(S16) - Ultimus Week - Jonny2x - 08-08-2019

Task 1 - PBE PT

Task 2 - Playoff Review
With home field advantage throughout, the Chicago Butchers looked to have all the momentum in the world heading into the playoffs. The Butchers had gone undefeated at home during the regular season and looked to be the team to beat. That all came to a crashing halt when they gave up an alarming 47 points in the NSFC and lost to the Philadelphia Liberty. With fairly tempered expectations headed into the season due to being an expansion team the Butchers made waves and seemed to get stronger as the season went on. Whatever the reason the Liberty just seemed to have the Butchers number with 47 points actually being only the second most they put up against Chicago this season.
The Butchers look to be young enough to stay together and make another run next season but the draw at winning an Ultimus in their first season of existence would have been epic. Another year under their QB’s belt and the number one wide receiver not showing any signs at all of slowing down looks to bring a few more big plays to the offense next season. The defense was fairly young all the way around and will only improve from here. Don’t be too down about the Butchers, they will be back next season, guaranteed.

Task 3- Next year
The Chicago Butchers will be back, count on that. Sam Torenson will come back next season in even better shape than he ended the season. The Butchers have lost a key lineman on defense but are still active in the free agent market and all of our defense will have a full year of seasoning. As well as our defense played overall last season there were definite moments of youth that showed up and unfortunately a spurt of that showed in the 3rd quarter of the playoff game with the Liberty.
One big change will be in management though it seems like it was just a slight shuffle as D’Pez will remain on the team. Lightsout moves into head office and what he lacks in experience I am certain he will more than make up in work ethic and sheer determination. I expect to see a very similar butchers team next season and very similar high end results. I believe Lightsout and Kazimir will start to make some moves in S18 when some of the S15 guys become free agents. This team was built right and our window is certainly not a small one. That said we need to take advantage and put up a couple of championships as teams like the Butchers don’t come together often.

Task 4- Strategies
Next season the strategy should be to put the ball in Torenson’s hands even more. He will be stronger, more agile and have much better endurance. To help with this strategy shift the Butchers will have to make some more room in their salary cap and upgrade a few of the offensive lineman. This past season Chicago only had 1 pro bowl caliber offensive lineman. If the upper management can work the numbers and bring in some more offensive line talent then Torenson should see even more daylight and should be able to make some of those looks payoff big time. Sam led the league in rushing despite his longest run being 17 yards. With a few more creases a lot of his runs should turn into 20 or 30 yarders and his yards per carry should see a big improvement. If that is the case he will move the chains and change field position even more consistently than he did this season. If the Butchers settle for fewer field goals and score more touchdowns it will take a lot of pressure off the defense, allowing them to really cut loose and make some big plays. With these small tweaks in strategy I could see Sam threatening the 2000 yard plateau next season!

3) All about the QBs
It’s very interesting that after like, two years of talking about Rose Jenkins v Adriana Falconi it finally happens. The two women at the QB position finally face up against eachother in a game that really matters. The difference is, Jenkins wasn’t really relied on in this game. In fact, Jenkins hadn’t been relied on all season. The real standout rookie for the Chicago Butchers was their runningback, Sam Torrenson. So when it came to this “QB Matchup”, it didn’t seem like much of a contest.

And it wasn’t? It’s confusing. Adriana Falconi only threw 2 TD passes and giving up a pick six to start off the game. Rose Jenkins threw 3 TD passes and ended up throwing the ball at Lennox Garnett 3 times. Falconi also had about a hundred more yards and had two more completions on five more passes. Still, Rose did her best to try to put the team on her back, since consensus rookie of the year Torrenson was struggling all day. On Philly’s side, Farley Hank was doing a lot of the heavy lifting on offense with pounding in three TDs.

In the end, while Falconi got “Player of the Game” and the win overall, this was much more of a draw between the two players and things might be very different next time around if Rose gets good enough to be trusted more often by her coaches.

