All About the QBs

I was very excited to see Showbiz versus Joilet. However, the matchup was completely underwhelming, disappointing, and all-around unenjoyable from a quarterback sense due to Showbiz shitting the bed in a huge 37-17 loss in San Jose during the battle for the ASFC Ultimus spot. This isn't to say Joilet was good. For a man named Christ, his performance wasn't very redeeming. He didn't throw a pick, but, his single touchdown wasn't very impressive considering his very beneficial gameplan. Joilet L. Christ had just 32 pass attempts against 41 rushing attempts. Did no one tell them this was a passing league? Hmm... guess not. Anyways, don't think I won't be talking about our friend James T Showbiz. Is his first name James? I think so. Maybe it's Gary? That feels closer. Gus? Let's stick with James T "T" Showbiz. Two T's. Unluckily for Showbiz, he doesn't have the opportunity to take a second playoff lost. He performed below par, but this is football not golf, and so below par in a playoff match against former NSFL MVP candidate Joilet Christ will simply not be good enough. Joilet versus Gambino should prove to be a better matchup, as Showbiz got no help from his own running game (or gameplan at least) and Gambino will. (213 words)

Next Year

The Arizona Outlaws are now eliminated from Ultimus contention... they were a while ago, in fact, but they currently still are! That's kinda how playoffs work. But next year? I won't actually be on the team next year, but I'm confident in the Outlaws' ability to at least make the playoffs, if not go all the way to win an Ultimus trophy, come next season. Why? A few factors. First of all, the upcoming expansion draft will certainly cause some damage to established teams in loss of players. However, S15 players are immune to the expansion draft and don't require a protection slot, and Arizona is full of young players. They're in a unique position where they can't lose some future core players, and have the protection slots necessary for important current pieces of the roster. The Yeti can protect all their actives... but don't have enough to be good still. Baltimore has a lot of good players... but less S15 youth, and therefore will struggle when their more than 6 protected players are removed by expansion. I may not be returning to Arizona next season - instead playing in the DSFL with my new player, Ashley Owens - but I have confidence in my former team of 11 seasons. <3 Much love, Arizona! (212 words)

Rivalries

San Jose is secretly a dumpster fire and I have confidence they will lose the Ultimus. But run, you haven't even paid attention to games or standings or anything all season! Yeah... that's true. However, 11 seasons as an Outlaw will give you what I like to call, in reminiscence (theft) of the iconic Georgia vs Georgia Tech rivalry, good ole fashioned hate. Early on as a general manager, I would think "my Outlaws team may not be great, but gosh heck they sure are better than San Jose". Because we were! For a little while. But believe me, if there's one thing I know about San Jose, it's that they will choke eventually. And they've now done too well all season to not choke now. I predict an absolute blowout loss of 14-38. Possibly 14-41. Why? Because San Jose is overrated and sucks and I hate that they finally got an Ultimus win. It's not personal at all!! I love a lot of the players on the San Jose roster. I just wish they weren't in that disgusting, choke-inducing green. Kinky bastards. Anyways, I've already mentioned Gambino vs Christ... Joilet doesn't have what it takes to win a quarterback battle on the biggest stage of football. Good luck, San Jose. I only wish good luck because I know you're too bad for any luck to save you. Spotlight on Youth

Youth. It matters. There's a reason you draft the 21 year old speed runningback in Madden who has similar measurables to a 23 year old balanced runningback who has a funny name. The 21 year old won't have his physical attributes brutally murdered by regression quite so soon. Furthermore, he'll have more of an impact early on. One young player making a sudden and surprising shockwave for the Hawks right now, as they approach the Ultimus, is Corey Trevor. They basically didn't use him all season, then BOOM! 17 carries in their playoff victory versus the Philadelphia Liberty. Quite impressive indeed. I don't expect his impact to be this significant in the Ultimus as well, however, it will be interesting to watch what impact he does have. He definitely helped star runningback Marquise Brown's production. A young player to watch in the Ultimus for the San Jose Sabercats is Cameron Olsen. A tight end drafted in Season 15, Olsen caught the Sabercats' only touchdown pass of the ASFC championship game. He also had three other receptions, totaling for 41 yards. And let's not discount his single pancake! Pancakes are important, people. Having a young tight end who's both a receiving threat and a good blocker is invaluable. (207 words)

3. 7) Next year
Written: If your team has been eliminated, why will next year, or the year after that, be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus or Ultimini.

