(S22) - PT1 - Runnin’ Down a Dream - Jaspers - 04-27-2020 Okura achieved a lot last year. Be it being in the pro-bowl, or being the ASCFCF flex defensive player pro-bowl nominee, or even top 5 in DPOY voting on the year, it was a great season. The question now becomes whether he can continue his excellent production, and get recognized for his play. For years Okura has silently been a freak of nature on the defensive side of the ball in Austin, no other Safety is as well rounded as he. Getting sacks, tackles, interceptions, even forced fumbles, the production you get from a position so far away from the ball is outstanding. If he can continue his clutch playoff performances, and even reproduce half of his play from last year, then we're looking at a potential HOF player. An article recently said Austin had, "4 Middling Safeties". That's the kind of lack of media attention Okura gets on a regular basis. When's the last time you saw a DPOY candidate be described as a "middling player"? It's because the NSFL media is intentionally ignoring Takeda Okura. It's against their narrative, that someone other than their hero Lavelle can be a good player in Austin's secondary. If Okura is to change it, another season at high level play will be needed. (S22) - PT1 - Runnin’ Down a Dream - RansackTheUniverse - 04-27-2020 Eldrick Avery was drafted by the Baltimore Hawks with the 27th overall pick of the S22 NSFL Draft. Avery and the Hawks are entering the season with high aspirations. As it is Avery’s rookie season, he will be looking to set career highs across the board. Avery will look to help the Hawks’ secondary right away and he will have a chance to finish the season among the rookie leaders in interceptions and passes defensed. If everything goes well, it is possible that Avery will find himself in discussions for a pro bowl spot at the end of the season. However, it is more likely that honours such as these will have to wait until his second season and beyond. The Hawks finished last season atop the NSFC regular season standings. However, they were hit hard by the expansion draft, regression, and the loss of star quarterback Corvo Havran. With the Yellowknife Wraiths and Colorado Yeti both looking like formidable squads this season, the Hawks will have their work cut out for them just making the playoffs. With that said, making the playoffs is a very reasonable and attainable goal this season for the Hawks. And as we saw last season, with both conference winners going one and done in the playoffs, anything can happen at the dance once you’re there. (S22) - PT1 - Runnin’ Down a Dream - gbfn - 04-27-2020 This season will be the real start of the professional career for Heinrich Kackpoo. He enters his first full season in the DSFL with the Portland Pythons. He is determined to show his value to his team and to the rest of the league. First an formost the success of the team stands above everything, personal stats are nice and good, but if you can't compete they are pretty much useless. The goal for this year has to be the playoffs as Portland was last season, only to be kicked out of the race for the crown in the DSFL in a heartbreaking loss against KC. Heinrich Kackpoo is perfectly prepared for the season. He is in great shape to play a deciding role in the defense. This season is the year where Heinrich Kackpoo has to show, that he is ready to compete against talented opponents an to maybe put himself in a good position to be drafted to the NSFL. Although winning individual awards is not what he strives for, it would be a great accomplishment to maybe make a run for DPOY. Despite the fact, that he only has a small chance to reach that goal, this would be the ultimate honor for Heinrich Kackpoo. This and a hopefully successful season for the Portland Pythons as well as for himself. I had a semi-solid if uninspiring start to my DSFL career, grabbing nominations for offensive rookie of the years (and one more award I can't remember) even though I put up pedestrian numbers sharing the QB position in Tijuana. I only can get better this second season now that my DSFL build is completely capped. I'm hoping to just approve in my stats across the board. I didn't throw many touchdowns my first season, so I think it should be easy to improve there. I also hope to throw more touchdowns than interceptions for sure, so that is another added wrinkle there. I should improve my total yards this season since my build is better, but hopefully I'm more efficient with a higher completion percentage along with a higher yards per attempt mark than I put up last season. I think efficiency will be key since I'm still stuck in a two QB system. This basically means it is impossible for me to break any sort of record (and I probably won't get close to even winning an award, yay for splitting time) so I'm not going to be worried about that even though I think I have a really solid DSFL build. As a team, I think we are going to be much stronger and I expect us to actually make the playoffs this season and have a great chance to win a championship. Hopefully I can be a big part of that as one of the quarterbacks. Although Muhammad was drafted to the Chicago Butchers, he and Butchers management decided it would be best for him to return to the DSFL with the Dallas Birddogs for at least one more season. For Muhammad, this is about redemption and exceeding expectations. Coming off a mediocre season with the Birddogs coming in last in the conference, there were doubts whether Muhammad would even be drafted to the NSFL at all. However, Chicago took a chance