6) Our Time
Yes, this is late and we know exactly what happened. But it was an upset and there was a reason that it was an upset. Going into the playoffs, it was expected that the Ultimus would pit the Chicago Butchers up against the Orange County Otters and the Butchers had home-field advantage. The Chicago Butchers were absolutely the favorites to win it all. They went from an expansion team to Ultimus contenders in a matter of weeks (in NSFL terms). After losing two games in Weeks 4 and 5, they didn’t drop a single one for the rest of the season. This was a team that seemed destined to make NSFL history as the first expansion team to win the championship in their first season, much like their neighbor in Chicago, the Chicago Fire.

What happened against the Philadelphia Liberty was an upset and kind of ruined what was a magical season. Sam Torrenson carried the team all the way through the season and Rose Jenkins, while not exactly a great QB by any means, was still average enough to keep the passing game somewhat respectable. The defense was the usual scary Chicago D and it just felt like the ‘85 Bears. Unfortunately it didn’t happen, but it would’ve been amazing if it did.

7) Next year
Take everything I said about last season and then realize that the Chicago Butchers are still a fairly young team compared to the rest of the league. Most of the team’s top performers are S10 or S14. The absolute top performer on the team was a rookie who will only get better. All they need to do next season is to just have all of those guys keep earning and keep winning. This is a team set up to win right now and Oles did a fantastic job at constructing it. A young QB and a young RB who are both willing to push themselves for that extra TPE, a WR who was already established within the league with the Sabrecats, and a defense led by a young LB. It’s honestly insane how well set the team is.

The biggest problem in the way is the idea of chance. It’s possible that our beloved random number generator may have given the Chicago Butchers a miracle season last season and it will be harder to achieve it this time around. On the other hand, with all of these players constantly improving I can’t see that as something that would diminish the team’s chances. Even if we got lucky, the team will still be quality enough to at least make the playoffs next season. Whether or not it’ll be as a first seed again or not will depend.

12) Sit-down with a star
I interviewed Moonlight: http://nsfl.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=...ndpost&p=209896

1. The Otters have now seen possibly their greatest hiatus from winning championships in their team's history. What does this mean for the Otters?

2. Your top WRs are both testing FA and Gus TT Showbiz tested FA before re-signing with the Otters. How will you fit into this offense with another star QB and will there be any weapons for you to throw to?

3. How do you feel about the Tijuana Luchadores winning their sixth championship, a feat no team has accomplished in either league to date? And does that taint your experience with the DSFL at all?

4. What are your goals on the field this season and for the duration of your career?

13) Sit-down with a fan:

@moonlight interviewed me:

1. What is the expectation in the Hawks locker room on how you guys can get back to the big game in S17?
The expectations are still high. We need to continue to identify and build on our weaknesses--right now, namely, defensive line. And we'll continue to play to our strengths as well. Right now thats our offense, and the good news is that Havran is only getting better.

2. Are there any defensive beasts in the S17 draft that you hope to play alongside in a Hawks uniform?
You know, I've been taking some time off since the last game. This is only the second time in my ten year career that I haven't made the playoffs. So all this time off has been actually pretty nice for a creaky veteran. So I haven't had a chance to check out the up and comers yet. Although I'm looking forward to it. I've heard there's some real talent there.

3. Is Alto gonna retire at some point?
Of course. None of us can escape it. I reckon I've got no more than two seasons left in me. Hopefully I'll go out in a good spot but it's odd to be finally looking retirement square in the face and almost be able to count down the days.

4. What steps does Havran have to take in order to reach the next step in his development?
Havran needs to keep doing exactly what he's been doing. I'm not worried about him at all. In fact he really didn't have a bad season at all. We just need to get him and the whole offense back on the field as quickly as possible. that's our focus for the season.

(S16) - Ultimus Week - Bwestfield - 08-08-2019

Next year: If your team has been eliminated, why will the next year, or the year after that, be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus or Ultimini.

The Colorado Yeti were the second worst team in the national simulation football league. The only reason they were the worst is because they had one win… against the worst team, the Austin Copperheads. Both teams look to bounce back in S17. The Yeti had a lot of issues, mostly because they couldn’t get their green quarterback Wolfie McDummy started. However, with a proper offseason and some more training he could make the step to the next level. He has weapons all over the field so the issue is purely with McDummy and not the rest of the squad. Wolfie McDummy will train with his counterparts and they will get better because of it. The addition of Lazlo 42 will also benefit McDummy who did not have him out on the field last year. With their offense solidified and their defense already doing well they should be in a good spot for playoffs next year. I know the defense looked terrible this year but they were exhausted having to pick up the slack after all the three and out attempts by the offense. The Yeti will add to their core group with some draft picks and make their playoff push and show why Colorado is a good free agent destination.

