We drafted 3 active QB's for this reason. And now, while we're seeing exactly what we expected to happen(and his value increasing), our value is going out the window because we can't protect him. If we could freely protect a # of players, not per position, we'd be able to protect Berc and get value for him. Instead, we're being forced to give him up for free. Which is unfortunate to say the least lol.
Let's say Jiggly got an expansion team for example. You would lose Jiggly and Berc. You would keep everyone else because you let berc go. I don't think that's not getting any value for him.
Regardless, the Expansion draft details are still being discussed as you are aware of and part of.

Hopefully that's not the case...rookie draft and expansion should be totally separate. Expansion will force teams to protect and expose certain guys. That'd be too much of an advantage as current teams wouldnt lose the talent really if they were allowed to pick from rookies/fa's and then pick from the teams.
I trust the best decisions will be made there are guys with experience theyll brainstorm and figure it out

S2 players will not be eligible to be acquired by anything except the rookie draft.

Play out their current contract, of course holding out is possible I suppose.
Players with a no-movement clause will have to be protected, unless they agree to waive their no-movement clause.
