(S13) - PT 3 - NSFL Appreciation Week - JVMjrDOT - 02-23-2019 One of the things I love about the NSFL is how you actually get to watch your player play at least 4 games a week. These games are a ton of fun to watch, because you can see your player running, catching, throwing, all in real time. This is way above what the NSHL has, and the SHL doesn't even have a sim that you can watch. The box scores are simply posted every day, so there isn't much to watch. While the PBE does have a similar sim that you can watch, I seem to enjoy watching the NSFL more than any of the other sim leagues. I also like how simplified the player builds are. I've been in a few leagues where there are so many attributes to upgrade that it can be overwhelming. Here in the NSFL, it's very streamlined and easy to decide what attribute to upgrade next. To add to my point I made earlier, it is very inviting to new players, as the minor league gets just as much sim time as the majors does. In the PBE, the minors only gets a few games shown each sim, where the majors gets the majority of the screen time. (S13) - PT 3 - NSFL Appreciation Week - AngelTwelve - 02-23-2019 My favorite NSFL moment is easy for me to pinpoint. After being relatively inactive after the sabercats drafted me, I was very discouraged from continuing to try being active in the league. I had lost motivation and didn't want to do anything. Then, I was told I was traded to my current team, the Yellowknife Wraiths. Ever since I have joined the Wraiths, I've been much more active. Guys like @Daybe and @White Cornerback have gone the extra mile to make me feel welcome and a part of the team. I plan on being their TE until I retire. I love my team and I'm blessed to be there. So far we've had rough seasons together, but soon we'll be at the top of the league. Whether I'm playing FB again or I'm at TE catching passes, I'm blessed to play for such a great organization that truly cares about their locker room. We're friends and family in Yellowknife. I wouldn't have it any other way. Getting traded to the Wraiths was the biggest blessing I could have been given. I've made wonderful friends. I love them all. It's been beyond wonderful so far, and I expect great things to come from Pitcher & from the Wraiths... Also, shout out to the Pythons for bringing me into this league and helping me get started. Love those Snakes! (S13) - PT 3 - NSFL Appreciation Week - iseedoug - 02-23-2019 Man, I love the NSFL. Its very surprising that an online community of this size functions so well. It has many moving pieces, and a good number of people, but not enough people to make the scale of running such a cool thing an easy task. I think a lot of members dedicate a lot of time doing tedious things to make this league awesome. So, big shout out to updaters, simmers, bankers, GMs, point-task people, historians, etc. As many others have mentioned, I definitely find that level of friendship developed in LRs in this league is awesome, and impressive. First, I'll shout out my guy @nunccoepi. Nunc and I were literally talking to each other every day during our Luchador GMing career. Through that I think we have became good friends. Its actually a bit weird to think I only know nunc "online." And, now that our GM partnership is on hiatus, it's weird that we don’t talk everyday. But someday, we will bring back the dominate partnership. Then become legends. Sa-ber-cats. Man, this team is the best. I am not sure I can even tag every member of the team, but @Muford, @ckroyal92, @caltroit_red_flames, @Blastmeaway, @`To12143`, @GoonerBear, @`AndrewWarren13`, you guys are great friends, even if I do not get on discord enough, and I’m sorry I didn’t whisper in mabb’s ear “Muford says hi” (at least muford will get this). We are about to get the ring we have all been working hard for. Also, lots of awesome people come through Tijuana on their NSFL journey, they are all awesome. We couldn’t have won as many games as we did without awesome people behind the players. Anyway, I am sure I will play in this league until either I die or it dies. (S13) - PT 3 - NSFL Appreciation Week - mabb - 02-24-2019 So the NSFL is my only sim league, and I had no idea what sim leagues were till @iseedoug started around this time last year. He’s actually fairly obsessed with football, so I didn’t think too much of it at the time. But then he kept talking and thinking about it and giving you all so much of his time that it was starting to get annoying tbh. So eventually after a few months passed, he had to work on the 4th of July, and I had the day off. I was bored and still trying to figure out what to do with all my free time after finishing my masters. I’m not sure if it was the boredom, the lunch beer(s), wanting a creative outlet, the desire to actually share something football related with him, or all of the above, but I took the plunge and created Xandra. And after picking the Gretchen Weiners render, I was super excited that so many people responded so positively to Mean Girls ^.