with Muhammad, along with fellow Birddog alumni Benson Bayley Jr and Hamish MacAndrew. Muhammad is seeking to improve and become the best safety in the DSFL, with his focus on setting interception records and to be regarded as a feared pass coverage defender. With a return to his original position at SS, he is geared to make a statement comeback. Not only is this a redemption story for himself, but also the Birddogs as he believes their previous record does not indicate the powerhouse that they actually can be. 2037 is the year for Muhammad and the Birddogs, where he ultimately hope his growth can translate into what he cares about most: wins. WC: 203 (S22) - PT1 - Runnin’ Down a Dream - Lightnoir - 04-27-2020 It's hard to set lofty goals when you're a rookie safety, starting alongside another rookie safety. Most of our secondary are rookies, so we still have a long road before us to awards or pro bowls. But that doesn't mean we can't try. My goal this season is just to help my team make the playoffs. The Liberty only went 3-10 last season, which isn't inspiring, but we have far more potential than that and play in a conference that looks pretty open in preseason. The hope is that if we can make the playoffs we can push from there, and if we don't go any further, I think making the playoffs would be a real statement of intent from this very young philly team. I'm also hoping I can get to max speed or near it this season so that I can start diversifying my build and work on things like my intelligence and endurance. The youth on our defense also means we're going to be advancing quickly all season. Brandon Booker, Matt Cross, and I are going to become an all-star secondary, so even if we can't win an ultimus this season, we're going to keep our heads up and get there sooner or later. [207 words] (S22) - PT1 - Runnin’ Down a Dream - Bruins10 - 04-27-2020 Claude Miller unfortunately did not start his career in the DSFL and the NSFL with a great start. He had to fire his agent because of the bad timing he had to register and grow within the league. On the last day of trade deadline, Claude Miller signed up as a S22 and could have been a S23 if he would have waited a couple of hours. This little mistake made him become one of the weakest members of his draft rather than starting right at the beginning of the next draft class. I do not think Claude Miller has a bunch of enemies or people who are looking and hoping that he does not pan out. To the contrary, there are probably people hoping that he does become a steal of the draft for the Outlaws. This is what he had to say "I want to make a name for myself. Everyone thinks to themselves that they will go pro and go become a champion right away or win a bunch of rewards but you gotta be realisitic. everyone works their tails off to keep themselves around and make a living. If I can be a top 5 Defensive Tackle in Tackles or Tackles for Loss or maybe even sacks somehow, that would make me a very happy camper in my rookie season. And then as I grow, I can maybe become a Defensive Player of the year and even an Ultimus champion. But into my rookie season I have 2 things on my mind. 1) Th first one being to be at the top of some category for Defensive Tackle. I have great amount of competition. Veterans who have been here for a while and have stapled themselves as legends of this league 2) Do not get sent down to the DSFL. Not because I do not like the London ROyals, infact, I love that room and thing that the bunch can compete this season for the championship. But I was called up to make a difference for the Outlaws. I will be a piece that takes them out of the rebuild and makes them compete in a couple of years. If I will be productive in a couple of seasons from now, I have to be put to the test in the rookie season. So, let me see if I have what it takes to stay with the big boys." A very humble Claude Miller has his eyes set on some reachable prizes. And I think with his mentality, he will be able to get them "Oh wait, I forgot to mention. I have a bonus in my contract aswell. I gotta pay the bills here in Arizona. Scottsdale homes arent really the cheapest know what I mean. GOtta get to the 300 TPE mark in order to get some moola in my bank account. Take care of my chickens if you know what I mean." So there you have it. Claude worried about his season stats, his name as an NSFL pro athlete and I guess his money and his farm? I dont know what all those chickens hes gotta take care of. He felt that he had a great bond with the coaching staff, the scouts, and the managers when they met with him before the draft. The thing that made Dre Matthews really want to be a Seawolf, is that the year before they been to the playoffs. This really intrigued the wide receiver coming out of Florida because he will want to do anything he can to be a winner. The newly drafted receiver has been working harder than ever this off season. He knows that switch from to college to pro will be a tough one, but he is ready for it. Dre Matthews' goals for this upcoming DSFL season is pretty simple. He wants to win. Matthews wants to help in a way to help his team to make the playoffs again and go even further then they did before. Dre has said in many countless interviews, and to the press that his eyes are not set on any awards, his mentality is to win win win. He says that getting awards is nice and all but his team comes first, and nothing is going to change that. Dre believes there is a great amount of talent that can help Norfolk win playoff games and even better, a championship. Word Count: 222 |
