?" Winchester: "We just plan one game at a time, go out there and try to execute our best against our opponent that week and focus on the win in front of us before we worry about the playoffs." Guy: "What are your thoughts on the new defensive rules within the NSFL and how has it affected your game?" Winchester: "I feel like our defense is still at the top of our game this season, even with the changes. We are the best defense in the league in terms of yardage and points. We've had a lot of changes and run a variety of formations now but it's working very well for us." (S8) - Weekend PT 4 - Media Day - caltroit_red_flames - 06-17-2018 Media Guy: "Can you tell us how you feel about how your team has been playing?" Chad Pennington: "Well to be honest I don't think I could be happier with how our team is playing. How many teams can say they have the best record in the NSFL? Trick question, just one and it's the Yellowknife Wraiths. It feels good to be on top. The only thing that could make me happier is if I were playing with Brad and Thad. Brad seems like he's going his is own way but the Wraiths management has assured me that with the progress Thad has made he will be in the NSFL next season, guaranteed. " Media Guy: "What about you, how do you feel about how you've been playing?" Chad Pennington: "For myself as a player, yeah I'm pretty happy with how I'm doing in my first NSFL season. I feel like I haven't progressed as much as a player as I should though. I took a minute and examined what changed from this season to last. Turns out I hadn't bought any equipment! I've been playing in regular tennis shoes and old shoulder pads, and I haven't been staying after practice like I normally would or watched video with my coach. I'll be spending some money on that very soon, so I think you'll see me improve immensely over the next week." (S8) - Weekend PT 4 - Media Day - DELIRIVM - 06-17-2018 ![]() |
