Did you ever pressure someone into taking a min contract? I generally feel like NSFL teams are pretty accommodating. Like Armstrong - he said he wanted to buy equipment, OCO said "ok" and threw money at him. They didn't ask him to write media or something. I can understand the FA part of agents, and maaaaaaybe the pre-draft part of agents. I just don't think negotiations are the best example of an agent's role.I assume there are some people out there - especially first generation users - that aren't directly pressured but feel an implied pressure (rightly or wrongly) from our league culture of actives taking max length for min value. Being new to the site they don't want to rock the boat and potentially burn bridges just for a couple million more. They also don't necessarily know the lay of the league fully so they don't want to ask for something that winds up being ridiculous. I think after a few seasons in the league people get more comfortable knowing that they can pretty much ask for whatever they want and GMs will generally be accommodating, since money translates so reliably into TPE. That said, I've always hated being a free agent and waking up every morning with 7 new conversations and 38 highlights so I've endeavored to not ever become a free agent. It's just not a part of the league I enjoy so I'm ecstatic to hand that over to someone that does enjoy that. If there are more people like me out there that wouldn't hit free agency without having an agent to handle that I think this is a good thing for player mobility, parity, and the league in general. *A New Agency to NSFL? - 124715 - 05-13-2019 (05-13-2019, 12:18 PM)Beaver Wrote:I assume there are some people out there - especially first generation users - that aren't directly pressured but feel an implied pressure (rightly or wrongly) from our league culture of actives taking max length for min value. I still feel like NSFL GMs mostly work with new players, though. Like if a rookie asked for a big contract, I feel like the GM would just say something like "we don't have cap space for that". And I understand your point about FA, although I've never actually been a FA. *A New Agency to NSFL? - Beaver - 05-13-2019 (05-13-2019, 12:29 PM)124715 Wrote:I still feel like NSFL GMs mostly work with new players, though. I think part of this is the responsibility of the DSFL GM. They should be preparing their dudes for their future in the league and that includes explaining how to ask for more money in negotiations. *A New Agency to NSFL? - Beaver - 05-13-2019 (05-13-2019, 01:03 PM)timeconsumer Wrote:I think part of this is the responsibility of the DSFL GM. And I'm not convinced a player agency will solve that particular problem (if it exists) anyway. If new players feel an implied or cultural pressure to take minimum contracts wouldn't that same pressure dissuade them from hiring an agent? Maybe, idk. I've never really been one to have issues telling people what I want. *A New Agency to NSFL? - infinitempg - 05-13-2019 I know Wolfie will be signing an agent because we all know @infinitempg is a hardball GM.