Our Time: Why should your team be looked at the favorite to win the Ultimus or Ultimini this season.

The Arizona Outlaws have come so far under the rulings of Swagsloth. Not only should he be proud of his accomplishments as GM / Quarterback but his players should also praise him for the wonderful turnaround he has performed. The Outlaws were in a really tight spot after Kevin Fitzpatrick decided to retire in the prime of his career. He really put the team as a whole in a bind. I would imagine that many of the players that were around during his time there and that are still there are sending him pictures of their new trophy. The reason that the team is the favorite going into the ultimus is they have a strong bond that cannot be broken. They dont have home field advantage in the playoffs but can pull it off anyways. They have a great core team with Andrew Reese under center. Winning 7 games and losing 6 all they needed to do was focus on the next 3 games. They did just that and outscored their opponents 106-54. Slim Shady is also an amazing player, very fast. He helped set up the pass game. With teams having to protect against his explosive running, defenses were unable to cover the deep threat allowing Brock Landers to get it done.

Enemies: Not everyone loves each other, write 200 words on an opposing player or player in this year's playoffs about how they will struggle, why do you want them to lose? (Don't be too mean).

It is true not everyone loves each other. There are a bunch of rivalries in this league and some players wont play for the same team knowing the other will be there. Some get into that player’s conference just to play against them more hoping to hinder productivity. I for one dislike Kazimir Oles. It seems like the guy is ageless. He is great in every aspect of his game. He is someone to look up too. The reason I dont like him is that no matter how hard I try, I dont think I will ever be as good as he is. The way he catches and jukes just cannot be replicated. He is a monster of a player. I am supposed to be in the height of my career and I just cant even think to be on his level. I think there is a level of player that gets into the hall of fame based on their accomplishments. This guy will get in on skill alone. When you think of the best wide receivers I think Kazimir should be in consideration. Maybe someday i’ll figure out the juice he is drinking that gives him that extra little something, but in the meantime, I’ll continue to drink my leaf cola.

Rivalries: Write about another team and why they are overrated and why you want them to lose.

There are many teams that are overrated and get hype that they dont deserve. The Chicago Butchers come to mind. They overpaid to get a bunch of talent right away. When this came to light their GM asked for cap increases constantly under they were able to get it from the head office. Now there will be a $5 million cap increase for each team to make their moves. Chicago is one of the expansion teams making its debut this last season and they did a very good job. But their talent doesnt match their record. I think we will see a regression this next season. Whoever the quarterback is there has always been in the shadows of Havran and Bigsby. She will likely be there for the foreseeable future. Torenson is a great player but saw even more than he thought of the carries in Chicago. That trend likely wont continue either. The Chicago defense was not good this year. This is likely the last time for a few seasons at least that we will see them at the top of the standings. They will get better in the future but I believe they went for the championship their first year and lost the bet. Only time will tell.

15) Going to Disneyland!

Well yeah, how to start this off, has there been an easier award to give out this season? Sometimes you might have two or even three people competing for the Ultimus MVP and each have their own rightful claim to that throne, but not here this year. With his 8 reception, 120 yard and 3 touchdown performance, Jeffrey Murphy unanimously took home the Ultimus MVP award.

