Why Butter's Punishment is a failure on HO's part - Duilio05 - 09-18-2019

transparency would be a little hard in that case. I do try and give some reasoning behind decisions, but its also kind of hard because HO can be divided. We generally agree on stuff, but not every decision is 5-0. So it would be hard for us to give our way of thinking as a whole unanimous HO because not all of us have the same line of thinking. Heck, i forget what it was, but a while back we had a decision that was a 5-0 decision but there were 3 different reasons for it. Or just some stuff i guess we just dont have a deep reason for it? like with this last punishment our reasoning was just that he leaked an IP, not much more deep than that.

For approachability, i definitely think its something we need, I just didn't know it was an issue. I try to be active in the community, mess aorund, sometimes even join a voice chat in rookie discord. I will try to be more active in the general public, can just be hard sometimes with all the chats i have to jump around into

@`woelker11`, sorry if I miss understand what you are attempting to convey with regards to transparency and approachability.

I don't think we need to know exactly how every HO member voted. Keeping a united public front despite however many arguments HO members have on a decision is important. That said I think transparency comes with citing from were in the rulebook a user violated a rule. In this case, we'd say "He violated Rule D.8", and additionally link to the precedent set by the past ruling. having those two things in the first post instead of users and other HO members having to post them as replies is an easy step.

As for approachability, despite everyone came into this thread with hotheads, I think this kind of discussion with HO is a good way to breed approachability. That we are having an interaction with an HO member about League issues is not something that usually occurs on discord where most of us are active and interact. I think our newest users get a better idea of what HO is and WHO HO is from our dialogue together.

Unless a user has a job that requires them to interact with someone from HO, interacting with people in general chat is not the same. in general everyone is themselves. sure we have roles like HO, Banker, GM, rookie; and those association give context to some of what we discuss, but I don't think many HO members or GMs go into general with the intention of acting as GM or HO. that is an area where we get to put up our feet and relax and be ourselves more or less.

Actually setting up an intentional opportunity for users to chat with HO members about the current state of the league, what HO does, and who they are is the kind of approachability i think woelkers is talking about.

Also Dwyer, sorry if this sent you like 10 alerts. I kept editing and adding more after i initially posted.

is it better for approachability? I feel like its worse, idk

im not sure i understand the thing about general discord. Like, I dont have a different persona in HO chat and general chat, I'm the same guy, maybe i just clean up my thoughts a bit for when I have to be official. I suppose i am just a bit confused about what a different space would be? I'm the commish no matter what chat i'm in

and no worried, i only got 1 alert

In case anyone misses it, at Daybe's suggestion, I found a half solution to this problem moving forward

turn off IP address display ... so then if an IP is ever leaked again, there can be no doubt it was deliberate, since someone would have to deliberately go and find it.

as you were.

are you even a participant in this league at this point?

Posting IP addresses is an obvious no-no so punishment deserved.

If I could get into HO anyone can get into HO.

Also being HO is tough, lotta issues that you gotta deal with that a lot of people think you're wrong on. There really wasn't anything different about how we were like in HO chat and GM chat than general discord. We joked around just as much, just had to be more serious with official matters.

Yeah, the HO guys are basically the same in general ad they are in more private discords. If anything they're probably a bit toned down in general, and more themselves in private.