So, crushing defeat, right? Well, you aren't wrong, it was but it doesn't mean that we have given up hope of winning again. Going into the next season, we still have an elite team on both sides of the ball and one of the more complete teams in the league. The corner spot and running back spot needs to be addressed at some point but so far we really have a shot to do big things. With our offense, we can throw a lot of running backs in and have them do great things in our Spread attack and with our "Large Lads" duo of Olsen and Wright being progressed even more, look for the Cats to utilize them in the offense more and more. Along with Flash becoming the number one guy and Ahri Esspeeyeeceetee coming up, the offense won't take much hit even after losing a perennial WR of the year candidate in Oles. Christ should be a top rated QB next year or at least top 2 or 3, and the defense is returning almost every piece. There are some small holes but free agency and the draft should help in terms of addressing those. The Cats will rise again! Meow!

4. 8) Strategies
Written: Unless you won the Championship, what changes does your team need to make in the offseason to improve your chances next year.

I alluded to this a little bit in the previous topic but I can go in a little more depth here with the new season on the horizon. Running back is the biggest need right now on offense for the Cats as Orosz is a talented player but not developing much more, same with Davenport though the duo did great things last season in a tandem and so far look to continue that. Maybe a move is made or a draftee at the position but I would not say it is the biggest needfor the whole team, just on offense. The defense, however, loses some big pieces with Poopsie heading off to Chicago and Troyski hitting free agency along with some valuable pieces on defense that will likely be picked up in the expansion draft. With Troyski leaving and Castle unprotected, the corner position is THE biggest need of the Cats this off-season. Whether it be by draft or by free agency, it is the major spot that needs addressed. Luckily the slew of safeties on the roster can make up for it a little bit, but for now, the team needs more dedicated corner backs on the roster in order to keep their defense whole. Defensive line is another spot which could use a little bolstering but there is still talent there even if expansion nabs one or two of the guys.

Playoff Reviews:

The finals matchup was about what anyone who paid attention to the league this season would've expected. The Hawks had completely dominated the NSFC, while the Sabercats did the same to the ASFC. In the conference championship games, their respective dominations continued. The Hawks took down the Liberty by 21, while the Sabercats did about the same against the Otters in beating them by 20. You'd think that the finals would be a pretty fair matchup at that point, but it turned out to not be the case. The Hawks absolutely steamrolled the Sabercats, as our defense couldn't stop them at all while our offense couldn't get anything going. Deringer and Poopsie were at least able to do some damage in forcing the Hawks to lose yards by sacks or tackles for loss, but Gambino still had a monster game befitting his monster season, while Christ had one of his worst performances in quite some time. Interestingly enough, the Hawks struggled to run the ball despite all this, only averaging 3.7 yards per carry. For San Jose to lose by 49 in what should've been a fairly competitive meeting and despite only turning the ball over 1 time is quite demoralizing - it will be interesting to see if the Sabercats can recover from this.

Spotlight on Youth:

Olsen is a player on the Sabercats that I am really excited to watch going forward. The young tight end really put on a show throughout the playoffs this season. First up, against the Liberty, he was able to haul in 4 passes for 41 yards. That is pretty strong for a young player who is a true tight end and not one of these flex hybrid types. He added a touchdown to that as well as one pancake, showcasing his all-around skill set. As I already talked about, the Sabercats had a good game overall against the Liberty, so it is not too surprising for their tight end to have performed well. However, even in that gruesome game against the Hawks, Olsen really left it all out on the field. He was the only receiving option that was able to get consistently open against the tough Baltimore secondary, serving as something of a check down for Christ. His 5 receptions led the team, as nobody else was able to bring in more than 2. The only issue was those receptions only went for 30 yards overall for a pretty low average. However, when no one else had stepped up to make something happen, just grinding out those chucks of yards is certainly respectable. He did commit one penalty for 10 yards, though added 2 pancakes on blocking duty to balance that out a bit. Overall, Olsen put up a solid performance while leaving room for growth going forward as he becomes even more integral to the team's offense.