With his team singing We Are The Champions and carrying Murphy on their shoulders, it was the start of an amazing 48 hours for the newly crowned MVP. After partying and having way too much drink with his teammates at their championship party, the superstar and a suspiciously looking entourage was whisked away by plane to the nearest Disneyland. Deciding the hangover had taken the best of them, Murphy and his crew decided to not take the wildest rides and instead focused on the assortment of crazy characters which Disneyland has to offer. Taking selfies with Mickey while stealing his ears and having Donald chase them around half of Disneyland because they accidentally squeezed a tube of chili sauce into the suit sounds like an interesting way to spend a day in Disneyland. After all the running they ended up taking a nap with Pluto which was quoted later as being the true highlight. After all this fun, Murphy decided to take it up a notch and the last we heard of him was screaming SIX FLAGS BITCHES while running towards the runway

14) That Magic Moment

After looking like having a comfortable lead in the first half and looking destined for the Ultimus, it quickly looked to be going wrong in all of the possible ways for the Arizona Outlaws, as the Liberty started to claw back the lead. This eventually capitulated in star QB Andrew "Give me that peanutbutter" Reese throwing a god awful interception straight into the hands of D'Attoria that even Eli Manning couldn't have replicated, which was duly returned for a touchdown to put the Liberty ahead with 8 minutes left in the championship game.

That would be end of the story if we lived in the predictable world of the NFL but thankfully we are the NSFL! Getting up from the ground and shaking off some grass, Reese thought to himself “F*** this, it aint going to end like this”. Receiving the kick-off, Reese and the Outlaws started eating up the clock and entering Liberty territory and left the last bit of magic to Reese himself. With 1:55 left in the game, Reese took the snap from his center, looked to his first read which wasn’t there and neither was his second but then out of the corner of his eyes he saw his favorite target of all Jeffrey Murphy in the corner of the endzone. With the defences pressure nearly getting to him, he heaved the ball towards Murphy who was able to snag it and pull his feet down for the game winning touchdown, and the crowd erupted from their seats. Ladies and gentlemen, that is true sports happening right there

1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews:

The Ultimini, the prize every DSFL player and GM is after, was a hard-fought affair between the Luchadores and Pythons. In the end this was a clash of two different styles and as it has been for a while down in the DSFL, running the ball down your opponent’s throats wins when it matters.

Luchadores QB McCann was able to earn a QB rating of 105 and throw for two touchdowns while not even having as many attempts as opposing number F. Armstrong had completions! Armstrong did not have the best day under center throwing two picks, getting sacked twice and having a QB rating of only 58. He wasn’t the only reason that the Pythons ended up losing the Ultimini with their punter only averaging 32 yards on his punts, it really didn’t put the Pythons in a place to succeed and also, taking 4 times the amount of penalties as your opponents can never be a good recipe for success.

Moving away from the negatives, there was a clear MVP for this game and that was Luchadores RB Ducky Donut who was able to rack up 124 yards on 21 carries and put two scores on the board for his team. They could rely on him all throughout the game, driving them down the field, completing key third downs and running down the clock when they were two scores ahead. On the Pythons side, receivers Mongo and Donut were really trying to give them the win by gathering 102 and 83 yards receiving respectively but sadly it was not enough for the win.

3) All about the QBs

Oh man, whenever you feel like you are enjoying people pound it up the middle and think that the era of gunslingers is dead and buried, a game like this pops up. This is one of those games where the beauty of quarterback play and them battling it against each other was on show.

Rookie Rose Jenkins put on one hell of a show, especially in the fourth quarter but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to beat Adriana Falconi and the Philly Liberty. When you have your rookie QB put up 34 points you cannot put all the blame on her, but at the same time when you throw 3 interceptions you have to be able to take some of the blame. With the Liberty taking the lead in the second half, it was left to Jenkins to play catch up the best way she can which was to sling the ball downfield and, well, sometimes that can get you in trouble but I don’t think Lennox Garnett will be unhappy about it as he was the one who picked Jenkins off each time.

Falconi started the game off pretty poorly by getting sacked and throwing an interception on her first attempt which was immediately returned for a touchdown. That could have been the disaster start where everything after it goes wrong, but instead she composed herself and led her team down for a touchdown to even the game out. Throughout the game she made it count and although only threw for 2 touchdowns, she amassed 332 yards and made sure her name was on everybodys lips as the final whistle blew

