New Orleans Second Line committed to the last phase of their rebuild trading that lasted for quite long time after the doomed Las Vegas Legion days but already can be considered a successful one since New Orleans Second Line secured their playoffs berth this season with hope to grab the top spot.

First part of this last phase of the rebuilt started surprisingly with offseason trade, where New Orleans Second Line traded their past sneak safety for two younger Defensive Back studs - William Harrison (technically it was first round pick) and Vladimir Fyodorovich. While not improving the team immediately it will surely extend the contention window, and successful rebuilds aren't about one season fluke results.

Next we had two crucial offseason moves, first of which was bringing soon top CB of the NSFL - Benson Bayley. The price was enormous - 3 decent picks and not tragic CB. It was so high because other rebuilding team - Colorado Yetis were also really interested in acquiring him. No one can argue with results of that trade. New Orleans Second Line defense improved immensely and whole team has been on a year recently.

The second big deal was thanks to Liberty breaking it all up after last season title. At the cost of draft picks: S10 2nd NOLA, S9 3rd YKW (from NOLA) and two players: WR - Stormblessed and DT - Omar Wrong New Orleans Second Line brought to town two reinforcements: TE - Paul DiMirio and DT - Godfrey King. Especially arrival of 5 time tight end of the year was crucial and solidified rather unbalanced before second line offensive formation.

The Orange County Otters have been a dominant force in the NSFL for 8 seasons now, but a tide of change may be looming on the horizon. Behemoth stars like Angus Winchester, Mike Boss, Robert Phelps and Bradley Westfield are aging. Ian Bavitz has already announced his retirement. Regression is upon them and soon they're going to have to figure out how to keep that talent level competitive. Considering the retooling that New Orleans is going through and the work that San Jose and Arizona are going through for their own rebuilding phases, Orange County is going to have to make some adjustments if they want to stay competitive. They've done well in acquiring free agents and trading for younger players. If they can continue to keep ahead of the aging curve at QB and LB, this will be instrumental in maintaining their strength within the division. In addition to adding new players with league experience, being able to draft young fresh talent into the locker room from the DSFL is vital to the future of the franchise. Orange County has had relatively good luck with drafting players in the past, so continuing this process moving forward shouldn't be terribly difficult. If they follow this format, they will be in the running for the Ultimus for years to come.

After a record setting 11-3 season with highlights on the offensive and defensive side of the field, the San Antonio Marshals will surely be going through a rebuild and growing pains next year. Key players like Bucky Barnes, Brock Weathers III, And even Oskar Ludvig will be prime candidates for call-ups to the NSFL, leaving the once mighty “No Fly Zone” that San Antonio once had, to an “Uncertainty Zone”, with question marks all across the board. Quarterback Kevin Fitzpatrick, if drafted to the right place, could also be facing a call-up. This year, quarterbacks will be at a premium, as the talented Tyler Oles will be set to retire this year, leaving another team with a need for a QB. Fitzpatrick will be a force in the NSFL, and with him being a recreate for someone who’s been in the league for a whole year, it will put Fitz as a top prospect for sure. Rookie Runningback Marquise Brown could also be facing a call-up, with teams such as San Jose hungry for a bell cow. With Brown’s record setting rookie year, he’s already put himself on the map for NSFL squads with a need at the RB postion. With all of the potential call-ups coming from San Antonio, the once revered S8 Marshals could turn into a sight for sore eyes in S9.

Lol, we all saw who is obviously rebuilding right now. They are Philly but somehow they are in a playoff spot while the Hawks are not which pisses me off. But, they won the ultimus last season which was pretty ordinate but they decide to just start selling and get off to do the rebuild. I actually find it coming at some point but now is probably the right time. They have players who are regressing and they will and now is the only time where their value is really high right now. If they would do it later, whatever they get like draft picks or prospects will not be gotten later on. The liberty lost their QB due to retirement is where it starts but somehow they are winning games while the Hawks are on a massive losing streak which sits them in last season BEHIND THE YETI. Even though a rebuild is suppose to make the team suck, they are actually alright and looking to make the playoffs which makes absolute no sense at all. Literally the wraith's chance to win the ultimus this season. So yeah, obviously liberty are rebuilding but teams like NOLA should also start rebuilding.

The Yellowknife Wraiths should probably start rebuilding. You might say "why? they're second in the league right now!" and you're right, that's pretty good. But they also have some big problems that are going to bite them in the butt soon. To start with, they probably had the worst draft in the entire NSFL in for S8. Taking Chad Pennington so high was a huge mistake and a waste of a draft pick. They managed to double down on their awful pick by taking Thad Pennington with their next one. That leaves a total rift in the S8 draft where they gained nobody of any real value. And on top of that, their star player Dermot Lavelle is barely a serviceable corner back. They should start with trading these three players while the league still believes they're useful in some way, maybe they can get some value for them.

On top of that the Otters are just too good for it to make sense to even try to win the Ultumis this season, there's just zero chance. The Wraiths haven't beaten the Otters all season, so what makes them think they have a chance of beating them in the biggest game of the year? No one remembers a second place team so there's no point in even trying when you know your loss is inevitable. Tear it down!