2. The Sabercats can win on the road pretty easily and here is why they can steal the game from Marquise Brown, Gambino, and the rest of the Baltimore Hawks. First off, they have a very good defense. Headed by the Pennington brothers, the Sabercats have a defense that may have a claim to being the best in the league. This will be crucial to stop the lethal rushing attack of the Hawks and force Gambino to make all of the right throws. They also have an elite quarterback in Christ and a great rushing attack with ORosz, Oles, and Davenport. All three of them scored in the last game and they could help penetrate through the Baltimore defense and steal a game on the road. It wouldn't be too shcoking if the Sabercats actually ended up winning this game because they were here last season and won themselves a ring. Now, I don't expect the sabercats to win this game because the Hawks are just as lethal on both sides of the ball and they also have the homefield advantage. I do, however, expect the Sabercats to put up a fight and have potential in the last quarter to end up winning the game.

3. I came into this season knowing absolutely nothing about quarterbacks in general in this legaue, but I have fallen in love with Childish Gambino at QB. I wanted him in my fantasy draft, but I was not allowed to take him because he was taken before I could (what idiot picked Ricky Adams so early). Gambino will undoubtedly tear up the playoffs, though, after one of the greatest regular season performances that the league has ever seen from the quarterback position. He led the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and had the fewest interceptions among the quarterbacks. His quarterback rating was over 100 for the season, proving how incredible he played the game. Gambino is not just a one season wonder, either. He has been doing this for a while now and is one of the best players the league has seen in a very long time. I think that he will end up being the playoff MVP because its what he is used to. Marquise Brown could challenge him with his brilliance, but Gambino is simply a one of a kind quarterback. We have not seen the kind of decision making as well as ability to sling the ball in a long time. He is a dynamic player I am excited to see.

7) Next year is the Arizona Outlaws' year. Last year we went 2-12 and had absolutely no hope moving forward. Both of the first round picks from the year prior were in the minor leagues still (Leighton Lee and Gekuyeme Stokeley). It looked like the team had no hopes and would have to rely on these players coming out as stud. Since then however, there has been a lot of good news. Here's the big thing, we absolutely killed the draft last season. We got Landers, Jammerson, and a bunch of other studs who are well on their ways to 1000 TPE careers. I know TPE doesn't mean everything, but if you max out you are likely to be an elite player and that just seems like statistical logic. This season we only finished two games out of the playoffs and some of us (me) hadn't even updated for most of the season. I think that we will be an elite level team very soon because we are young and are moving our stars towards stardom. We will also likely make a splash in free agency or through a trade this season, so I think that it set us up well for the future. If we get a bit more offensive firepower and defensive development, we are a shoe-in for the playoffs.

17) Robbed, yeah we were definitely robbed of the playoffs this past season. We got screwed when we realized the sim doesn't take into account team chemistry at all. It doesn't understand the fact that we not only have talent, but we have talent that works well as a unit and all strive to be better than before. I think the sim is a cool engine, but it doesn't take into account the dysfunctionality of some teams, whereas we are a team that has no issues with each other and love working together to get better. I also think the sim vastly underrated how good our defense was. We have a bunch of young players who elevated their game throughout the season and continued to get better, but the sim didn't necessarily take that into account. I also think the sim makes it hard to use a scat back. I'm not sure if that is actually factual, but I felt like Ricky Adams would have a much larger impact than he actually ended up having. I envisioned him as a healthy Chris Thompson, but that is hard to execute with this sim. Overall, I think a lot of things could have gone one way or the other and a lot just didn't go our way. SUch is life.

Next Year:

The Wraiths have struggled for a long time. Believe me, I know. That being said, this football team is headed in the right direction now. Honestly, I do not think it would be a stretch to see us push for an Ultimus Title.