7) Next year
Written: If your team has been eliminated, why will the next year, or the year after that, be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus or Ultimini.
The San Jose Sabrecats had a rough year. We were hoping to make the playoffs and go on another deep run like in years past, but with the departures we experience this offseason we had a bit of a rough time putting a truly competitive squad on the field this season. This coming season is going to be the last one for Chad Pennington, Thad Pennington and Footballer Sackerman. Thankfully our GMs have been preparing for this and have drafted some great young players that will be coming up to make us a better team for the defensive group's final season. Now we have some young wide receivers who are ready to kick ass this next season and with our experienced defense giving our offense great field position I believe whole heartedly that San Jose is going to run away with the Ultimus next season. Not to mention our QB Joliet Christ is still one of the best in the entire league. A great quarterback combined with great coaching can carry any team to victory. We're all going to be working extra hard this season because we know this could be our final season this core ever has a real shot at the Ultimus. It's now or never boys, let's get it!

(S16) - Ultimus Week - soryantyler - 08-08-2019

6) Our Time
It was Chicago's time to shine and we shouldn't have been able to be stopped. We were the best team at home in the regular season and we secured home-field advantage during the entire playoff run and we even had Philly as our first opponent who we beat in the regular season too so this was supposed to be our year and run straight through these playoffs to win the Ultimus but sadly somehow we got murdered at home versus Philadelphia and that's honestly crazy we should have won and now we had an early exit but we will be even hungrier next year. Chicago is a young team and will improve heavily this offseason to make the jump and we will win the Ultimus next year no doubt in my mind. Time to get paid baby. Our defense is where it's at and we have a stellar run game and a developing quarterback who should all make an even bigger jump next year, I'm excited to see what this team can do after our early exit we will be throbbing at the neck to get at these Philly boys and get our revenge. Mark my words Chicago will be coming back baby and it's not a joke!

7) Next year
Like I said above we should have run away in the playoffs and won it all this year as we had a stellar home field advantage and just choked it away after being the best home-field team in the NSFL. We will progress this offseason as a team and grow together and come back better than ever because we are still a super young team and some of us will be hitting our primes at the right time. I have no doubt in my mind that Chicago will be back in the playoffs next year and get even further next year and actually win too! We have a strong defensive unit that can't be messed with and our offense is really young and will get even better. Hopefully, our quarterback steps it up because they are truly the reason we lost and we need him/her to play better than what they did. Our defense can't bail you out the entire season and get gassed in the playoffs and you not show up. BUT I have complete confidence that they will step up and become a better game managing quarterback for us next season and we will come and win the Ultimus for the next several years!

10) Rivalries

My biggest rival team is now the Arizona Outlaws, after being traded away from them and going to Chicago I felt happy and we were winning games and then we took an early exit from the playoffs which came as a huge surprise and then Arizona went and won the Ultimus without me. It kinda felt shitty to be one hundred percent honest. I loved that team to and I had to be traded away from certain cancer and it cost me my first ever sim league championship trophy... Maybe I shouldn't have let my emotions get to me and ask to be traded so quickly but I truly did not like a guy at that time at all and wanted to connections with him at all. I'm happy for Arizona by the duo and freind @lonecricket Leighton Lee was one of my closest friends there and I feel awful for leaving him but I know the dude is a monster and will be a beast for a long time, I'm hoping to be able to compete against him stat-wise for a long time! Lee vs Stokeley will be my goal for my career and I'm already losing so I got some ground to catch up on and I will!

(S16) - Ultimus Week - terriblehippo - 08-08-2019

1) PLAYOFF REVIEW: Give a short write up of one playoff match.
Code:
238 words
“Anything can happen in the playoffs.” That statement has never been more true than this season, which saw the dark horse Arizona Outlaws defeat the Philadelphia Liberty in a game for the history books. Arizona, which hadn’t even made the playoffs since Season 7, made a surprising run at the Ultimus this season, and managed to walk away with a hard-fought victory. The game seemed to be safely in Arizona’s hands through most of the game; at one point, the Outlaws led by fourteen points. But Philadelphia know what playoff football is about, and managed to claw their way back into the game. A forty-two yard pick six by Richard D’Attoria V midway through the fourth put the Liberty up by three and stole all the wind out of Arizona’s sails. But Arizona took the ensuing kickoff and marched down the field. They leaned heavily on Seer Zephyrous, Slim Shady, and the arm of Andrew Reese on this clock-eating drive, and were rewarded with a touchdown with only ninety seconds left to play. Philadelphia tried, but there simply wasn’t enough time left to make anything happen, and Arizona was triumphant. Make no mistake: Arizona, despite being a sleeper pick to win the title, has a very talented roster, and that roster was on full display during these playoffs. Now they can rest easy, having won their first championship since Season 3, and let their success speak for itself.