The Yeti have had an ongoing rebuild that has started paying dividends in season eight as their season seven draft class is fully available. Mark Grau was unavailable for season seven. Even so, season seven was a very young and inexperienced Yeti team. A rookie quarterback, rookie wide receiver, second year wide receiver, no running back, and a seasoned veteran tight end were the biggest contributors on offense. It led to an anemic offense with a lot of mental lapses and general mistakes with inexperience.

Season eight is where the Yeti have gotten their first win after 32 straight losses. It was an incredible drought, but now with new game planning, some key trades, and the season 7 draft class fully available with the addition of Mark Grau and the Yeti have not only won one game, they are now in the playoff hunt with a 6-6 record. After being the butt of jokes for the league for many seasons they have now beat some of the leagues best teams and are a in a ridiculously good position to be an Ultimus contender next year.

The Yeti are one of the most fierce teams in the league that is nearing complete on both sides of the ball. A strong young defense and strong young offense is going to make them formidable for years to come.

One team that is clearly entering a rebuilding phase are the Philadelphia Liberty. This surprised many in the league as the Philadelphia Liberty are currently defending Ultimus Champions. The timing of entering the rebuild was also strange. After six weeks they were sitting at 5-1 poised to make a run at defending their title. However out of nowhere star defensive tackle was dealt to the Colorado Yeti for draft picks and no replacement player. That was the first of several dominos to fall over the next couple days. Immediately after the trade the GM and Co-GM of the Liberty stepped down setting the stage for adam2552 to return as GM of the team he founded. He took over and immediately began dismantling the team to pick up draft capital. He traded almost every player on the team except Tyler Oles. Micah Hendrix is suiting up for the rival Yellowknife Wraiths while Vikain Marmeldov is down the turnpike in Baltimore now. Starting RB, and TD vulture, Damien Krotech is wearing crimson in Colorado. Future Hall of Fame TE Paul DiMirio switched conferences to help solidify the playoff hopes of the up and coming New Orleans Second Line. With the entire team gutted, the Liberty will look to begin making a whole new team over the course of the next couple drafts and usher in the 2.0 version of their franchise.

I admire what the San Jose Sabercats did last season by admitting that at their current state, they won't be able to win a playoff game. That's realism and I appreciate it. Not to mention, the Yeti and the Second Line are both just coming out of a rebuild and they look poised to dominate their divisions for the next 5-7 seasons. So more and more teams are thinking of a rebuild. More and more players are getting fluid with their teams and jumping from team to team, whichever one has the best shot of winning the Ultimus. I think next team to just on the rebuild train should be the Arizona Outlaws. Let's get real here, Second line will be the powerhouse soon and the Otters are right now. There's no room for the Outlaws. They have some vet players they could sell off and at least recoup some assets instead of letting them slide into regression and be stuck as the 6th best team in the league for the next 4 seasons. Guys like Bronko, Mackworthy, and some defensive pieces could let Zona get some draft capital for the S10 and S11 draft where lots of recreates should start showing up. 204

Being on the Philadelphia Liberty there did seem to be a sense of imminent doom coming to the team. There only seemed a few years left for the team to truly compete and the fact that they won a year prior really gave a sense that at least for now the objective was met. With many of the players in their downside of their years it was a matter of time before they either retired or the team dealt them for draft picks. Eventually the day came. With Tyler Oles retiring, and Philly management trading all the original players to almost everyone and anyone that would accept. With Dimirio going to the New Orleans, Marmeladov going to the Baltimore Hawks with Cliff Rove. Philly was banking on getting picks and tanking to get a higher pick in the draft. Well… they got the picks they were looking for but strangely enough they did good for a little bit and are second in the NSFC. While the Hawks who many were expecting to make a big leap have struggled ever since the trades. Eventually though many of these teams that have been the top dogs in the league will eventually have to face the retirement and the curse of the tail-end of careers of their players. It will be interesting to see how the managements are able to refloat their ships.

The Baltimore Hawks went all in this year. The feeling in the front office (and around the league) was that the Hawks were a true contender for the Ultimus. After some impressive wins and a 3-0 start, it looked like people may have been right. Then, tragedy hit. The Hawks forgot how to do much of anything well and went 1-7 in the next 8 games. However, they began to return to form, won the next 3 games, and narrowly clinched their first playoff appearance since season 5. Regardless of how things go this season, it has become readily apparent however that things are going to have to change soon. They Hawks have a fantastic core on both the offense and defense, but they’re definitely on the old side. LeClair finished with just under 1200 yards receiving and lead the league in TD receptions, but he’s a season 1 rookie and will take his second regression hit this off-season, while QB Blocksdale and RB Taylor will both undergo their first regression. On the defensive side, Hendrix, Broadway, Turner under go their second regression, with Valentine hanging up his cleats for good. There are some young, very bright spots on the team however, specifically with L’Alto on offense and Asipi and Gabino of defense, who look to be the best young defensive line in the NSFL.