The defensive line, for example, is loaded with young talent, players ready to take the league by storm. And, of course, myself, the old man Zach Skinner, still plugging away after all these years. Veteran leadership is always nice, but really, it’s the young blood that will be pushing this unit. And with the front four that we have, this could very well end up the best defense in professional football.

As for the offense, the passing attack has always been solid, and our back, Canton, led the league in Yards per carry among players with 90+ rushing attempts, while Marshall ran for over 800 yards and a whopping 16 touchdown runs.

Either way, for me at least, it very well could to be one last run. Coming off a season where I set a new career high in tackles with 51, priorities are changing and my body is breaking down. At some point, enough is going to be enough. With two children and a wife weighing against the possibility of serious long term injuries, football is becoming more and more of a job than a passion. But one more year? I can do that, at the very least.

Strategies:

Well, to be honest, I think we normally come in with a solid game plan and we have the talent on both sides of the ball to give us a chance to win football games. Sometimes, it just happens to not go our way. That being said, there are some things that I think need to change.

First off, the younger guys on the defensive line need to be put in more of a position to succeed. While I respect our GM’a decision to give me a chance to make plays, I will readily admit that I have lost a step. I’m not as explosive, not as fast, not quite as strong, as I was in my prime. [see: S13, 11 sacks] While I continue to consistently produce at a high level, I think it is time to give the younger players a chance to show their worth, even if it means lesser production for myself. They have already shown that they can take over games, and this should only exemplify that.

Offensively, our passing attack was solid, and always seems to be, but in order to take that next step, we need to improve in that area as well. And, truth be told, I think that it will. We have one hell of a quarterback and an explosive group of playmakers around him.

Rivalries:

The San Jose Sabercats can go to hell. That really is all there is to it. They may have been the top seed overall, and they are in the Ultimus this year. But, guess what? They still suck. The Sabercats will never ever ever win an Ultimus title because they are an absolutely abysmal organization. They may win games from time to time. They may has a promising season or two in a row, but that’s just to get the fan base excited.

Because, San Jose, let’s be honest here. The entire team is a joke. Great players? Sure. A solid GM? Yup. But the team itself? Garbage. No matter how much high end talent, great locker room guys, or veteran leadership they have, they’ll never win anything. Because they are, in the end, just the San Jose Sabercats.

Look, I really do not want this to come off as me hating any individual on the team. I’m sure that, in all reality, they’re a bunch of great guys working hard to get a trophy. But that doesn’t change the facts, unfortunately. It isn’t any of the personnel. It isn’t any of the players. It’s just that it’s the San Jose Sabercats. They are doomed to never be great.

Oh, and the trophy they have? Doesn’t count. Because I said so.

Normally I would write this about the San Antonio Marshals but they were too shell shocked from an entire history of losing to the Tijuana Luchadores in the playoffs to even qualify this season so I guess instead I have to talk about the Palm Beach Solar Bears who I was very glad to see lose in the Ultimini because that spot should have been Tijuana's and I'm still salty and bitter about that development which I think is totally fair since Tijuana was the better team but just wasn't that game I mean shit maybe I should just be grateful that the score was that close when we lost the turnover margin 5-0 like that should be a blow out but nothing will stop me from being salty so here I am being salty in my Ultimus Week because this is the best place to be salty I hate Championship Week and Ultimus Week my god it's so much writing and then a procrastinate so I have to sit up at like 1:42 AM on a Friday night typing it all out anyway that's why I wanted the Palm Beach Solar Bears to lose and am glad they did also I think slm might've been the GM of the Solar Bears at one point but I'm not 100% sure but if he was that's another reason to want them to lose.

The Yellowknife Wraiths have been growing each season since Josh Parker joined the roster in season 12, they didn’t have a complete active core back then but the roster has improved tremendously. They have been unable to make the playoffs but have come the closest this season which the team was super disappointed in that they just barely missed. They started the season off fantastic but soon dropped off and ended up just barely missing the playoffs, which shouldn’t have happened but it’s the way the sim works and he’s salty of course. They have added some really key pieces to the Yellowknife Wraiths these last 2 seasons and the receivers on the team are looking better than they have in a really long time. They also have some of the best quarterbacks in the league are looking good after looking in their veteran core for another season. They do lack some positions though so hopefully they are able to sign some free agents this season to help their core players and become a playoffs this season, I think this is the season that they don’t miss the playoffs and might even make a break for it and even take it all the way.. ya I said it.