4) HEAD TO HEAD MATCHUPS: Write about two offensive and defensive players who have faced off in the playoffs.
Code:
217 words
This season’s Ultimus saw two young players go head to head on football’s biggest stage, but only one emerged victorious. Safety Martavius Mack of Arizona (@Allplanet) and wide receiver Nacho Varga of Philadelphia (@Fordhammer)were both part of the initial r/nfl recruitment drive, whose players are now entering their primes. Mack and Varga both performed admirably in the Ultimus: Varga caught 4 passes for 59 yards, while Mack recorded 5 tackles and even managed to sack Liberty quarterback Adriana Falconi. These numbers might appear poor, but one has to remember that these players are only in their sophomore seasons in the NSFL, and that there’s still plenty of room for improvement for both players. Granted, Varga has much more TPE to his name than Mack (561 TPE to Mack’s 223). But in a league where some of the best players have 900 or even 1000 TPE, this Ultimus was a great showing for both players. Again, this group of players (namely, the first r/nfl draft class) is only now starting to enter their primes, so the stats themselves aren’t important. What is important is what their presence in the Ultimus signifies: that the Season 15 rookies are growing up quickly, and it won’t be long before the landscape of the league changes drastically to reflect that reality.

5) SPOTLIGHT ON YOUTH: The first r/nfl wave made our biggest class ever. Now that class is hitting its prime. Write on one of the players in this year's Ultimus Week that are Season 15 and spotlight how they did affect this year's Ultimus.
Code:
227 words
Brock Landers (@gucci), the first overall pick in the Season 15 NSFL draft, has been a force for Arizona, and is a big part of the reason they were even playing for an Ultimus in the first place. He caught 64 passes, picked up 1004 receiving yards, and scored 6 touchdowns for the Outlaws. Coming into the playoffs, Landers was expected to be a big part of Arizona’s gameplan. But the stats weren’t there: in three playoff games, Landers caught only 11 passes for 211 yards, and he didn’t score a single touchdown. His biggest play was a 52 yard catch in the ASFC Championship game against Orange County, which set up an early fourth quarter touchdown for Arizona. But Outlaw faithful shouldn’t be concerned. Landers is still a young player, and has yet to reach his full potential. While the boxscore might paint Landers in a bad light, simply looking at the numbers fails to capture his full impact on the game. Landers’ intangibles are fantastic, and by helping bring a ring to Arizona for the first time in over ten seasons, he’s proven that he was worth being drafted first. Now, with that experience under his belt, he can continue to improve, and I have no doubt that he will quickly become one of the most feared offensive weapons in the league for seasons to come.

7) NEXT YEAR: If your team has been eliminated, why will the next year or the year after that be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus.
Code:
243 words
Why will New Orleans win an Ultimus in the next few years? Two words: young blood. Season 15 was rough for New Orleans, having gone 2-12 and missing the playoffs. But Season 16 saw some crucial additions to the team. Forrest Gump and Johnny Slothface were both called up from the DSFL, and the rookies made an immediate impact on the field. The Season 16 draft was sparse for New Orleans, but that didn’t matter: the Second Line improved to a 6-7 record, beating strong teams like eventual champions Arizona and surprise powerhouse Chicago. New Orleans’ talented young core has proven that they can win, and adding some more young talent to that roster will only help put them over the top. They have the #3 overall pick in the Season 17 draft, but the Season 18 draft is where things get interesting. The latest r/nfl rookie class--now at least ninety players strong--will be entering the NSFL in Season 18, and New Orleans is positioned to capitalize on that influx of talent. They have two picks in the first and third rounds each, which means they’ll have their pick of the pool. So, to sum it up: a strong young core that has already proven itself, good positioning in the upcoming draft, and a treasure trove of picks in a stacked draft. When you look at it like that, it’s obvious that New Orleans will be a contender for a long time.

