As the owner of the Chicago Butchers, I have the final say on the team's canon. And I say that Chicago plays in Soldier Field. That's the obvious bit. What's not as obvious is that it doesn't look like a normal football game. Instead of a sit-down crowd, things are a bit different in Chicago. Pyro, TIFO, drums, horns, full-game chanting. All of this and more in the north and south endzones. Yes, it's essentially like a soccer game in South America, with the random acts of violence included! Honestly, that's the most fun part.

There's a different feeling to a game compared to intermittent applause or cheers and looking up to see that it looks like the upper deck is on fire. This is a discussion I get into a lot with people who don't watch soccer. Sure, there's certain teams that do make a big sound, but compare it to walking out into La Bombonera where there are fans climbing up on the fence that they put between the supporters and the pitch. And La Bombonera is only 49,000 capacity. Now upscale that to 61,500. There's just no comparing the two experiences. Sure, you can call it "dangerous" or a "nuisance", but when you're standing in a full voice section after popping a couple of flares, nothing else comes close anymore.

Despite being one of the worst teams in the league standings wise, the Chicago Butchers are looking to improve the experience for all fans that walk into The Chopping Block, one of the leagues most finest stadiums. One of the biggest rules in the stadium is that you may NEVER PUT KETCHUP ON YOUR HOT DOGS, it is an insult in the city of Chicago, and you’ll be subjected to violence, most likely by the assault of Leaf’s fists. The experience is centered around the hardcore fan, from extreme food dishes like Ghost Pepper Burgers, to even The Poisonous Rose, made out of rose velvet and purified cobra venom, to the Torch of Valor, ignited before each and every home game. That’s only the first part, every seat is a recliner just to give you the man cave experience, even with built in phone charger and score alerts throughout the leagues games, and yes, the dreaded troll signs including "VISITORS WANT QUIET, PLEASE RESPOND ACCORDINGLY" and GET UP EVERYONE DOWN IS A LOLCOW. It’s truly the leagues best experience and the leagues best fans, loyal to their franchise and their city, the league made the right choice to bring the gridiron back to the Windy City.

Chicago is a newer team. Not a lot of traditions to speak of yet. Luckily, there are other sports teams in Chicago that the Butchers can leech from for the time being. Of course tail gating is a huge part of any football franchise and football stadium life. Something quite common these days, as the temperature continues to drop is the deep fryers are becoming more and more common. The poor, health care paying, people of Chicago continue to deep fry everything a the temperature drops. You know normal bologna sandwiches? Well the football fans in Chicago started deep frying the bologna, and then they thought to get rid of the middle man. Now we have the whole sandwich deep fried. Some think it's genius, I do not agree. The other thing they've tried is to deep fry coffee, hot chocolate, and even the marshmallows for the hot chocolate. It seems the people of Chicago only have one train of thought because the next thing they tried was deep fried S'mores. Well I can't comment on their intelligence, but man, deep fried S'mores are pretty wild. But at least we aren't in Philly. Their tradition for their stadium is to have bad fans and an even worse team. 209

Well, Blackstone has yet to play a game for one of the newest teams in the league: the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. The Buccaneers recently claimed him off of waivers not long after he announced his intention to enter the DSFL. Because of this, Blackstone hasn't been able to experience the atmosphere of a professional football game as a player. So, instead he caught up with his older cousin, Verso L'Alto.

L'Alto, just this week, announced that he will be retired at the end of this season. This was a much anticipated decision which many people thought would have come a season or two before as L'Alto started to slow down and lose some of his starting reps to the next generation of Tight Ends in the NSFL. Nevertheless, L'Alto decided to stick it out saying that he wanted to play as long as he was able. Unfortunately, he announced to fans that he had hit his limit. Because of this, in the Baltimore Hawks' most recent home game, when L'Alto's name was announced as he first took the field, L'Alto was just about brought to tears as he saw the entire stadium rise to its feet. As the Aviary saluted him with the double-winged salute, he truly recognized how blessed he was to lead such a gratifying career.

Having an entire football team living on a boat comes with its own unique rituals. I have a special ritual that I like to perform to really get into the Buccaneer mindset. The day before a game, I will take a life raft and let myself drift far out into the middle of the ocean. Normally I will take a long nap, which allows me to relax as well as confuse my sense of direction. I bring no food or water. Upon waking up, I scramble to discern my location and make my way towards land. Often times hours will have passed by and the coast line is just barely visible on the horizon. Using my hands as oars, I begin paddling myself to land. This is physically taxing, resulting in a good work out. I let the adrenaline guide me to my destination, and I ride that sweet, sweet adrenaline high all the way into game day, where I then utilize it. There is just something about letting primal instinct take over that makes you feel so....free. Some may see this ritual as 'weird' or 'idiotic'. I say, 'I live on a boat, so i know what I'm doing.'

Written Option: In the real world, many pro sports teams have unique stadium atmospheres that add to their culture (the Buffalo Bills and tables, for example). Write about some of the unique traditions for your NSFL or DSFL teams that occur on or leading up to game day.

Down here in the beautiful southern town of Myrtle Beach, there are what some would consider strange stadium experiences. There is always many good times though, and there has not been a single complaint from the fans of the Buccaneers. The GM's both set up half-time parties to get the fans more involved with the game. Some of those fun games are, "Pin the Tail on the Luchadore", "Duck, duck, grey ducks gonna lose" and one of the more famous games at Palm Beach stadium is the Snakeshoe game. Even former kicker Baxter Frost has played these mid-game games. Snakeshoe is just like horseshoe, except the horseshoes are in the shape of a curled snake. New acquiree Kacey Dream has been very vocal about it, as he has gone on a talk show just to talk of it! In addition to the halftime games, after the Buccaneers win, All the team stars take a photo with one lucky fan that won a raffle! The cost is only 5 dollars to enter, and seeing Bobby Boucher's smile is definitely worth it! Oh, I almost forgot what we do before the games. The amazing GM's of Myrtle Beach host a party on Mondays and Wednesday's that allows for fans to watch the games of their favorite NSFL teams on the big screen! Sitting in the stadium seats, at 8pm, the lights get dimmed, and all the games get live streamed. Longtime fan Dorfus Jimbo has been seen smiling after the event!

It gets a little wild in Austin. Or admittedly, anywhere the team happens to be. That said, even when the team is on the road, the stadium opens up to fans who pay quarter price for tickets to watch games on the gigantic screens above midfield. In fact one of the best road traditions is that the team sets up football drills all over the field during away games, and fans can come down and try all kinds of real NSFL drills that players use and compare their numbers to their favorite Copperheads. Sobriety checks are of course required for certain drills. There's also a season by season competition where fans get to put their numbers up against other fans. The winner of each drill at the end of the regular season gets an authentic team jersey with their name and chosen number, photos with some of the players, and most importantly, priority seating for any home playoff games.

Post game, fans will often head down to the nearby Butler Park area for live concerts, as its become a semi-tradition quickly to have a few live bands and more food available. Or next door to the Pitch and Putt. Or the various bars nearby. And of course, all of the regular drinking, BBQ, and other shenanigans that go on before, during, and after each game. Players and even team management have been known to appear and take part in all the revelry. Notably GM Charlie law put on a big fake mustache and did the receiver drills last season (and his numbers were of course "mysteriously removed" from contention). Being a part of the Austin Copperheads fmaily is simply put, the single greatest decision you can make in the NSFL universe.