We didn’t win a championship this season but were probably the closest to getting there then we have been in a while. Like I said in the paragraph above the Yellowknife Wraiths were the closest to making the playoffs and missed. They started the season so strong and had a hot streak going but that soon crumbled and they started falling back. The team will need to sign some free agents to fill their weak spots and sign a super star that will lead the team to victory. I think if they were able to sign someone with high TPE and continue to have strong drafts the Yellowknife Wraiths will be in the post season for seasons to come. It’s hard to say if it will be next year or the year after but I do expect them to be there soon. They have such a tight core right now and just locked up their veterans for another season. The window for them to make the playoffs is now and they need to sign some free agents to get there right away. Hopefully in the next week we will see a big name land on the roster if not we will need the younger guys on the team to step up and lead the way.

1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews:

Lets talk about the wonderful round one match between the baltimore hawks and the philadelphia liberty and we all know who was going to win but this is still a great game because there is so much to talk about. The hawks knew they were going to win before the game so they still had fun and mock the players and doing their own thing. So minutes into the game, the hawks allowed te philly offense to get to the zone and get the field gone. But then party was offer. 3 straight touch downs from the first quarter, second quarter, and third quarter and that was when the dreams was over. But then the hawks allowed them to get a free field goal and they started to smile a but that smile turned into depression when the hawks got 2 more touchdowns. score was 34-6 in the late 4th quarter and philly had their hopes for the ultimus ended by the hawks as usual and that was revenge for last season and now philly will spend the rest of the summer crying and wishing they never had a football team while the hawks go party all summer long and spit it to the city of philly.

6) Our Time

The baltimore hawks are favourites to win the ultimus. First of all, lets look at it desperately in 3 different ways and these 3 ways are why the hawks will win the ultimus. First of all, offense. Their offense went on to have a historic season. Scoring 520 points which is just 10 points behind NOLA's 530 back in s9. And they won the ultimus that season. The offense has been dynamite. The hawks have the best QB, best RB, best TE and one of the best WR. their offense is just perfect. Their defense is also the best in the league led by Roenick, Horne, Trout, Asipi, and Hornbacker. They all are elite especially Roenick who is an old fuck but is about to be the leading tackle player in history. So obviously defense wins championships and the hawks defense is the best in the league. Special teams is also the best. Frost is the best kicker in the league he can make any field goal attempt because he is a strong boy. So that is why the hawks are going to win the ultimus and I can see the future that they are partying all week and all summer long because they are the best.

10) Rivalries

Lol lets talk about who is the shit team and who is overrated. The philadelphia liberturds are so overrated. I do not get why people say this team is actually good. I know they make the playoffs but that is just luck. Last season was such luck and guess what happened, they lost and lost badly and allowing a team like the sabercats to win the ultimus. The hawks beat them 49-0 this season and philly cant even have a close game against them. Philly is very overrated with a terrible defense and a quarterback who only knows how to throw picks because falconi does not have a good running back anymore because he made the right decision to leave and good recievers. Obviously I want them to lose because they do not deserve shit. They should suck and finish last and draft a bust because everyone would love to see that happen season by season. This is a rivalry so obviously we hate each other but guess who has more rings and playoff appearances and less chokes? Philly should be extinct and never to be a sports anymore because not only do they have a shit franchise and a shit city, but their fanbase sucks.