http://probaseballexperience.jcink.net/ind...indpost&p=96639
"Pitching is pretty key to winning... And well, the PBE batters are pretty good. The pitchers need any advantage they can get. So of course, the PBE teams have really started investing in the sabermetrics departments. Spin rate has been used successfully by the Astros to identify diamonds in the rough. But well, spin rate can be improved with "practice." So, I think the Aviators should invest in some top of the line pine tar. A little pine tar on the ball in the right place will have batters shifting like never before. Of course, some folks say that using pine tar is cheating. But, I maintain that it's just taking a competitive advantage. Look, the batters use pine tar on the bats, pitchers should be able to pine tar the balls. But since some people disagree, we need to come up with clever methods to mask the pine tar usage. Where do you keep the tar? On the shoe is one way that Lance McCullers appeared to be using. You could also use the brim of your hat. Whichever method you decide to use, be discreet. If the ump thinks your using too much pine tar, he might take it from you."

Spotlight on the QBs

Franklin Armstrong joined the Pythons on waivers prior to S14. The young QB had a swagger about him that caught a GMs eye. But then, the prospect bowl happened. Armstrong didn't perform as he was expected to, and well, a few more QBs came onto the scene and took the spotlight. Ryan Leaf Jr., Jay Longshaw, and that random guy who got drafted to the Solar Bears, all of these were more exciting or something. Somehow, come the DSFL draft night, Armstrong kept falling... And falling. He ended up being selected like in round 11. Only when Portland's incumbent QB was called up to try safety was Armstong even given a Job.

His first season, Armstrong electrified the DSFL winning every award he was eligible for, including the Ultimini. He was drafted in the 30s by the Otters. His next DSFL season wasn't quite as dominant as the previous years, and neither was the one after that. Perhaps Armstrong wasn't as great as previously thought? Then you notice he started in 3 consecutive Ultimini's, and well. Maybe he actually is. In reality, Armstrong will go down as the greatest QB in Portland history and as one of the greatest in DSFL history.

Rivalries

The Tijuana Luchadores and Portland Pythons rivalry has made it all the way to the Ultiminu 2 of the last 3 seasons. Last season, it was especially fierce. Both teams beat the other at home in the regular season matchup. The past few seasons have seen a matchup between 2 elite QBs in Havran, and Armstrong. The success of these 2 QBs made the matchups much more interesting. On the defensive side of the ball, Lander Grievous, and Johnny Slothface engaged in a fierce LBoty race this past season. The RB battle has heavily favored Tijuana with Gump tearing things up. But Portland's RB committee has done some work of its own. Overall it's been a competitive rivalry... Tijuana and Portland split their 2 Ultimini appearances as well.

Of course, some might think the Coyotes are the real rivals. The playoff games between the 2 teams were always quite close. It was a pretty exciting time in the 1st round. Unfortunately, the new gen Coyotes have a thing for getting curbstomped in the postseason by Portland. It kinda ruins the rivalry when one team is so dominant. But hey KCC does their very best. Their very best just isn't anywhere good enough.

Our Year-Next Year
What's going on in Colorado? The seemingly cursed Yeti are in a weird spot right now. After kinda selling out to make the S13? Ultimus, Colorado is in a heavy rebuild.... But, we have some strong active users. We just don't have any good inactive to fill out the roster. We have no DLine people... At all. An all NSFL talent in Berry can't do much behind no line.

How have we improved? Well, we have a good group of steadily active guys. McDummy is going to be much better. Taffy is already good, he's about to become great. James Bishop is all world. Lazlo 42 is going to be an outstanding #2 guy. Joshua Palmer is solid at TE. I know we drafted Woelkers too (this is after draft mind you. No leaks.) He is actually a defensive lineman... Oh my. Our linebacker core is young and strong. Our secondary has some good pieces (and some Lejune character.)

Basically, we just need a good FA or 2 to compete for a playoff spot. In time, the silly Yeti will be contending again. We'll just keep drafting, and earning. Things are going to be great. But then again... Maybe not. Idk