^ I was a little concerned about fitting in as a woman and spouse of someone here, and knowing I’m older than a bunch of you all, so that was a really nice welcome whether you knew it or not. I also was a bit relieved when I found out not everyone was a crazy football fanatic like my husband. I know I’m not as involved as iseedoug in the community, but I heard a lot about you all from him and still hear some (though now that I’m involved, I’m less in the know about secrets than before - go figure). Even though I’m an engineer and work in tech, I’m pretty uninvolved with anything internet community-esque, so this has been a really fascinating, if not a little weird, experience. It's been fun for us to spend time each week watching games together, doing point tasks side by side, and talking about what's new in the league. If you want to get a spouse/SO involved, feel free to reach out ha I’ve also enjoyed my few seasons so far as an updater - it’s pretty funny actually, coming from someone who finds Sudoku an incredibly relaxing activity. Checking people’s math is something I very much enjoy doing, but it also has really helped me understand how the league works, get to know some more people and their players, and develop stronger ties to the other folks here. Thanks for making me feel welcome, guys and gals, and I’m looking forward to whatever the future brings for Xandra [and Nax] and the Sabercats. I remember finding solace with @Ben when I explained my situation and he could comprehend what I was saying, albeit those paragraphs could've been sent altogether as opposed to 5000, single lines. I remember all the times this league brought me out of depression and other times gave me an escape that was temporary and not permanent and the latter choice came up far too often but thankfully I never followed through with it. <3 <3 <3 Having someone to talk to in Ireland who was actually up at the weird hours I found myself overthinking things was very helpful back in some of the less enjoyable days from 2017. You, @ADwyer87 and I found ourselves in pretty similar situations at the same time and I'd like to think we all helped each other through those times! (S13) - PT 3 - NSFL Appreciation Week - timeconsumer - 02-24-2019 I'll start this one at the beginning. I joined NSFL in May of 2017 before the S1 draft after finding this on reddit, this was my first foray into sim leagues. I quickly discovered how awesome this was and really have enjoyed my time here and the career of my first player Angus Winchester. It's hard to mention every good and bad memory, every person, and all the big and small moments in these last 15 months, but I will try. Starting off with those OG Otters from the S1-S3 days, the ones who got through the dark times of the Arizona dynasty with us. I really loved working with those folks, and some who are no longer in the league, I miss them sometimes. Since then I've been so heavily involved with simmer, competitive balancing, playbook fixes, and all that jazz. I got some really fun times in GM chat, a few heated arguments, I had a blast with Dermot and @iamslm22 and Dwyer simming games in the early mornings. I loved my time with @Jiggly_333 doing awards shows and drafts. I've read a ton of interesting and fun articles by people. And overall I'm just really happy with how far this league has come in these almost two years now. I still see room for improvement and I hope to see the league continue to thrive. (S13) - PT 3 - NSFL Appreciation Week - nunccoepi - 02-24-2019 So, it has come time for me to do this PT. Honestly, its such a good one that I feel like it should show up every few seasons. It's important that we are able to recognize what this community has done for us and the value it has. The PT is rather timely for me as well as Wednesday was my one year anniversary in the league. Sounds corny, ok, but I joined with a particular conception in my mind as to what it was despite not having ever heard of simulation leagues---but I was pretty doubtful. Turns out the league not only met my expectations, but blew me away. Turns out that this is a very generous and dedicated group of individuals (and some multiples). I've been challenged to grow and made to think in new ways by so many members who are intelligent, introspective, detail-oriented, and well spoken (when they want to be). Possibly most of all, its been cool to meet new people, just as competitive as I am, that share my love of sports and strategy. I'll give proper attention to shoutouts when L'Alto retires in a few seasons, but for now I wanted to shout out @iseedoug, @iamslm22, @PDXBaller, @Muford, @Daybe, @timeconsumer and @manicmav36 as just some of the players I am particularly appreciating this #NSFLAppreciationWeek (S13) - PT 3 - NSFL Appreciation Week - JBLAZE_THE_BOSS - 02-24-2019 My time in the NSFL has been an interesting one. Admittedly, I had little to no expectations when I saw that this league was launching. I thought the name—NSFL was horrible and would help with the league flopping. Nonetheless, I took the dive and created a QB in a heavy QB class. I experienced a weird situation with the Otters where it was a QB carousel, which in hindsight, was one of the more fun times I’ve had in recent sim league memory. It made me invested in the league and it was great to see all the work pay off. From Boss having 7 interception games and being a joke meme to the entire league all the way to the end where he was on top of the mountain as the league’s first “Great” QB. I think the Mike Boss career with the Otters is my favorite since I was in sim leagues as a kid back in the early-mid 00’s. This league has provided me way more entertainment than I ever figured it would, and I think my next player will be halfway decent as well. It’d be pretty cool to have two Hall of Fame careers with players on the same team. That’s my current goal. |