1) Playoff Results

Well, the Ultimus happened and that's about everything positive that you can say about it from a Sabercats' perspective. We got absolutely smoked by Childish and Friends, 49-0. That's hard to stomach. Childish saved one of his best performances for his swansong, 28/50 for 421 yards and six total touchdowns. Joliet couldn't get anything going in the passing game, completing well under 40% of his passes for under 140 passing yards, and only 30 more on the ground on seven carries. About the only Sabercat who had a day to write home about was Kolby Deringer, who had three sacks and a couple of deflections. D'Pez Poopsie and Spencer Castle did OK as well, but that's about it. On the other side, Errol Maddox and Vinny Valentine went for over 100 receiving yards. Five different Hawks caught a touchdown pass. Declan Harp both led the team in receptions and blocked a punt. Steven Oats had 3 TFLs, a sack, and a safety. Marquise Brown quietly grinded out another 100 yard game. It was just an absolute drumming from all sides, and the Sabercats are quite ready to move into the offseason.

7) Next year

OK, so S15 didn't end exactly the way the Sabercats were hoping, but the offseasons are never that long in the NSFL, and S16 is just a few weeks away, and I think we've got some good things to look forward to. For starters, Childish Gambino is retiring, meaning Baltimore is gonna go through some drop off. But besides him, almost every major piece of their offense is hitting regression. Marquise Brown, Vinny Valentine, Viggo Squanch, Verso L'Alto, and Declan Harp are all about to hit their twilight. As for us? The Pennington twins, Kolby Deringer, and Xavier Flash. That's it. Now, we are gonna lose Kazimir Oles to free agency, but we drafted Ahri Espeeyeeseetee for just that reason, and Xavier Flash is finally ready to step into a #1 receiver role. We have 18 players who are still at least a year away from the clutches of regression including Joliet L. Christ, D'Pez Poopsie (the league's highest rated DE), Xandra Troyski (will be the highest rated CB after Ryan Applehort regresses), Freezer Riposte (the league's highest rated DT), two of our three starting safeties (all of who are over 590 TPE at the moment), and of course our two starting tight ends, Cameron Olsen and Dan Wright (#LargeLads). If anything, I'm slighting worried that we're gonna get poached in the expansion draft, because we won't have enough protections to save all of our stars. But we'll see how that goes.

8) Strategies

Right now the Sabercats have a brutally complete roster. We're going to have to wait until after the expansion draft to know exactly what holes we have to fill, but let's look at where we stand right now. Our obvious most glaring need is at running back. Chris Orosz is fine for now, but he's been IA for months and the recent dearth of RBs in last year's draft is only going to make Orosz look worse with each passing year. I would love it if we somehow landed Sam Torenson in the draft, but he might be gone by the time we pick. There just aren't that many exciting RBs in free agency this year, so if we don't get Torenson or maybe Mako Mendonca in the second, we might just have to wait a year to really address the position. We could also use another guy in the front seven, because we basically have an elite DE, two elite LBs, a good DE, and a good DT, and that's it. That's only five out of the front seven we have set in stone, so perhaps we could target DE Chad Maulalo or LB Blake Faux to fill out those last couple of spots. The team that we're going to field in S16 is going to be one of the top teams in the league, provided we don't lose too many parts, and adequately replace the ones we do.

10) Rivalries

Before the Sabercats got decleated in the Ultimus, they made it to the conference championship round where they faced an old foe. The Orange County Otters. The Sabercats and the Otters have faced off in the ASFC Championship Game in each of the last four years, and this year, the Sabercats won, bringing this series to two wins a piece. If you're expecting this series to go to five games next season, you aren't alone, because I think they have a good enough roster to be the second best team in the conference next year. But I don't think they have enough to beat us in that series to make it to the Ultimus next year. Their QB just hit regression and is about to take a big hit to his TPE. The running back they drafted last year, Apollo Reed, has only been improving marginally over the course of the season, and doesn't seem like anything more than a change of pace back. Their receiving corps for next year is good (Sunnycursed, Anoa'i, and Blaze at TE), but ours is better (Flash, Espeeyeeseetee, and the Large Lads at TE). And we have more high end talent on the defensive side of the ball then they do (San Jose has seven defenders over 600 TPE, Orange County has six). So I think we can both make it one more time, before Arizona or New Orleans (or maybe even Austin) start catching up and making the ASFC Championship hunt exciting again.
